Why You're Stuck: Your Guide to Finding Freedom from Any of Life's Challenges

A thoughtful book on moving ahead
I enjoyed this thoughtful little book about feeling stuck. The author suggests that feeling stuck is not necessarily a bad thing but is a place to begin reflecting on what is causing the feeling and what you need to move ahead. He gives many good suggestions for how to dig deeper into yourself to discover the answers for how to change your life and find greater fulfillment. I feel it is well worth a read if you are feeling stuck.I gave this book 4 stars rather than 5 simply because there are quite a number of typos, errors and omissions. It is surprising with a book of this quality and is an unfortunate mark against it.

Pure Stoa Teachings in Modern English
This book is pure stoicism translated into English. All of Dereks points in the book can be found with Epictetus or Mark Aurel.and the most other protagonists of the school of the Stoa poikile. But Derek brings it in a context to all who have not gone through Philosophical lectures in University.Within all the Behavioural Books around, this book is the missing link to execute what is recommended.January 28 2015I want to add now some points which might be helpful for potential readers: I identified my root problem as far as 60 years back ( I am 68 now)Not that I would have not known it instinctively but It revealed to me how deep the roots of problems can go. No I was not abused just the opposite I had a beautiful childhood and was everybodies darling in a small farm town and this was exactly my problem as I was used to get what I wanted. Despite of that I was very successful in life, sure with some setbacks.Would I have gone through teachings like that book is offering when I was younger only the sky would have been my limits. As Derek is a young man by himself he earns credit having put together all the theories on the subject in a way even old guys like me are still able to learn from it.Great jobRichard RiverskyAuthor of A Retiree Now? Very Pragmatic with Insane Insight
I really like Derek's newest book. I can tell he wrote it from the heart and that the inspiration came directly from his own life, which to me makes the information more valuable.Derek doesn't just talk about idealistic concepts. It's very clear that he's struggled with all of the issues he covers in the book. He has first-hand experiences with the often troubling emotions that arise from "being stuck".In addition, he gives you actual examples of scenarios which really help to solidify learning the complex concepts he discusses. The author takes you on a deep, inner journey of faith, trust, and courage. The way he presents the information is very, very clear and concise. The writing style in this book is easy to understand, and the author slips in the occasional bit of dry humor which I really enjoy. He's a pretty funny guy and he tells it to you like it is, but without judgment. You can tell by reading this book that his primary goal is to provide value and insight that truly and deeply inspires his readers. He's on a mission to help people discover themselves and work through their issues in life.All-in-all, this is a great book if you find yourself in a place that you don't want to be in. Tons of wisdom and perspective in this book to choose from. It would be extremely difficult to read this book and not have an "Aha!" moment. A must-read for anyone on the path!Great book, Derek, thanks a lot!

Finally finished it. Meh.
The first 50ish percent is decent, but the use of the same situations over and over is boring and redundant. Several editing and grammatical errors, seems to lose train of thought mid paragraph. Some useful quotes and information gleaned from Tony Robin's and other self help gurus. I started it in 2014, and started it over again to finish what I started. I'm so thankful I trudged thru till the end, but mostly just skim/scrolled because the writing was so annoying by that point.Would not recommend, just read Tony Robins.

Naja...
