One-Block Wonders Encore!: New Shapes, Multiple Fabrics, Out-of-this-World Quilts

I love this book
The authors of this book give precise and easy to follow directions for prepping the fabric in order to cut the triangles for this one block wonder design. I think their choice of materials and recommending that they be purchased is a real asset to the process. There is one caveat however because they don't recommend just turning the triangle ruler upside down in order to avoid left handed (or if you are left handed; right handed) rotary cutting.I would have preferred more instructions on finishing the quilt...Like how to finish the pointed end..Overall I think this book was worth buying. That said I think that the book would have been better had the authors given pictures of all the fabrics used to get the hexagon quilts...This was a major defect in the book in my opinion. One really needs to see the original fabric so one has a visual guide as to the type of fabric used in a design that is appealing to that particular reader making a future fabric choice much easier. I ended up buying several fabrics before I found a fabric I really liked made into this design. The book could have saved me the expense had they included the original pictures.....That said I would recommend this book to any beginning quilter. Btw, I do not think these quilts make a good king sized quilt...That is what I made and it loses so much of its impact when lain on a flat surface and not viewed at an angle on the bed...Which then leads to my suggestion that if one is making a quilt for a bed use the bed to layout your design and not a wall.....one learns in the doing...and that is what I learned....

This is the book with the 3-D cubes instructions
If you love the looks of One Block Wonder designs and you have some basic piecing knowledge, this is the only book you'll need to produce beautiful results. The first pages provide basic instructions for correctly stacking and cutting the wedges and the rest of the book is dedicated to creating variations as shown on the cover, including fabric selection guidance. A 60-degree triangle ruler is a super helpful tool to have on hand. Go for it!

THIS ONE TEACHES CUBES.
This is the one that teaches cubes! You need this one before the one that's called cubes. I now have all 3. This is a must have. It breaks down all the steps so I can understand them. Good pictures. Easy to follow instructions. They are written to use the Clear View ruler but I'm doing mine with a blunt tip ruler from Creative Grids. The Clear View seems to have a slightly smaller than 1/4" tip mark. I'm not having a problem at all with my 60' CG ruler and the cuts. YOU MUST HAVE THIS ONE

The one to get
As I ordered this book, I was not sure what to expect. I, also, ordered the first book, which, in retrospect, is too basic for most quilters in comparison. This book elaborates on the original simple and brilliant theme, while adding a new perspective, which any quilter can easily make their own and take further.Other than explaining the principles already set down in the first book, here the reader is encouraged to get a bit more experimental and infuse more fabrics and variations of the theme together, which, I believe, is the direction any half-serious quilter will take. Easy to follow and well illustrated, I found this book to be an excellent source of reference and inspiration. For the beginner to the well stiched quilter, this book is worth having in the library.

Must have quilting book
I have used several different instructions to make 3d blocks and found that the number of instructions provided were way too many to follow. Like more quilters I can get distracted by almost anything and with the other instructions I needed to start from step one each time. The simple and easy to follow direction and great pictures gave me what I needed to complete 20 blocks in a short period of time. I recommend this and the first one block wonders book to gain a great skill.

For art quilt makers, mostly
I bought this book to learn how to make the three dimensional blocks, which this does teach. If you want to make very detailed art quilts, this will show you a great way to do it. For those of us who want to make practical quilts relatively quickly, this is NOT the method. It isn't hard, just very detailed, and clearly requires a design wall big enough to fit the whole quilt at once.

tolles buch
