Pleasing arrangements! Love this!
I picked up a handful of hymn-based piano books and this is definitely my favorite. It is far from the chunky chord progressions in traditional hymnals, but not "out there" or "excessively" stylized either. Each is quite moving and beautiful while still keeping the original hymn easily recognizable. The difficulty is great for me... so, to make that helpful in any way... I do not play in church. I'm not consistent enough to be able to accompany others singing (unless its some of my pop music I've played many times over-like Coldplay or Evanescence). I can learn and play advanced piano music with structured practice. I'm not skilled enough to just flutter out pretty runs or play based on chords and scales alone--essentially I always read the music to play. Usually, I find music labeled intermediate can vary from too simple to just right to whip through for fun but not perfection with minimal to no practice. So this "late intermediate" level is a good fit. I could sight read it well enough to enjoy myself, but would need some practice to get up to speed, maintain tempo throughout, and not goof up key changes if I wanted to play these for anyone else. On that note, it is a very enjoyable collection to play for myself and I would love to hear our more skilled church pianists play any of these arrangements before/after service or during offeratory.

Late Intermediate Book
This book is going to take some work on my part. I didn't notice that it was a "late intermediate" book, and while I can play some of the tunes and really appreciate that the music is arranged for special occasions, many of them are complicated & going to take real effort for me to learn and play. I consider myself an intermediate player. I may gift this book to the church pianist.

Playable
I like this book because it has many hymns and songs that Lutherans sing. The pieces are readily playable and will not require too much practicing. (I admit I've played for church for years.) Some of the intros I don't like but they can be left off. Some one critiqued that the pieces are too much alike, but hey, I will be mixing them with other pieces - I won't be playing them all in a row. I have other Cindy Berry books I like; she is a staple.

It's nice not having buyer's remorse for once!
I have never, ever bought a sacred piano book and played through literally every song start to finish! Usually there are a few I get bored with or give up on, but every one of these works. By which I mean they're playable, the chords make sense, and they're of a good length for service music. I'd say most are sight-readable for an intermediate-to-advanced player, and even better, the vast majority could easily be adapted for organ. That said, playing through the entire book reveals some abrupt endings and repetitive patterns (2nd time through, give the melody to the left hand!), but obviously one wouldn't perform all 60 pieces in one service. And there seem to be quite a few slow, quiet ones that build toward the end. I would like a few more "preludey" ones with impressive openings, but with so much serviceable music in one book it's hard to complain. I appreciate that these are not concert-style show-off pieces, because while those have their place, I generally reserve them for special occasions rather than service music. For anyone wondering, this is sold as a single book, not a package of 6 separate books, which is handy. The comb binding makes it easy to lay flat. The fact that it's grouped by months is a nice perk.

Handy Resource for Church Pianists
This is a great resource of church pianists. I love the fact that there's such a large selection of hymns that are harder to find. My abilities are somewhere in the advanced range and I was able to play through the entire book at near performance-ready level on sight. It's perfect for those weeks where there's just not time to prepare more difficult pieces. I especially enjoyed the arrangements of God Will Take Care of You and many of the other old Methodist hymns. Each one follows almost the same exact cookie-cutter format---begins with standard arrangement, flows into an alternative melody (often minor), ends with a big, loud arrangement for the end. That makes it rather monotonous when playing straight through the book. If you are looking for showy, difficult arrangements, stick with someone like Mark Hayes. These are quick and easy, but still sound nice and polished.

The biggest volume of usable, enjoyable hymntune arrangements I have EVER found.
I already had volume #4 of this outstanding collection from several years ago. I promised myself I would find and buy the others but hadn't yet. Christmas came early this year. The 6 volumes are now one, comb-bound for easy page turns and comprise 230 pages of great arrangements of well known hymn tunes organized by season. Some of the most overly arranged hymns of The Faith have found new life in these pages. It is rare to find a book where you end up using more than half the arrangements. It is harder to find arrangements that you won't be able to use in this book. A few medleys are included and include completely original transitions that keep the music fresh and moving. A bargain at twice the price. Rated at "late-intermediate" difficulty. I see it as a great source of study material for any young church musician of "intermediate" ability.

Must-Have for Church Pianists
The media could not be loaded. I just received the book in the mail, and couldn't help sitting down at the piano with it. An hour later, I remembered I had other things to do.... Perfect for church pianists. Just complex enough for a congregation. Quick to work up, especially for a decent sight reader. Lyrical arrangements that don't change keys every eight bars for no apparent reason. Excellent editing and good, intuitive dynamic markings. The arrangements support the hymn tunes in a way that encourages prayerful thought rather than working against the meaning. In short, this is the one you want. Worth the money. A great go-to book.I hate not being able to test out sheet music - here's a quick almost-sight-read video, mistakes and all. (Sorry.)

Very nice!
Just what I was looking for. Season layer out. Mid range difficulty. So easy to get ready for dunday but just the right amount of challenge.

So advanced that it requires hours of practice
A beautiful collection, but nearly all of the pieces are so advanced that they require a lot of preparation and practice before they can be used. I state this as a pianist who completed grade 10 (now level 10) of RCM. The price of the book is also a bit prohibitive. I wish I had known in advance how difficult the pieces were. The sample shown was, in my opinion, the easiest song in the collection, and not an accurate reflection of the difficulty level of most of the pieces.
