I have a knapsack as well. Excellent quality material. It is durable and water proof or water repellent at least have not been out in pouring rain for long periods of time. It's fine for commuting around the city in bad weather with no issues at all. I use this bag for easy access to my wallet, phone, ear buds and anything else small I need to get at easily. I can organize all of these things nicely. I personally do not like large handbags that are not crossbody bags. In big bags I cannot organize things and tend to "lose" stuff in them. Constantly searching for my keys, buds and other small stuff. So this bag is great and perfect for travel for that reason. All my essentials like passport and tickets are easy to find and access when needed. Those things are safer in this bag then in the smaller pockets on my knapsack that somebody could unzip and take stuff without me knowing. The red colour is a nice shade and for me goes with everything.
