Magic! Warm it first a bit
Dirty Down Rust Effect is widely regarded as one of the most transformative technical paints in the miniature painting world, offering a level of realism that traditional acrylics simply cannot match. Unlike a standard paint, this is a water-soluble chemical effect that dries into a multi-toned, textured finish that perfectly mimics the look of oxidized iron. The beauty of this product is its unpredictability; as it dries, it naturally creates a variety of shades ranging from deep, dark browns to bright, chalky oranges, giving your Warhammer vehicles, scenery, or weathered armor an authentic, rusted appearance in a single application. The application process is unique and rewards experimentation. To get the best results, you must shake the bottle vigorously for at least a minute to ensure the sediment is fully incorporated, as the magic happens in the chemical balance of the liquid. It can be applied heavily for a "neglected for decades" look or thinned with a damp brush to create subtle rust streaks running down a panel. One of its most impressive features is that it remains water-reactive even after it has dried; if you find an area is too orange or thick, you can simply take a wet brush and "re-work" the area to blend it or tone it down, giving you incredible control over the final weathering. While the effect is stunning, it does require a bit of a learning curve to master. Because it is water-soluble, you have to be very careful if you plan to use water-based washes or contrast paints over the top, as they will reactivate the rust and cause it to bleed. It is generally best to apply this as one of the very last steps in your project. Additionally, the finish is quite matte and textured, so if you apply a varnish over it, the color shift can be dramatic, often darkening the bright oranges significantly. Itโs also worth noting that the bottle can be prone to clogging if the rim isn't kept clean, so a quick wipe after use will save you a lot of hassle. For any hobbyist looking to add "Grimdark" grit and realistic decay to their models, this is an absolute essential that saves hours of manual stippling and glazing.

Better than expected!! Great stuff.
Absolutely brilliant stuff!! Bought a huge cow skull for the garden (undercover, it won't get wet) but the effect wasn't what I wanted, I wanted a rustic metal look. After watching a lot of videos I decided to purchase and I'm absolutely blown away by the look, exactly what I wanted!!!! Went on easily with a small brush, dried quickly and still have 1/4 of a bottle left. Will deffo buy again and highly recommend. Looks slightly orangey in the picture but the kitchen cabinet light makes it look this way, in 'real life' it looks exactly like rust!

Magic in a bottle
This stuff is like magic. You just paint it on, wait for it to dry and then hey presto, you've got rust! It's water soluble so then you can wipe off excess with a damp cloth or reactivate it with a brush with some water to get the desired effect. It says its fine to handle once dried, but i sealed it with clear matte varnish and I've had zero issues. The paint separates very easily and requires mixing up thoroughly before use. I've got a vortex paint mixer which I use, however it might also be an idea to get in there with a cocktail stick to physically mix it up before use as well. Highly recommend. Super easy to use and gets great looking results. Well worth a buy for any model hobbyist. Best rust effect I've used by far!

pretty decent
the first pot i bought was great, it went on flat and gave a rusty oily effect that dried matte the second bottle however would dry (in places) really light orange and crispy which wasnt great seeing as the rest if my builds were based on the oily rust...that being said however it is in its own right a very cool effect im just having really mixed feelings about this as someone who paints daily. shouldnt be too hard to bring the oily effect back however with a second wash.

Brilliant Rust Effect Paint
Dirty Down Rust is an absolute game changer for me in my miniature painting, it's colour produced is awesome. I was inspired to buy this after seeing numerous people on tiktok as well as youtube shorts using it to produce awesome effects and so bit the bullet to buy it. The quality of the rust effect is unparalleled. The drying time is quite fast when applied neat, but when diluted with water amplifies the drying time, and also introduces different colour variations and light levels into the rust. Incredibly functional and enjoyable to use

Amazing stuff!
This should be the secret weapon in all modellers armouries. It really genuinely looks like rust in all its shades and hues. Just be sure to shake the hell out of it before use, and be sure to splash it about a bit with some water on a brush.
