Best cpu without hurting the bank
Easily one of Intels best budget cpu of its time whilst not being on the toasty side. Can easily achieve excellent performance in many titles. Can run lots of games in high to medium graphics whilst offering smooth performance

Excellent entry level for making a basic gaming PC
For basic machines, I cannot fault how cheap and powerful this CPU is. Be careful if you don’t have a spare GPU as you probably don’t want to buy the F variant as this does not have on board graphics Great value for money for basic machines and basic gaming PC

A Surprisingly Capable Budget CPU
I ended up with one of these in a roundabout way. My new-build PC kept having random bluescreens, and after ruling everything else out I concluded that my i5-12600K was faulty. So I bought an i3-12100F just to make sure, and ever since installing it my PC has worked fine. It's not often that a CPU breaks, but obviously it can happen. I've always avoided the i3 range - back when the i5-2500K was king they were poor value - but the i3-12100 is a surprisingly capable chip for something with only four cores. My Cinebench score is 1636 for single-core performance, vs 1862 for the i5-12600K, which isn't very much. I'm no good at maths, but the 12600K's single-core performance is slightly more than 10% faster for a chip that's more than twice as expensive. As a 6+4-core chip the 12600K absolutely hammers the 12100F at multi-core benchmarks (17573 vs 8345), but I don't encode much video and my favourite games are a few years old. The original Outer Worlds runs fine, as does XCOM 2 and the Enhanced Editions of the STALKER games. The 2020 version of Microsoft Flight Simulator runs decently well, but that was a performance hog. Total power consumption of the entire PC averages around 40w, which is nice, and the temperature with a decent fan in a mostly empty case varies from 28c to about 50c. At some point I'll probably upgrade, but given that we seem to be in the midst of a CPU shortage it's really good value for £70. Why four stars? The supplied heatsink has pushpins. I hate pushpins. Screws! Screws are good. Pushpins are bad.

Good budget value processor
Originally I had planned on buying an amd 5600 during the sales but I left it a day too late and all the amd alternatives had shot up in price. After some research I settled on getting this 12100f as integrated graphics were not something I desperately needed. At the price this is one of the cheaper processors you can get for a budget build and I purchased it for exactly that reason, as part of a budget build for my nephews Christmas. At the price the clock speed leaves very little to be desired and the included fan is surprisingly quiet when installed.
