When Someone You Love Has Died: Talking to Young Children About Death
S**
A must have for families who have dealt with or experiencing the loss of a loved one!
As an educator and someone who has also experienced the loss of a loved one, My Mother I found this book to have so many amazing aspects to it. From the detailed pictures to the language which is so child friendly. This book allows children to understand the concept of loss on their own terms. Death at any age is a very personal and difficult subject to discuss. Especially, for children at such a young age. This book opens the door to so many ways that an adult can have these conversations with children. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase and LOVE the positive message it represents for such a difficult topic! It’s a MUST read!

For younger readers, 5 years to 7 years.
I bought this for a 9 year old and it was too young for her. Good for younger readers, 5 to 7 years old.

Excellent
Very thoughtfully done. It is a great book for children about grief. One thing that surprised me is this book rhymes, making it that much more appealing to children.

Beautiful illustrations
This is a nice introduction to death and funerals. The main character's expression shows her quietly observing what's going on around her which is very easy to relate to. The illustrations show adults as well as her crying (which is a healthy emotional response that I appreciate seeing). The language is easy to follow and explain to kiddos while reading. It's a good book to open the conversation about the death of a loved one.

Great for Older Kids
I was recommended this book, but my daughter is three - this book went a little over her head and the story is more for older kids and to help them understand loss and grief. It will help her later, but not currently! Its a great book!

Sad but true
My grandkids lost their father September 11th 2023 their all young & having trouble understanding death. Their mother has them in therapy but I wanted to find something to help so I bought this book for them & I believe it has helped especially the 5 year old to understand death a little better. This book is written so children can understand & it covers so many of the questions they were asking. The price was good & well worth the money

An excellent resource for a family when there is a death in the family.
The story was well written, and told with empathy and warmth. I really loved the illustrations. It matched the mood of the story and most importantly, extended on the words written.A highlight for me was at the end of the story. I liked that the author made a note to parents about the book and the topic of deatb. Very thoughtful, educational and supportive.

A story about grief
I wish this book had been around a few years ago when my kids were younger. It's a sweet story that tells children about what happens when someone close to them dies. It looks at the facts of that person not being around any more, visitors, and a funeral, and some ideas on how to deal with grief. At the end, there are notes for parents to help them through.A lovely story that is sure to help families navigate grief.
