Drakulon, Lilith, Belial, O My!
[VAMPIRELLA MASTER SERIES Volume 8 - 2013 - Dynamite Publications TPB]As there's a complete absence of information about this TPB here on Amazon and several sites I've researched, I thought I'd share what I now know with you potential buyers and aficionados of this supremely sexy, supernatural siren, who's impacted our lives, libidos and reading habits for almost 45 years. This compilation collects the remarkable re-evaluation of Vampi's origins and the muddled mythos of her past from the 'Revelations' series, issues #0-3. It helps bridge the gap of her initial origin on her birthplace dying planet Drakulon from the early Warren days to the later held theory that she was the first pure offspring of Lilith, a scorned bride of Lucifer and mother of all demons after being cast from the Garden of Eden, and then we find that Drakulon was a suburb of Hell in the first place and poor Vampi was given false memories when Lilith asked her to kill her siblings to bring redemption to her mother Lilith. But was momma really seeking atonement? Or something far more sinister at the sake of her daughter's sanity? Still with me? 'Didn't think so, that's why this story is elucidating to the more than casual fan of this fanged femme fatale. It solidifies past and present theories without etching them in stone, making for a more cohesive whole rather than random pieces in a convoluted puzzle. Then we are also treated to the 'Vengeance of Vampirella' saga which rose from the ashes of 'Revelations' and reunites Vampi with Adam Van Helsing and the nefarious Blood Red Queen of Hearts from the 'Vampirella Quarterly: Spring, Summer and Fall 2007' (a three issue story arc), another great read with depth and intensity not always found in other quarterlies. The reproductions are brilliant in color, the artwork superb, and variant cover collection - there are cover galleries to both influential storylines drawn by Mike Lilly, Stephen Segovia and Noah Salonga, featuring covers by Joe Jusko, D.M. Beck, Salonga, Nicola Scott, Mark Texeira, Tom Fleming, Dan Horne - the cream of the crop. There's also some storyboards and sketches, as if we needed more. The last thing, and it's an important one when considering price and purchasing, is that Amazon lists the pagecount at 88, and I couldn't be happier to inform you that it's closer to 160, so there's more bang for your buck than initially imagined.Great stories, fantastic and vibrant art, cover galleries and the magnanimous Vampirella - let me ask you something - why are you still reading this and not hitting `Buy It Now'?5 Vamped stars.
