The Pursuit of God

As a trained theologian we have here an excellent work on what the Christian life should be. As a pastor here is an perfect book to give to both a new Christian or a well established saint. For the hungry here is good food for the thirsty refreshing drink. For those in error gentle correction and for the tired and jaded new energy and life. A great short book, easy to read, but a gold mine full of treasures.

Wow what an amazing book.AW Tozer's faith in God is astounding.What I loved the most about this book were the chapter ending prayers. So humble, so genuine.A great book to read, added to my favourites.

This is indeed, another great book on Christian guidance by an author I so respect. My next task? Back into Amazon to try and find another A.W Tozer book I have not read.

How are we to find belief in God? A question that has tested human beings, at least those of us who are open to finding out, for centuries.For the most part it is one that theologians haven’t been much help in answering. They tend to bind the whole issue around with arguments and terminology so complex you could be forgiven for thinking they might get more than a little lost themselves sometimes.A few hardy souls have tried to make the subject halfway accessible for we lay people with varying levels of success. C.S Lewis in his Mere Christianity, a book based on talks he gave on the BBC during the Second World War, has been for me the go to text.This book by American preacher A.W. Tozer who lived and worked in Chicago in the first half of last century may just join him on my personal list of required reading.The tone is different, Lewis was an Oxbridge don and for all the good sense and noble intentions he demonstrates did tend to address his audience from a position of lofty intellectual superiority. This can, along with some of the social attitudes implied, grate on the sensibilities of modern readers.Tozer, who was largely self-educated and began his career as a preacher in a store front church, speaks in a markedly different voice. His is that of the ‘plain man’, one who speaks simply without ever being simplistic in what he has to say.His message, as was the case with Lewis, is that there is no more satisfying and ultimately necessary thing a human being can do than set out on the long search for a relationship with God. A demanding journey that asks much of those who make it, but one that leads them to a better and more moral life.For all the homespun nature of his language the arguments Tozer makes are informed by years of study and informed by a deep and living faith. Anyone setting out on the journey he describes needs more than one guidebook to show them the way; this short but profound one will join a select few others in my own luggage.

Back to basics...always a good thing. All about relationship (with God, then man), not at all about religion. Highly recommended.

A.W TOZER WAS AND THROUGH HIS WORKS STILL IS A GIFT TO THE BODY OF CHRIST,HIS WORKS HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME, DEFINATELY ONE OF THE GREATEST CONTEMPORARY PREACHERS/LEADERS OF OUR GENERATION. I KNOW HE IS WITH THE LORD UP IN HEAVENLY GLORY BUT HIS WORKS HAVE BEEN PRESERVED SO THAT MANY OF US WHO ARE TRULY SEEKING GOD WOULD ENCOUNTER HIM(GOD)DAILY IN OUR LIVES.I AM A YOUNG 25 YEAR OLD MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL AND I HAVE BEEN PERSUADED OF THE TIMELESS TRUTHS IN THIS BOOK. The Christian world in the 21st century is nothing but compromises and concessions to the tradition and laws of men. Many Christians have stopped following the word of God and therefore they have lost the way. In this book, written 6 to 7 decades ago, the question remains: Are we fully experiencing life if it is not for the glory of our Creator? Sin removed us from His presence. To go back to Eden, children of God must start the quest to follow what their Father wants. In that pursuit, they will find not only redemption for their souls but also fulfillment of their life's purpose here on earth. That is what the book is about. In the most beautifully crafted words, AW Tozer poured his heart in this book. This could only be an inspiration by the Holy Ghost.

I found this book so helpful. It challenged me and reassured me. Nothing in this word is more precious than pursuing God + finding out that He in His Infinite Love and Grace has been pursuing us all along!

Tozer exhibits the vibrant paradox of the Christian faith of living both earthly and heavenly in a brilliant manner. Walking through different aspects each chapter is one for meditation and contemplation as a prayer of the heart to stir hunger.
