Cat puke be gone!
If I could solve the mystery of why cats insist on puking on area rugs when there are perfectly good floors literally INCHES away, I think I would never question anything ever again. Alas, I don't have any answer for this eternal conundrum except the universe demanded we buy a darn rug shampooer. Every day (and I do mean EVERY day), our cat decides it's time to upchuck everything she just ate, and she eats three times a day. There's not a blessed thing wrong with her except she's a glutton and eats too fast. We only have area rugs, so we just wanted something we could easily pull out once a month to give them a good going over (we use spot cleaner for these daily messes). I mean, I knew the rugs were probably not immaculate (she's been puking on them for almost three years--that's how long we've lived in this house, and all of these area rugs are new), but HOLY MOLY, ew! Between the cat and whatever the heck was in the rugs from wherever they came from (I now shudder to think--does anyone EVER think about where rugs come from?? I didn't!), we were totally freaked out by the dirt in the receptacle after the first use. And, we are a shoe-free home. NO ONE wears outdoor shoes in this house. One cat, two humans, no shoes, brand new home--I mean, how dirty could it be? Turns out...pretty gross. So yeah, your floors are disgusting, and you don't know it.This worked pretty great. You do have to empty the solution pretty often. I think if we had wall-to-wall I'd be frustrated, but for three 8x10 area rugs, it's just fine. It fits in a corner of a closet, and we got the free and clear cleaner--worked really well without the fumes. Carpets weren't sopping wet and these are expensive, handmade wool rugs. They look brighter, smell fresher, and clearly, they needed shampooing. I'm sure yours do too--you just don't know it. Great value for the price. Comes with a gadget to help clean out any yucky stuff that might get gunked up in the beater bar, too.

Much better than I expected, but with a few quirks
First off, I LOVE this machine. I did about 500sq ft the first day it was delivered. While I love his pristine and clean it got my carpets, it does have a few quirks. This is the ideal carpet cleaning machine for apartment-dwellers with pets and carpets. Even if you use a “spot eliminator” device like I do, you know eventually you need to clean larger areas of carpet a spot device just can’t handle — or you want to clean the entire carpet in your space. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to assemble the machine once you get the parts out of the box. One caveat: the cap on the solution/water bottle. Push the inside of the cap out BEFORE you position the bottle (upside-down) in the machine — otherwise it will leak. I learned this after doing the wrong thing on the first fill. This quirk should be addressed on the quick set-up card for impulsive people such as myself. The second thing I immediately noticed was how loud this machine is. It’s louder than most vacuums. I would definitely recommend not using it in the morning or evening — unless you want your neighbors to hate you.Another quirk. The price point means certain “luxury” features are gone. If you hear the noise change, that is telling you either the cleaner/water bottle is empty — or the dirty water tank is full. Fill up the cleaner and dump the dirty tank at the same time. There is no light or other mechanism other than the way the machine sounds to tell you this.Last quirk: the dirty water tank. You press the button from behind the machine and slide it out. The first time I put the handle down and was confused since no other machine I had worked this way. My advice: just take a few minutes to read the instructions.Overall, i’m in love with this machine. If you are on a budget and can forgo luxury features, this machine will be for you. If you like tons of features, you might be disappointed by this particular machine.I love that it’s small and easy to store; if you need to clean more than three large rooms, consider a machine with a wider path. Each room took me about three fills and three times emptying the dirty water tank. If you want a larger capacity machine, look for one with larger tanks and a larger cleaning path. But if you don’t mind a little extra work, this machine is a solid 4.5 stars for me (too bad I can only give 4 on Amazon’s rating — 5 Stars would be too much considering the loudness and quirks).

Great on builder grade carpet.
Advantages.1. If you have builder grade carpet the type that pulls up fluff ever time you brush your hand against it or vacuum. The space between the front nozzle and brush is wide enough that it doesn't get clogged up.2. Easy to assemble and lightweight enough to carry upstairs.3.Easy to fill with solution and empty the dirty water.4. Great for apartment dwellers compact doesn't take up much space.Disadvantages.1. Parts are hard to get for this machine, I tried to order a extra belt for this machine not available on either the hoover site in Canada or the U.S. I had to order from a outside vendor in the U.S2. You have to use a screw driver on the screws in order to pull the front brush out to clean it.3. Although this has heat force to help dry the carpet it's not powerful enough in my opinion.4. Suction is good but to get something more powerful you have to spend more coin.4. No upholstery tools this is for carpets only.Tip; After I clean with carpet cleaner with this machine, I give it thirty minutes then go over the carpet again with plain hot tap water in the solution bottle. This allows your solution to go further

It stands up to what it says! BEST shampoo’r ever!!!
I have in the past ten years went through 4 full size other brand machines. Some, within the first week broke down. Nothing could stand up to my needs it seemed.I work with rescue dogs and I need to keep my carpets clean. My last big huge shampoo’rs did ok, but they never made my 1986 carpet look much better. They looked pretty decent when they were wet still, but once dry, completely different story. So after my last one konked out on me, I didn’t know what to do. What do I get next that’s not going to let me down? I didn’t want to waste my money anymore.I went and did an online search for the best carpet shampoo’r out there. I was surprised to see this little thing being touted as being ‘the one’. After reading and watching testimonies, I figured for the price, it was worth checking out. If it didn’t stand up to my needs, then at least I hadn’t spent five and six hundred dollars like I had before.Well, let me tell you, EVERYTHING that was said about this unit being THAT good, was and is true. I am amazed. My old 1986 carpet, has been rejuvenated! I can’t believe it!!! My teenage daughters room, had make up stuff all over embedded in the carpet, and stains that none of the other machines had gotten out over the years. This thing? Literally pulled up brand new carpet fibers that were embedded way down deep, AND, it made her carpet look like new. She was shocked when she walked in and seen it.I have been using this on a daily basis to clean up puppy pee messes, and it’s so easy to get and bring out and set up. It is a bit of a downer because the water canister and dirty water canister are quite small and you have to empty and refill frequently if you have a bigger space. But; I don’t even care about that, I’ll dump and refill as often as needed to get these kinds of results. If you are in doubt and not sure about whether you should get this? Take it from a crazy dog lady, 😅 it’s worth every dollar, and then some. You’ll see. 🙃

Best $ I've ever spent!!
I have lots of pets and lots of pet messes. This is how much mess got sucked up after 1 pass with the carpet cleaner. I'm totally impressed!!

Only good for Spot use.
Please see 6 month review at bottom of this review.I have to clarify that this device is not good as a normal rug shampooer. It's water tank and vacuum tank are too small to really do much more than maybe 16 square feet at a time..4x4'. It does lay down a fair amount of water which is really a good thing. Too many shampooers dribble water on the ground which wets the carpet but does not put enough down to get lower into the carpet. You end up wetting the carpet and removing almost nothing. This one lays down more water than most so you are getting deeper in the carpet and a better clean. The suction is good as long as you go fairly slowly. No shampooer goes well if you shampoo at the same rate you would normally vacuum for. It takes longer to extract water out of the carpet than dust off the top of the carpet. It is a good shampooer if you are just looking to take up some pet stains or dropped drinks etc. I dry vacuum those spills/pee first and then use water as a second or third pass.I must say the designer of the recovery tank must have been a moron to put the exit plug on the side which also makes it hard to get all of the water out of the tank so there are no smells or small leaks when left sitting there. Why they did not put the exit plug on the back top of the tank I do not know. Maybe for looks or because they were a design moron and not walking the whole process through their heads.Overall though it does a good job, but only over a small area or rug. If you try to shampoo a whole room you will be filling and emptying the tanks 5-10 times to do it right but if you just want to shampoo up a dropped drink or pet mess it is a great light shampooer that does that job well.EDIT**** 6 month review. After using it for 6 months I can conclude that it is a fairly good spot cleaner with one major issue. Since I have had the shampooer I replaced it at about the 2 months mark. Hoover was quick to reply. Now 3 months later I have the same problem which appears to be the motor jamming up and not turning. HOOVER WILL NOT REPLACE THE BROKEN UNIT BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS ONLY WARRANTIED IF I USED HOOVER BRAND SOLUTION. HOW A MOTOR BECOMES SEIZED BECAUSE OF A DIFFERENT SOLUTION ELUDES ME. ANOTHER CASE WHERE LIEING SAVES YOU AND BEING HONEST SCREWS YOU. THIS IS WHY THE WORLD IS GOING DOWN A TOILET AND WHY I WILL NOT BUY HOOVER PRODUCTS AGAIN. The solution used in no way impacts the motor! The side seals are way too flimsy and they get eaten out by hair and dirt to the point where you start losing suction. These should be re-engineered to be longer lasting side seals. I would also say that people who have a lot of pet care should clean the shampooer fairly often because this is part of why the seals fail. Now I am on the phone to get a second unit replaced in 6 months and that has me concerned that they have a high failure rate. Based on the fact that Hoover will not replace the seized motor, I cannot give it more than 1 star. Started at 5 stars in my initial review. Then dropped to 4 stars when it failed and I had to get a new one. but at least hoover replied fast. Now they refuse to replace it based on the brand of solution I used. I use Hoover, Bissel and Resolve cleaning solution, whatever is cheapest and I am sure the rest of you do the same. This is just Hoovers way of trying to avoid reasonable warranty replacement. Now I have to rate them 1 star. I have no shampooer and no refund after using it about once every 2 weeks for spot use. Badly built and badly supported.

Got rid of dog pee and poop stains there for months!
So my apartment has seen a number of foster dogs come in and out... that obviously comes with lots of accidents in the house. Specifically since we only have a rug in the living room, this is where they ALWAYS happen. We lived with the stains for months (maybe 3.5 months since the most recent accident) and finally decided it was time to invest in one of these.I’m maybe 20 minutes out carpet wasn’t from the nasty picture to the nice carpet it once was. THIS WAS WITH 20 MINUTES OF USING THIS MACHINE. It was easy to put together, slightly louder than expected, leaves the carpet slightly damp (that’s rectified within 20 minutes of air drying, no water gets onto your floors underneath. This is such an amazing buy!
