Maigret Se Trompe (Ldp Simenon) (French Edition)

This is a Maigret classic concerning the murder of a young French prostitute. Maigret's morning at home is interrupted with a phone call by a detective Depeu.Can he come to an address in France?A cleaning woman, also a former prostitute, has found her client murdered.Another challenge for Maigret in Paris with all of the sultry mid-century background. I'm reading with my 28-year-old French tutor, and we are both enjoying it.

I bought this to help my self-directed French learning - I like to read, and so much of the French reading targeted for students is, well, either childish or boring. Maigret se trompe is neither of those things - but it IS over my head, with plenty of unfamiliar tenses, and phrases that do not translate literally. So I bought the English translation (Maigret's Mistake), and read them side by side. This strategy worked well for me - I learned a lot about how French phrasing works - plus I was motivated to keep reading by the "who-done-it" murder mystery.

This is a great book for students studying French because it is very easy to understand. I've read three other books by Simenon but this one is 90% dialog and the vocabulary is not difficult for intermediate level students.

The Maigret series is a great way to improve your French. They are for students at the intermediate level. Although I don't like to read police procedurals in English, I actually have a difficult time putting the Simenon books down.

For a life-long learning French class. Like the Kindle version where translation is immediately available.

Always a good book for reading classes

Maigret et c'est enquetes, il y a toujours du suspense, simenon a de la creativite dans ces roman, a lire.

Un critique littéraire (Antony Palou dans le Figaro) écrivait il y a quelques semaine qu'il agit" d'un des meilleur de la série" Que demander de plus à Simenon grand amateur de Bordeaux et de belles de nuit, une par soir, chaque soir et toujours différentes...
