A surprisingly great read...!!
Let me start by saying I really don't like giving 5 stars but this book came tantalizingly close and would be about a 4.8....so, the benefit of the doubt rule applies. It started a little on the slow side. I didn't care for all the dates and time at the beginning of each chapter. I never know whether to memorize them or not and I really didn't see them as critical to the plot line of this book. That being said...this book built itself up...and up...and up until it was rolling along at a breakneck speed and kept me awake into the wee hours because I had to find out what was going to happen. At the end I couldn't turn pages fast enough...and then it ended. I was PO'd. Thank goodness the author saw fit to include the 1st couple of chapters of the next book in the series. Thank You David Meyer for authoring this book and providing me with several hours of pleasure. I already bought "Savage" and am looking forward to starting it.

His best so far....
I enjoyed this book. I have read several other Meyer books and found this one the most exciting and adventurous. While I did enjoy his others, they never really hit their mark with the fast pace I usually like. It's like he begins an action sequence, and then it dies out quickly. With this new book, Behemoth, Meyer begins to hit a better stride in making the story more suspenseful and entertaining. I liked the characters. Some were a bit predictable but overall, I have to say this one is his best book so far. I hope that he continues in the series. He makes it seems that it depends on his readers. That could be a fatal mistake. Meyer should be more amendable to simply continuing, what I believe to be, a good story line for a fun series. Let's hope he follows through and keeps us entertained with the future behemoths and their inescapable destruction!

OK, but not great.
I like stories about "oddities" such as "critters" that are different than what we are familiar with, stories with a bit of science fiction to them, but not necessarily "Alien" in nature. For that reason, this book piqued my curiosity. Now I have finished reading it, my "curiosity" is satisfied, but I do not feel compelled to take it any further, so I won't be reading the entire series. The tale was interesting, it moved along at a fairly quick pace. I would have enjoyed a better understanding of the lead characters, but maybe that comes when you continue with the series. I didn't find enough information about them in this first book to say I really connected with any of them. For the beginning of a series, it was well enough, but not compelling enough to keep me interested enough to go looking for Book #2 or #3, whatever.

A GOOD START TO A NEW SERIES
I enjoyed this book although at times it was unclear about some things. I did not and still do not understand about the oncoming inevitable extinction caused by the death of mega flora and fauna. I also have serious doubts about the premise of bringing them back will save the world.

A fun read, just a few stylistic quibbles
I found this story to be a compelling, if somewhat rough read. But it kept me turning the pages and I finished the whole thing, which is more than I can say for a lot of stuff I find on Kindle. My biggest complaint is that the author chooses to identify all of the characters by their last names, and many of them have names that sound very similar. This lead me to some points of real confusion in the narrative as I would get confused as to who was doing what. Recommendation for the author: try calling good guys by their first names, and bad guys by their last names - especially the protagonist. All in all, it's a competent tale and an interesting setup for future stories. It started ok........
I feel bad giving this two starts, because the writing isn't that bad, but there are some serious flaws in this story itself. It's impossible to give details without some serious spoilers, so I will have to be a little vague. The story starts out fine. Maybe a little to much angst from the main characters, Zach Caplan ( a survival expert) and Amanda Morgan (biologist), but not enough to stop reading. As it progresses, it paints the Zach as very knowledgeable about survival, yet he demonstrates extremely poor judgement related to it repeatedly. Actually, he seems fairly clueless most of the time. Then some alarming things happen (no spoilers). And then the end of the story arrives, abandoning all physics, and turns into a fantasy as it describes the outcome of the whole plot-line. Seriously, things that simply cannot happen in the context that they are presented. It got so ridiculous, I found myself groaning out loud. I won't be reading any of the other books.

Excellent Story
The storyline grabbed my attention from the first few paragraphs. Once I started reading, it was very difficult to stop. Although there were a couple of times where the story slowed down a bit, it didn’t detract my attention. I have also read the second book in this series entitled “Savage”. I highly recommend reading both of these books. I can’t wait for another to come out!

Keeps you wanting to read more...
This book holds you expectantly all the way to the end. You keep anticipating what will happen next and are suprised by what you discover (in a good way). When I got to the end, I immediately went to Kindle to see if the next part was available. It is a good read for all who like suspense, thrillers, scifi, etc.

but it is a good exciting read
Slight deviation from David Meyers normal range of books and i won't go into the plot, except to say it does have a slight twist on a Jurassic park story, but it is a good exciting read, and I hope he brings out more in the series.I know some people will moan and gripe, but it is not supposed to be taken seriously, just enjoy it for what it is.It's like cinema,I want to be entertained,I don't want to be preached at,or understand the underlying morals,I want to get away from the dull depressing world, take "my brain out" and enjoy, and this book does that.Hope David brings out the next in the series soon....and please make it a real book, not bloody kindle!

Good but not great, maybe the start of something great
I enjoyed this book, it was well-written and engaging. The basic premise is that a part of the world has been cordoned off for conservation / the re-introduction of species for the good of the planet.... naturally it goes wrong, there are people to be saved, spectacular foe and a hero with specific survival skills that has to save the day. I'm a Lee Child, Matthew Reilly fan and well used to heroes performing heroics against the odds, and my only criticism (that prevents a 5th star) is that there could be a little more action. I write this is the knowledge that some would view the book as far-fetched and shallow, but I've never been a great fan of deeply complex characters, hidden metaphors and the sort of books that win the Man Booker prize. Overall worth a try if you like this sort of book (and you'll be able to tell that from the description and probably even the name of the book!), I'll be buying the second in the series.
