I would not recommend this book
The book has a lot of material that isn't close to what is taught in a class. On top of that, it also focuses on a lot of the minute details of stuff that isn't tested on. Many of the items that this covers just aren't relevant to what they need to know. For example, the book has questions regarding diseases that have minimal relevance to the course. You will spend more time learning very specific things that you have seen for the first time in the book instead of the important major concepts. As a teacher that has taught this subject for many years, I would not recommend this book. The only thing that is wrong with this book and the thing it was supposed to do right is test and review over relevant concepts and information.

Contains Detailed Explanations of Multiple-Choice Answers, Valuable Grading Guides for Free-Response Questions
This 5 STEPS TO A 5: AP BIOLOGY 2018 exam prep guide is organized around the four “big ideas”, or concepts, of biology as identified by the College Board. These are evolution, cellular processes, genetics and informational transfer, and interactions. All of the questions on the AP Biology exam are linked to at least one of these big ideas.Because this is an exam that awards college course credit, the review material (pages 37-260, taking up most of the guide) is quite daunting. It includes technical terms you must know (defined in the guide), and requires math. Of course, the guide is intended for use alongside a year- or semester-long high school course in AP Biology. Each book in the McGraw-Hill “5 Steps” series is organized around the following five steps: (1) set up a study program using the online site; (2) take a diagnostic test printed in the book to determine your test readiness; (3) develop successful strategies for answering multiple-choice, short-answer, and essay questions; (4) review the specific subject-matter material you are expected to know for the particular AP exam; and (5) take full-length practice tests with questions similar to actual exam questions to build your confidence and testing skills. The books are issued annually, so be sure to check for the latest edition before you buy--the AP exams may have some format changes from year to year. The 2018 AP Biology guide includes five practice exams (2 in the book, 3 online). A valuable feature is the online dashboard that tracks your progress and performance. It shows your strengths and weaknesses by question categories, and your scores and percentile ranking compared to other students. The dashboard figures are based on your answers to practice questions and exams.Another extremely valuable feature is found in the practice exams. The answers contain detailed explanations of the correct answers to the multiple-choice questions, and provide grading outlines for the free-response questions that tell you how many points you’ll receive for mentioning specific things. If you are taking the AP exam to secure college credit, then this guide should give you everything you need to get a high score.

Well organized
"5 Steps to a 5: AP Biology 2018" by Mark Anestis and Kellie Ploeger Cox is a multi-platform test prep guide. In this case, the review is for the book but there is additional preparatory information online.I like this series because of the way the books are organized. For this subject, the authors do a good job of continuing the quality of organization. The reader is advised on the focus of the exam, then how to plan strategy in study; then a diagnostic exam to gauge where one is at; then it goes into the topics chapter by chapter and then there is another practice exam. There is an answer key as well as a glossary. The book is not meant to take the place of classroom learning but it is a great resource to supplement classroom learning as well as test preparation.

5 Steps to a 5: AP Biology 2018
One of my kids will be taking AP Biology next year so when this book was available for review I chose it. Biology class comes very easy to her already, but I want her to get the highest grade she can get. I have a degree in Biology (years ago) and just thumbing through this book it's amazing what I have forgotten and stuff I didn't even learn back then. Since you can "Look Inside!" you can see the plethora of topics included in this book. I especially like the section on getting prepared for test-taking. That was always a problem for me since I would get so nervous when taking a test. You can't go wrong with this book if you or your child is wanting to take an AP biology class.

Nicely done
This is just what you would hope and expect from this type of material: everything you need to prepare for and then take the AP Biology test. From preparing for a test to being ready for the type of questions/exam material, this is key for making the test as easy and non-stressful as possible. I have a daughter who would like to become a doctor. I chose this to give her an idea of what to begin to study for in the future and the types of topics that will aid her in that endeavor. We both found so much of this book to be useful, even beyond just Biology with so much about how best to prepare for test taking.
