Increasing Persistence: Research-based Strategies for College Student Success
B**W
Must have book for any student success library
I was asked to join the staff of a community college that serves one of the poorest populations in the country, students who are not college ready when they arrive, and is perpetually the lowest funded school in the country. I was subsequently assigned to the Student Success committee, that had one charge: FIX IT!!!This is one of the books we bought to do a quick review of initiatives that had proven successful at other schools so that we make some recommendations to the leadership. It's one of our regular go to books, and has been a good resource. It's very readable, and gives good examples of schools that have implemented these initiatives. Reading this and some of Vincent Tinto's books were a great place to start, then we could go much deeper into the literature about the initiatives that were under consideration. An important addition to any student success library, and one of the books on the reading list for the Higher Learning Commision (HLC) Persistence and Completion Academy.
