Following the amazing success story of Vashti Bunyan's recent re-emerging as an artist after an exile of over 30 years come the release of SOME THINGS JUST STICK IN YOUR MIND, a comprehensive collection of early recordings from the period prior to her classic 1970 JUST ANOTHER DIAMOND DAY album. Titled after the (Jagger/Richards-penned) debut single which opens the double album, SOME THINGS attempts to both draw a line under the past and also to set the record straight regarding the disparity between how Bunyan viewed (and still views) herself and the way the public views her as an artist. While she is widely regarded as a folk singer - a tag with which she fundamentally disagrees - these recordings instead reveal Bunyan as a pop singer, however fragile and unique. Review: You are enchanting; your songs are so intimate they feel like personal conversations between two close friends...a siren's song! - I'm sad that I missed you for 40 years...what beauty there is in your voice!! I fell in love right away...a siren's song. Do "Bees Dream of Flowers..."? Now I'm searching for any songs you recorded or participated in. Vashti Bunyan...you are enchanting; your songs are so intimate they feel like personal conversations between two close friends (or two lovers). I feel I've found a secret garden. Review: Vashti-Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind - FINALLY! Highly recommended collection of the mid-60's Vashti masterpieces-I had only heard the 45 that was officially out-the amazingly ULTRA Andrew Loog Oldham constructed/Jagger-Richard written (Mick did some percussion on this as well) Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind/flip...this collection has it all-including demos recently unearthed by Vashti and available to the world...Vashti is her own artist, so I don't want to make comparisons-but if I had to-and you're not familiar with her compostions-she has many parallels to Marianne Faithfull's Decca/London era and the early to mid-60's Francois Hardy...I HIGHLY recommend this-love her voice and style...great packaging also-like a mini-album...

My current favorite CD
Despite the vintage of these recordings, Vashti Bunyan is a fresh voice. The "Train Song" is especially appealing, and was used recently in a TV commercial, which is where I first heard her sing. If you were a fan of folk rock in the 60's, you would probably put this CD on the same shelf as Simon and Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, and Judy Collins.

Never heard it before but I feel like I have
This recording truly captures the essence of the 60's-- not merely because the lyrics are so of the time, but also because of the way the recording crackles and Vashti Bunyan's beautiful voice wavers. Much like when I saw the 2009 movie Adventureland and thought "this is my favorite movie from the 80's, only I never actually saw it in the 80's," this recording seems so familiar even though it is new to me. I expect to see a Wes Anderson movie with any number of her songs (Winter is Blue?) because they so completely evoke a time and place.

One of the best CD’s I have purchased. The music is fresh and not rehearsed.

Arrived damaged! Bad packaging!!!!
Great album but the thin cardboard packaging got bent and destroyed the top of the album cover. I like displaying my albums so I wasn’t too happy about that. Ship your vinyl in thicker cardboard Amazon!

A brilliant record -- how most of these beguiling tracks were never released at the time is a mystery! I guess the right people just didn't take her work seriously—maybe it was just too subtle. Throughout, Vashti comes across as a sort of English Françoise Hardy. Some of the songs -- in particular the superb I'd Like to Walk Around in Your Mind and Winter Is Blue—have inventive, sensitive arrangements. One listen to them and you'll be hooked. Most of the tracks, however, are home demos that feature Vashti solo on guitar, charmingly introducing the title of each track, so that you really feel you're in the room. Quite different -- more straightforwardly melodic, more direct -- than her later folky output [which is also great in a different way], this is essential for anyone with affection for great 60s pop music.

This artist demonstrates remarkable talent. The accompanying audio quality is exceptional, and the pressing is superb. Vashti Bunyan is recognized as a highly distinctive and influential folk artist from the 1960s. The absence of this sonic aesthetic represents a significant loss for independent music.
