Best Quality and Durability
Over the past too many years, I have burned up my share of regular electric knives while filleting a bucket of pan fish. A few weeks ago, it happened again on the third fish of a bucket full of bass and bluegills. After an hour of re-adjusting and re-learning how to fillet the "Old" way, I decided to look at an electric knife designed specifically for this task. One that might be able to stand up to the endurance demands of long run times and heat dissipation created from running the knife no-stop for extended periods of time. Rapala has a long standing track record of quality fillet knives, so why not stay with a solid proven company? I have used this knife several times now and it handles Great. The bigger cooling fan is designed to keep the motor cool during long run times. The blades are more aggressive and the motor speed is much faster than the "Thanksgiving" turkey carvers. Great value and Quality. Thanks RAPALA!

These knives are some of the best out there
I do a lot of fish cleaning. These knives are some of the best out there. I have tried several other brands and these hold up the best and fast cutting. What I have found when electric knives seem to not cut very well any more is there is a little plastic part that the motor moves that causes the reciprocating motion of the blades. When the knives is new the pin that attaches it to the motor is a tight fit, but after a time this pin wears the hole in the plastic to more of an oblong shape. When this happens the reciprocating action of the blades gets shorter. The shorter strokes causes a much slower cutting rate. That's why electric knives get to a point were they do not cut very well any more. I think the manufacturer knows this. This knives has held up best to this sort of break down. Yes I have tore down many to just find out what has failed.Follow up: 2020 : Myself and my friends use this knife almost on a daily bases. It still does an excellent job. Yes I have replaced it , but only after thousands of fish. I see others have had some problems, but for me it has held up and performed excellent.

Great filet knife
After using this I won't go back to a standard filet knife. Works great and is very sharp. You need to be careful because it will cut through the spine. Once you get the feel it makes quick work of filleting fish. I used this on bass and crappie. Only negative is it sometimes difficult to remove the blades.

Great electric knife
I didn't buy this knife to fillet fish but rather to cut up steaks/meats we buy for our dog into bite size piece. It works fantastic! The only negative is the blades on mine are way too difficult to pull out so I use an oversized fork to remove them. I capture the two blades between the tines of an over sized fork at the blade position just where the blades exit the hand piece. Then press the blade release and pry up on the blade removal holds, that are fixed to each blade, while keeping the fork against the body of the hand piece. They easily come out.

Favorite!
This is my husband’s favorite fish filleting knife. He uses it each time we catch walleye. The bigger the fish, the heavier the bones. This knife holds up to job of both large and small fish fillet cleaning needs. The blades flex just the perfect amount needed so little loss of meat happens when he cuts each side of the fish off of the bones and then passes between the skin and meat. The blade sharpness holds up for cleaning many fish, too! Great product!

I HAVE THE POWER!
I first had two of Rapala smaller units, and they worked ok, but the too small motor would get hot and the I had to wear a glove on my knife hand to keep from burning it. This unit has so much more power and the handle does not get hot in my hand. It powers through the ribs of the largest walleyes! I just ordered and received another one the other day ... repeat customer! Throwing out the smaller one used for skinning. I tried another brand a friend brought over last weekend to clean our fish, did not have the power this unit has. Excellent value for the price! Maybe you don't mind spending $200 to clean fish, but I do ... this does the job at a fair price.

It feels like an electric hand tool from the 1970's and I ...
After much research for a quality electric filet knife, I chose this Rapala.Out of the box, the first thing that struck me was the heftiness of the knife. It feels like an electric hand tool from the 1970's and I mean that in a good way. The wiring and windings of this knife must be of a very high quality to feel so weighty in one's hand...Now to the performance: I've only cleaned 2 dozen panfish so far, but the knife has performed great. The blades are very sharp yet they "flex" enough for you to peel the filet right down to the skin of the fish. Clean up was very easy also, as the blades pop right out of the knife for washing. If and when I need new blades, I'll just order them.
