Organic
This product ticks all the right boxes: it's organic, non-toxic, reef-safe, and cruelty-free. The fact that it's also water-resistant makes it perfect for beach days or outdoor workouts. I love how it goes on smoothly and doesn't leave a white cast, unlike other mineral sunscreens I've tried. Plus, the packaging is plastic-free, which aligns perfectly with my efforts to reduce plastic waste. It's rare to find a sunscreen that protects both your skin and the environment. Overall, highly recommend this sunscreen to anyone looking for effective sun protection that’s also eco-friendly. 🌞🌊🌿

Great product
I took this product with me on a recent cruise to South Pacific- I did some research on reef safe sunscreen and brought another one that was highly rated, however when I tried the other one I hated it and I used this one when I went in the ocean or hung out poolside for a few hours. I used a spray type on my back when family couldn’t help me apply. Will appear clear when rubbed in properly, but after swimming a bit you’ll notice where skin creases you’ll want to give it a rub again, as the zinc/ white color will begin to be visible again. Reapplies very nicely vs. other types of zinc sunscreens-I felt like having a fresh water rinse before reapply was best though. I’m very fair skinned so I reapply at least every couple hours- I never burned on the trip while using this sunscreen! Because of the extreme sun/heat on that trip I was sure I would burn, I came out a nice golden color instead. Never got clogged face pores which I loved too! I’d say that 1 can will last 1 adult person about a week if in the sun each day. It has wax in it which looks really cool when you get out of the water since water will remain on the surface. I had to get the hang of how much to use on various areas like face or leg because it’s a thick creamy wax. When your body temp is hot like at the pool the cream spreads easier. I will be bringing this sunscreen on other trips in the future and using it when spending time in the yard too.

Responsible seller, good product
I ordered these in the end of December, for use in the spring and summer. Unfortunately for me, I did not notice that sunscreens I was sent expired only 3 months later, in April 2024. Very poor customer service to send a product so near its end of life. Unsurprisingly, product smells bad, has separated, and is clearly expired. Return window ended by the time I noticed, so all I can do is write this review and hopefully save others the disappointment. ***Review update: Seller was very good about refunding once alerted about the expiration issue. The one tin that was not expired worked well. Goes on smooth and the tin is surprisingly convenient. Only issue, which I can live with, is that the product is a bit sticky on skin (does not fully absorb). I love that the product is plastic-free.

Not what you would expect
At room temperature the cream more resembles a paste in the container. I would say it handles very similarly to hair styling cream if you've ever used such a thing. The nice thing about that is that the product is very dense, so a little goes a long way in my opinion. Rubbing it between your fingers or hands to melt it down and make it more spreadable is highly recommended, which it probably says in the instructions, but I didn't read those. It does go on and feel oily at first, which I personally don't like, but it does set after a few minutes, leaving my face looking more dewy than oily I would say, which is nice. It does stay on throughout the day, but if you wear glasses or fabric face masks, be warned that it will smear/spread to anything on your face a bit, which is the only major downfall to it. I've tried rubbing it in vigorously to my face, thinking that it'll thin out more with heat and absorb better, but that isn't the case. I won't say it leaves items on your face COVERED in it, just some slight smudges of it will be left behind on the item when you take it off your face. Glasses/Sunglasses wearers beware, if you have trouble with keeping your glasses up on your nose, this will add a little resistance at first, but if out in the sun, it will cause them to slip a little more as the product thins out slightly in the heat/direct sunlight. Overall, once I became more familiar/skilled at applying it and compensating for face wear, it is an excellent product that I would absolutely recommend.

Little bit of a let down
Pros: Natural and reef safe! Plastic free package! Little to no scent right out of the tin! Rubs in completely (no white residue)! Nice texture. Cons: It is NOT even close to water resistant in my experience. Makes my skin so sticky and weird smelling after a few hours in the sun/salt water/sweating. Need to reapply more often than I'd like. I really wanted to love this sunscreen...Although I will finish this tin, I probably won't purchase again. The main issue is just the constant need to reapply. I know you have to do this with all sunscreen, but with this one, it's a really unpleasant experience. I get sweaty and sandy at the beach. And this sunscreen makes my skin feel 10x dirtier than it really is. While it does rub in well, it is oily so I am left sticky, which is okay, I've never had a natural sunscreen that was totally absorbed. However, because I'm sticky, I get more sandy. Then when I go to reapply, i get to put sticky sunscreen on my sticky dirty skin. SO, I would not recommend for the beach because of the lack of staying power and unpleasant reapplication. BUT, I will use this up in other sunny situations.

This is great sunscreen
It's great and it goes on smoothly and absorbs well. I bought it as face sun screen, for which it is great, but it works well for whole body. The tin stays closed, so you can keep it in your purse or bag without worrying that it will open and be annoying.

everything I hoped for
I have been looking to make the switch to natural and reef safe sunscreen. I spent a good deal of time reading product information, ingredients and reviews. I purchased several sunscreens to try. I am blonde and fair skinned. I can tan, but I burn easily especially in the beginning of summer. I put Raw Elements to the test by using in it Hawaii with no real sun exposure this year. Without cheap fillers, this sunscreen cream is thick and you need to allot time to put it on, different than your OTC lotion. I gave a 4 for easy to spread because it is doable! I was able to apply most of it while we were driving to our destinations. Raw Elements touts 80 minutes of sun protection. I reapplied religiously at 90 minutes, again, being sure to allot time to apply. My fair skin did not burn. Not in Hawaii, not snorkeling, not on beach days with several reapplications. I also get eczema, often irritated by chemicals and fragrance. My skin seemed to love having this sunscreen on, so much so, I looked to see if they just made a lotion. My kids are older, but this would be a difficult sell for kids. its not quick and requires attentive application as advertised, but the product itself is soothing, as advertised, and worked under pretty intense testing. I highly recommend this natural, reef safe, plastic free sunscreen.

Benzene?
I have ordered so many tins of this stuff. I've given it to friends for holidays. When an independent consumer protection organization detected carcinogenic benzene in a few batches, I gathered up every tin in every bag I own... 5 tins! I seriously have loved this stuff, and I'd love to keep using it, but of course I'm not going to use it again until I get some kind of answer about whether or not the batches I own have tested negative for benzene. I put this stuff on my kids! But when I emailed the company to ask what their action plan was (I don't expect money back; I don't even want to discard the stuff unless I really need to), this is the answer I got: *** Thank you for your inquiry. Like you, Raw Elements recently learned of a third-party's testing of 300 batches of sunscreen products from numerous manufacturer's products for the presence of Benzene, and the subsequent submission of a citizen's petition to the FDA. We were not contacted directly by the group and have not been provided with the raw data or information pertaining to the testing standards. However, we are diligently conducting our own investigation. At Raw Elements, our goal is to provide our consumers with access to safe, effective, and certified natural sunscreens. Our founding principle as a company is to use natural and certified products and ingredients. Notably, our products have been thoroughly tested for safety and follow the legal requirements for the manufacturing and marketing of sunscreens. There is nothing more important than safety. Indeed, we have been blessed to be ranked as a top sunscreen by the Environmental Working Group, a leading nonprofit entity promoting healthy products, and by other notable publications. These are annual rankings, and we intend to maintain our status as a leader so that our customers can purchase our products with confidence in their safety as we continue to grow as a company. We manufacture all of our products in a FDA registered facility. All products are manufactured according to current good manufacturing practices for over-the-counter drugs. Our products are well within all tolerances for safety as outlined by current FDA guidelines. Raw Elements also has voluntarily submitted its products for testing by multiple recognized third-party laboratories to verify our products' safety and efficacy for our customers. Consistent with our past performance, we take this new report of potential Benzene contamination seriously and are laser-focused on eliminating the possibility of its presence in even the most minute amounts in any of our sunscreens. We are also actively working with our suppliers and raw material sources to identify how benzene contamination could have occurred. We will continue to make ourselves available to answer questions you may have while we work to continue to bring you the best sunscreen on the market. RAW ELEMENTS TEAM *** Okay. Cool. This is the sort of non-answer that I would expect from a company I respect a lot less than I have, in the past, respected this one. That was 5/31/21. Two months later, I'm still waiting from the company to offer annnnything better. Just information! Just some kind of acknowledgment that they're looking into it...? They should know that people who are going to the trouble to order something called "raw elements" sunscreen are going to expect their products to test CLEAN FOR CARCINOGENS. My goodness. I'm hanging onto the tins I have for now. They're in a little pile. I'll throw them out in a couple weeks if Raw Elements doesn't communicate some kind of response to their customers. In the meantime, I'm wearing sun-protective clothing and staying out of the rays as much as I can. I did buy super-clean (sounding) sunblock from two other companies who weren't on the benzene-contamination list, which I'm using when I need to. But, frankly, until a company comes out and says that they've TESTED FOR BENZENE, I'm not really trusting any of it. The first company that does *that* will have my business for life... or for as long as their integrity lasts.
