Perfect bookcase for our small den
Perfect bookcase for our small den. Excellent quality wood and the color is as stated. Quick assembly doing solo. Love the look.

Horrible assembly and a hint about making it easy to put in tight fitting screws.
I found the picture only instructions pretty straight forward. All the parts are well labelled so assembly is self explanatory. I assembled the unit and didn't fully tighten the screws as was recommended. Most similar prefab items do the same thing i.e. fully tightening all the screws once the unit is together. Getting some of the parts to align was a major pain but I got it done. When I went to tighten the screws, all the holes were too short by about an eighth of an inch. No amount of trying could get the screws in. I had to totally disassemble the unit, use a drill to deepen all the holes and then start from scratch reassembling the damned thing. There were no predrilled holes to attach the top. Not a big deal since I already had the drill out. The total time assembling, disassembling, drilling and reassembling took about three hours, I must admit that it does look nice now that it is together. Plus it is 100% dark stained real wood, not compressed beaver puke. One quick hint about putting screws into predrilled holes. If turning the screw is really tight, get a bar of soap and liberally rub it onto the screw threads. Goes in much easier. If the screw gets most of the way in but starts getting too hard to turn, back it out and put on a bit more soap. Better than stripping the head of the screw. The soap flakes wipe off easily. A carpenter taught me that trick many years ago.

Pleasantly surprised
This bookcase is very sturdy the color is beautiful and the quality is superb. Very easy to assemble. When you open the box the stain smell is very strong so if you're sensitive I would suggest leaving it out in the garage for a few days it didn't bother me one bit.

The paint and color is good. But overall not good
Just receive it today. Took an hour to put it together. It wobbles. I try to tighten the screws with electric screwdriver, but due to the tight space, not able to keep it very tight. One shelf is dented during transportation. The paint and color is good. But overall not good. I was planning to buy the whole set (bookcase, table, end table etc). I am glad I only ordered one. It makes me regret to buy furniture on line.

very nice
It went together easily, except for the top piece. The holes were crooked and so it's not quite sitting flush. Otherwise, the finish is very nice and there are no scratches. It's solid wood, so it's sturdy. Just right in the kitchen for my cookbooks and a few decorative items. Goes fine with my espresso finish table--close enough match. It is not too tall--just right for me.

Wobbly unless you drill holes prior to starting assembly
It's wobbly. the bookcase arrives in very well protected styrofoam. My bookcase showed no damage. And the pieces had a nice finish with no nicks or scratches. Assembly requires quite a bit of effort. There are 26 cabinet-style wood screws just to attached the shelves. There are wooden dowels that are used to help secure the shelves also. The instruction diagrams have no text, just graphic designs of which screw or dowel goes into each piece. For such a small and lightweight bookcase, I wondered if there was a simpler way to attach items. The key issue is that while the screws are self-drilling, the wood is sturdy and requires extreme effort to screw in the screw. I used a power screwdriver, and I still couldn't get the screws in all the way. Hence, when I was done, the bookcase was wobbly, I agree with other reviewers, that you need to drill the holes yourself, ahead of time. My advice -- lay the 2 side pieces flat, and then drill holds where marked. There's about 26 holes - but you could do it quickly if you did it BEFORE you tried assembling the pieces. The finished product looks nice, It's a nice design. But don't look too close, because it's wobbly.

Chemical smell
When I opened the box for this, I was overpowered by a chemical smell, I'm guessing varnish. It was awful. I put it together anyway and by the time I was done, my whole house smelled and I was nauseous. I had to out it outside for a few days to air out. Makes me really nervous about what chemicals are in it. I can still smell it if I get close. This bookshelf also had that issue where one side is not as long, so it wobbles. The style is very nice, but quality is not there. Also for installation, there were 12 screws that were supposed to screw into finished wood, with no pilot holes! And it was the last step after everything else was put together, so to make my own pilot holes would have required me to take apart a lot of it.
