Review: USEFUL BOOK - This is a useful guide for grief counsellors, pastors or even to give as a gift to family or friends! Review: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND - I can't exactly say the book topic was "enjoyable" or that it was purchased as a "pleasure read" but I DID and DO find some comfort in it... Having said goodbye to my dearly loved Mom not even two months ago due to cancer, I found myself wishing as I read, that I'd found the book BEFORE this painful but necessary journey started. It would have been so helpful for myself and my family! However I guess it wasn't meant to be until now. Reading this book felt like a conversation with a trusted friend. It felt almost as if we'd had a conversation on a difficult painful topic and afterwards I found support in the fact we'd talked and shared a hug. The book is simple, practical and easily read in one sitting --although I will likely go back for a reread because of the understanding it brought and the validation that what I experienced was a part of life, normal and inevitable. Thanks Katie Duncan for an informative and meaningful book!

Great refresher.
Im a hospice RN, This book is a great refresher all nurses should read! I only docked a star because the later half of the book was more on finances and whatnot. I found it simple and helpful how easy it was to follow along, I also took notes and highlighted the important aspects, mostly in how to explain how or why certain things happen during end of life, for example the nausea, agitation, or even hallucinations.

Great book preparing families for a loved one's death.
As a hospice chaplain, I was looking for the perfect book for me to use with patients families to alert them to what's ahead. This book is fabulous, usable for all faiths and presented in a loving way. I've just ordered more.

Concise and Comforting
My wife of more than fifty years died of colon cancer nine months ago. I wish I had known about this book while I cared for her during her illness. However; "The Process of Dying "was a great comfort to me even after her death because it confirmed that, although I didn't get everything "right" (no one does) I didn't get everything wrong either. As example, the author points out that forcing or bothering a dying person to eat is not a good idea. In the case of my wife, I only provided food when and if she asked for it. Also, I experienced great guilt because I was not with her when she died. Katie Duncan's book helped me to realize that this is not at all unusual because the exact time of death can be very unpredictable. I think that readers will find this book helpful not only during the time of caring for a loved one, but as a reflection or "looking back" at their individual experiences.

Lovely book about transitioning to the Great Unknown
I loved this book! It's very clear about the end-of-life processes, how to manage symptoms, and self-care for the caregiver.

A lovely short book saying all it needed to
Death is never discussed in the way it should be. There is so much fear about it we often can't bring ourselves to even think about it. This in turn makes it worse when the time comes

Excellent Encouraging Practical
This book should be read by anyone caring for a dying person. It's for people of all beliefs. The book is short with lots of practical advice from how to moisten lips to what to do when your loved one takes his/her last breath. I particularly appreciated the suggestion to appoint a spokesperson (see one of the quotes below). The author is extremely qualified and experienced. Excellent! Some quotes: We learn to see death and dying as a tragic failure, which it is not. Rather, it is simply a part of our life’s journey. It is a part of our story. And it is our mortality that makes our lives precious, treasured, and meaningful. To help prevent burnout, delegate a spokesperson, someone who will communicate to others on your behalf and the only person you will need to keep informed. This person may be a close friend, another family member, or someone you trust. Feel encouraged to direct everyone to this dedicated spokesperson from the start of your loved one’s end-of-life journey. Release the pressure of this responsibility. Giving your loved one your permission to die is perhaps the most beautiful gift you could ever give them. Treasure this knowledge deep in your heart as you permit them to leave this physical world, and launch them with love and grace into the realms of the unknown.
