Lots More Blues, Rags And Hollers

Not quite of the same standout quality as it's predecessor but a still a classic!

Good CD.

This was the second rural blues album - including musically related material - done by these three white blues enthusiasts - to come out of the folk boom of the early sixties - an album that introduced many of the uninitiated to the great music of artists like Leadbelly, Bukka White and Muddy Waters. Their first album - Blues, Rags and Hollers - was John Lennon's favourite album of the year. Although Koerner, Ray and Glover are headlined as a trio - the only two tracks here where they're featured as such are Black Dog and What's The Matter With The Mill. Tony Glover's ominous harp playing is featured on a number of Dave Ray's tracks. Yet they'd come to prominence as a trio - and when Dave Ray died a few years back - Koerner and Glover performed a concert on a set that included an empty chair for Ray. The final four tracks are a bonus as they were not included in the original vinyl release but were from a compilation album called The Blues Project released during the latter half of the sixties. This is a great buy.
