takes time to prep it right, but worth it.
I ordered this mattress protector for my boyfreind who had a run-in with bedbugs a few years ago and is still a bit paranoid about it. He had just purchased a new queen sized pillow top mattress a couple months prior, and I figured this would be a good time to protect it and a chance to give him some extra peace of mind. To be clear, about the time this came in, we found what we think was a loner bedbug in or close to maturity, and I had gotten a few bites over the course of a week while staying there and sleeping on the new bed. Between these protectors (I bought one for the boxsprings and one for the mattress), a heat gun, and copious amounts of Diatemacious Earth (spelling? It's a fine dust of super small sharp particles that essentially cut into insects' joints and bodies, killing them), the bug was never seen again. I would highly recommend the dust to anyone fighting bugs, in conjunction with these covers.I would recommend opening the package and examining the seams - all of them, including the zipper - and look over the fabric for any defects. There were several reviews that complained about loose stitching or tears. These are made in huge factories on machines at a ridiculous pace - sometimes things get a little out of line at that kind of speed and scale, so it never hurts to check. Ours were both great. Also, some complained about the 'chemical' or 'plastic' smell. They are a bit strong, but running them through the washer and dryer first, as suggested on the package, takes care of that. We washed the two covers together, with nothing else. Initially, we left them zipped to avoid damage to the fine coil of the zipper, but in hindsight, I would say lust leave it unzipped all the way. When it came to the spin cycle, the closed zippers and the water resistance of the covers created giant flappy water balloons that kept throwing the washer out of balance. We unzipped them to release the water and it was all fine. They will take a ridiculous amount of time to dry. Just keep the heat low, be patient, and take them out to rearrange them in the dryer again to help them dry evenly. Some reviewers wrote about their covers melting or becoming brittle form drying - because they turned the heat too high. Just chill. You had to wait for the thing to ship to your house, waiting a couple hours with the dryer isn't gonna hurt you.We put them both on easily with two people, but with some patience and gracefullness, a single person may be able to do it. Having two people makes it easier to prevent tears in the cover after installing, while moving the mattress back into place.I gifted a protector for boxsprings and a mattress to my boyfriend for his new bed 4 months ago. He had a run in with bed bugs a few years that left him mildly traumatized. If you want a guaranteed rant, just ask him about it - On second thought, don't go there. We don't even go there. But, back to the covers....I read a lot of reviews - mostly great, and several pretty bad - before purchasing. We had no problems with either of our covers. Here's what we looked out for based on the negative reviews (and common sense):- Check all seams for rips, loose stitches, and the like, one seam at a time so you don't miss anything.- Check over the fabric...all of it...for any rips, snagged threads, holes, or the like. Do this right out of the package so you can use the crease linesto help track your progress.- Run your covers through the washer with a bit of soap to neutralize the 'chemical' smell. Unzip it all the way to prevent the formation of a giantflappy water balloon that with try to strangle the agitator as your washer jumps about like a wild rodeo bull (yep, this happened). Unzip it all the way to preventdamage from the zipper getting pulled open, in case the two sides try to go opposite directions.- CHECK THE HEAT SETTING ON YOUR DRYER - Turn it down so you don't risk melting any of the synthetic materials. If it feels like you'retaking a ridiculous amount of time to run it through and you're starting to feel like you're worrying too much, then YOU"RE DOING IT RIGHT!Take it out and fluff it and flip it around to help it dry evenly and (slightly) faster. I think we ran our covers through, like, 4 dryer cycles....- Have two people to help put it on. It goes fairly easy and quick with a bit of teamwork and a plan, and will help prevent potential snags or rips from tugging. We slipped the cover over one end and slid it into place, then zipped one side before laying it down. We than lifted the zipped side up so we could straighten out the bottom of the cover in order to zip up the other end. Laid it down once more to zip the last side, and put the mattress/boxspring in place.- Be careful with the zipper. Gently tug your fabric into place so that the two sides of the zipper are close to each other and aligned. The zipper is small and fine so it can create a good bug barrier... Be nice to it, and it should zip just fine. Ours did have a couple "sticky patches" where it didn't quite want to zip. Just gently tug and coax the zipper pull, or unzip a ways and try again. If frustrated, walk away. It's not worth potentially busting that zipper after all the time and money you've spent on it thus far.- If you already have bedbugs, understand that this cover is not some magical kryptonite that eradicates bugs by simply existing in the same room. It can only kill bugs trapped inside, on an already affected mattress by trapping them in there until they starve (about a year or something crazy). Diatemacious (sp?) Earth will kill any bug it comes in contact with. Try using this in conjunction with your covers.

Love
Got a new mattress and immediately ordered this to put on. I love that it's not that plastic crap that feels like you're on a hospital bed. The weave is tight and this fit easily over the mattress. The disappearing zipper is a design feature I really like. No one can tell or feel that this is on our mattress. It is waterproof but I still like to put a waterproof topper over it bc I have 2 dogs. All of us are allergic to dust mites and our Dr. Recommended mattress covers. This one all of us really like and feel that it does protect and keep allergens down.

Excellent mattress protector
I bought a new full size mattress and wanted to protect it from dust mites and possible spills. I have bought this protector before, and loved it! It is easier to install if you have two people doing it, but can be done by just one person. I find it's easier to lay it on the mattress zipped up then unzip it and slide to the top of the mattress sliding half under the mattress while sliding the other half over the top of the mattress pull the lower half, under the mattress gently, while simultaneously gently pulling the top half then zip up and adjust as needed. There is a waterproof, terry cloth top and the rest is a durable material. It is very quiet when moving when trying to sleep. Some reviews state there was an odor upon opening the package. Neither of the covers we have purchased had any odor. However, if you do have an odor the cover is washable and dryable (low heat). It takes a while to dry though, but be patient. The zipper is tucked and hidden so it won't snag on anything. I definitely recommend this mattress protector

Easy for one person to handle the fitting
This mattress cover was easy for me to slide over an 8-in foam mattress. This is the second one I purchased. The first one worked well, and this one works well too. No bed bugs allowed!!

Does the Job Again
This is the third time I ordered this cover for a new bed. Well-made, durable, fully enclosed, and quiet (I put the terry cloth side up). I'll keep buying them for these reasons if the price continues to be right.

good product
I had trouble trying to find the zipper. Once I found it, the product worked really well. Some instructions would help, but overall it is a good product.

Great product!
Easy to put on the mattress. Zipper is so well encased I struggled to find it!. I don’t know it’s on the mattress, no crinkly sounds whenMoving around in bed. Only complaint is it was NOT in an Amazon package, delivered in the manufacturers package.

no odor, works great
I was so worried this product will have some odor like other users commented. Even when I first open it, I didn't smell anything. It fits well. I didn't notice my son's allergy symptoms improv much though.

Did not fit our mattress - was not what we were looking for, better out there.
We have a standard mattress - spring/coil twin size. It's not a memory foam, it's not thin, it's a basic mattress and width, height, etc.We had another brand of recommended allergen (recommended by the doctor our child sees for allergies) barrier mattress protector. It did not zip all the way around actually - it was just one that fit on top of the mattress and well over the sides to underneath - good elasticity. It just wore out over time, because we washed it often. But we had it for years. It is no longer available through the supplier we bought it from so I ordered this one, and figured it would be great as it zips completely over the mattress.I can't really attest to the long term use of it - as it did not fit our mattress properly and just didn't seem to work well. The fitted sheet we use didn't fit well over it and with our bed (a loft bed) it just didn't really work out.It was also no where as durable (fabric wise) as the other fabric we were used to - this one felt thinner, and my son was sniffling the next day. We tried for a few days, running the air purifier and it didn't make any difference.Thankfully Amazon allowed us to return it. Just did not work out for us. My son's skin gets bad if he's suffering from his allergies and it was bad. This might be very effective for bed bugs I don't know. Our allergy doctor said we don't need the full encasement for allergies (dust mites) so I think I'll go back to finding a thicker one that doesn't cover the whole mattress. The shifting around and ill fitting cover (I get it has to fit various sizes) just didn't work here.
