Dependable Performance Meets Durability
After upgrading my desktop PC with the Western Digital 1TB WD Blue internal hard drive, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in both performance and reliability. Installation was straightforward, and the drive was up and running within minutes, which is a big plus for someone who isn’t very tech-savvy. Performance: The 7200 RPM speed and the 64 MB cache make this hard drive quite responsive. I primarily use my PC for office applications and browsing the web, and I must say, the drive handles these tasks effortlessly without any lag. Durability: The no-touch ramp load technology that Western Digital boasts about really seems to make a difference. I’ve had to relocate my PC a couple of times since the installation, and it's comforting to know that the drive is designed to withstand such moves without risking damage to the drive’s recording head or media. Compatibility: I was initially concerned about compatibility issues, but the hard drive worked seamlessly with my Windows 10 system. It’s reassuring to know that this drive has been tested across a multitude of systems and platforms. Energy Efficiency: Another feature that stands out is the advanced power management. It's good to see that my PC isn’t using excessive power, which should help with electricity costs in the long run. Conclusion: If you're looking for a reliable hard drive that offers good performance and energy efficiency, the Western Digital 1TB WD Blue is an excellent choice. It’s suited for anyone who needs a dependable storage solution without the complications of a difficult setup or compatibility issues. Highly recommended!

Western Digital Blue Drives Provide Excellent Value and Performance With a Two Year Warranty
I was torn between the Blue, Red, and Blacks. Having always unhesitatingly gone for the WD Black, this time I already had SSD storage to provide fast, immediate storage. Did I really need to spend the extra cash on the WD Black line over the Blue? I decided to do some research. First, the RPM speeds. Red spin slower, somewhere around 5400 while the Blues and Blacks do 7200rpm. This makes sense. The Reds are meant to go in NAS enclosures which means possibly a few (1-8) disks in close proximity. The slower speeds generate less heat -- which matters more since there are multiple drives and not just a single drive -- which helps improve disk conditions and longevity. The Blues and Blacks are meant to go in Desktops. The Blacks have a 5 year warranty whereas these Blue only have a 2 year warranty (3 year with the Retail kit). The WD Black perform better than the WD Blue line, but not by much. If you don't already have an SSD and only need one main drive, pick a WD Black. To be honest, the main difference is the warranties previously mentioned. The extra cost of the Black ensures you won't have to buy another drive for 3 extra years. Personally, I figured I could afford to spend the cost of another WD Blue should it fail after 2 years, so the extra warranty period for the WD Black was not a factor for me. The last thing which helped me pick the Blue line was a Western Digital document which specifically stated that both the Black and Blue drives are fine in Desktop RAID setups -- Intel RST, LSI HBAs, etc -- they just aren't recommended for NAS/Enterprise RAID setups. I was worried about TLER (lack there of) and the shorter warranty period but when I realized they could both be put in a RAID setup, the difference between these drives became a non-factor. That said, I haven't yet turned my drives into a RAID array and am using them in JBOD -- Just a Bunch of Disks -- mode, meaning I'm using them much as most people would. I can honestly say there isn't a noticeable difference on the user experience side of things on the difference between the WD Black and the WD Blue. I highly doubt a user that claims he could blindly tell the difference between the drives.

Nice Hard Drive, but 10 Year Old Manufacturing Date
I plan to use this WD Blue 1TB hard drive for backing up my main SSD drive with popular cloning software. I also have other SSDs which I use for the same purpose, but thought I'd also purchase this for the same use, as the price was very reasonable. The cloning process went well, except for the amount of time required compared to a SSD which was expected. This is an OEM drive, thus it doesn't come with what normally comes with a "retail" boxed drive, including SATA cable, mounting screws, instructions, etc. Since I've been building and assembling PCs for over 40 years, a retail drive is superfluous to my needs. Of course, a retail drive typically comes with a longer warranty than an OEM drive. Here's the reason why I deleted one star from the review... This drive was manufactured on January 11, 2015, thus it's over 10 years old! New, and never used... yes, but still old. And, frankly, I was very surprised by this. Drive quality seems fine, quiet, and ease of installation was a breeze as I'm using it with an external SATA dock only for back ups. I just wish I had known the drive was going to be this old in terms of manufacturing date, thus it's far, far out-of-warranty even upon receipt.

Drive is good, proved to be fail-safe and efficient. Mine arrived from third-party seller not being entirely new (it was removed from server/nas/etc) and repacked. 1TB version is definitely more reliable. Though I can't recommend Amazon delivery as they surely throw it dozen times on the floor and it will be packed into cheap cardboard and a plastic bag, which definitely doesn't increase drive lifespan.

Sadly, these things are no longer as available as they used to be. They represent some of the best technology of our time, known for their durability and reliability. While they may not meet the speed requirements for modern tasks due to more demanding Windows versions and fast SSDs, they can still serve as affordable backup drives for PCs, NAS devices and CCTV DVR/NVRs. These WD drives last a good 8 to 8 years, depending on usage.
