Works better than some other reviews say.
My experience of this product is different from quite a lot of other reviewers.1. The light is perfectly bright for indoor use. I haven't tried outdoors but tried it in my apartment which has 10 ft windows along the entire length, in broad daylight (though not direct sun) and with all the lights on. The lines were perfectly visible from 30 feet, which is the length of the room so the furtherst I could try. It would probably be visible from further. At this distance the horizontal line is longer than the width of my apartment, which is about 15 feet.2. The horizontal is perfectly level. I checked it against the water level in a transparent tray of water.3. The self-levelling works and so does the alert. However it took me a little while to figure out how it works. As others have said, the thing that looks like an on/off button on the top is not. The on/off is a slider on the front. The button on top is to turn the self-levelling alert on or off. The point is that the cross-beam self levels by means of a mechanical pendulum (I think), but it only works if the unit is within a small angle of level. If you have the self-levelling alert on then the following happens:a) if the unit is within the required angle of level for the pendulum to work, the crossbeams will bounce around a bit and then find their level, and the crossbeam will then be continuous.b) if the unit is not within the required angle of level, the crossbeams will not bounce, they will just sit there wonky and flash rapidly. If you have the self-levelling alert off then the following happens: regardless of whether or not the unit is within the required angle of level, the beams will flash slowly. I personally do not find the beam unusable at this slower speed of flashing.4) I only received this yesterday so I don't know about how long it will continue working.5) The reason I've only given it 4 stars is that it will not level if you point it upwards but still have the unit level horizontally. That is to say it has to be within the required angle both horizontally and vertically to work. This is a shame as changing the angle from vertical should not affect whether the vertical line is vertical. It makes it a bit less useful for me as I need it for an 11 ft high wall and I only have a 5 ft tripod. But it's ok, I'll just have to put the tripod on a table, or do a little measuring.

Nice laser level with a defect - Customer Service Update
On a tripod, this thing works great. It leaves a nice clear line to follow to level out all your wall hanging jobs. It has a self-leveling feature that, from what I can tell, is defective. It blinks until it auto-levels... but it never stops blinking. It will auto-level but just keeps blinking making the line difficult to use. So I've found myself using the tripod and a separate level to make it work. I contacted the manufacturer to ask about this but never got a reply.10/30/20 Update:After this review, their customer support reached out to me via email and as a reply to this review offering a replacement. I thought that was good, though I did contact support over a month ago through their web site. But stuff happens, I get it. So I replied with my original order number and shipping address. Then I got another email instructing me to email the same info again to [email protected]. So I did. Then I got the reply below. If they make good on a working product, I have no problem deleting a negative review. But to be bullied into deleting a review before they'll send me a replacement and the speed of delivering the replacement is contingent on me deleting the review? I don't like the tone or style of this customer service. I've revised my review to 1-star based on this, and I will avoid this company going forward.Hello Shannon,Thanks for your reply and cooperation.Yes, we will send this item to you.Could you please delete your review first? This is your review's link.https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R14M74XJ4AHRJ6/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B01N33JJ3RBecause if you didn't delete it, our system will detect and know you have a negative review, and it will delay your shipment automatically, you will receive it after a month.Sorry to say that but we have to tell you the truth. But if you delete it, you will receive it within a week. Please trust us, we won’t cheat you. After you delete it, please send us you address and we will arrange a new shipment to you immediately.Looking forward to your reply.Best Regards,BonnieCustomer Service Team

Life/Time Saver
So far I have completed 5 projects that needed leveling or benefited from it. Self-leveling is awesome. You can attach the unit to your walls using the magnetic adapter (most wall corners / window edges have metal corner beading which is usually magnetic) or you can use a tripod as it has a standard 1/4 -20 thread mount. A super useful product that has saved me valuable time.

Confidence with a LASER
My first tile job turned out great using this laser level to get me started and allow me to check my work. It does all the thinking; you just need to set it at the height you need. It had a magnetic bracket but that didn’t help me much so I screwed it to the wall and also used an old tripod. You can actually just set it on a pile of bricks or blocks or anything. Horizontal and vertical lines allo you to check before you start and as you go. I can’t compare to expense ones, but this is all I needed. It is not super bright and does fade out on the edges but that’s really not a problem in my small bath. You can darken the room if you cannot see the lines. Great value for high tech! (PS this laser does not shoot straight up for a plumbline.) UPDATE: Try it outdoors for landscape projects; just remember it is not bright enough for daytime use.

Metric 4 cm (1-9/16") vertical offset from surface to horizontal beam is inconvenient for USA
The horizontal beam is 4 cm above the surface you set it on. That's about 1-9/16". That's an inconvenient number to offset to get back to zero.My brother had a Bosch. Its offset was 2". Easy subtraction. Now, you could add a 7/16" plate to the bottom to make a 2" offset. What a bother. Why would some company be stupid enough to try to sell a measuring tool to the US market with a metric offset? The company should at least include a plate to make a 2" offset for Yankee carpenters. And how would 'Amazon's Choice' be dumb enough to not notice this?Otherwise it was bright and seemed to work well, and was dirt cheap.
