Spigen Ultra Hybrid for iPhone Xs/X Case, Crystal Clear

First off let me say I am a hater of cases, so much so that I’ve always played Russian Roulette with my iPhones every time I took them out of my pocket. I was planning on doing this with my iPhone X since I purchased AppleCare for the phone. Everyone who owns this phone needs to realize that if you break the back glass on this phone, the repair cost is over $500 from Apple! Even with AppleCare, the cost climbs to $99 if you break that precious back glass. This alone made me reluctantly shopping for a case. I came upon this case after hours of researching the different cases available for the iPhone X. I was looking for a minimalist design that afforded enough protection while not intruding on the elegant beauty of this phone. I found that with this case. The one thing you will find about the iPhone X is it is slipperier the previous iPhones. I always felt like I was going to drop it if I did not have a firm grasp on the phone. The new stainless steel case along with the seamless edges from the glass to the case just makes this phone feel like it’s going to slide out of your hand every time you handle it. All of that is eliminated when you put the case on the phone. This case fits so well around every corner and button of the iPhone that you literally think it was manufactured by Apple at the factory as part of the phone. The crystal clear case actually accents the beauty of the stainless steel edges of my phone. My phone no longer feel slippery, while the minimalist design still makes it easy to slide it in and out of my pocket. There is enough material on the edges of this case, that I’m confident if I dropped it in a parking lot, I would not suffer any damage to the phone. You might scratch the case, but that’s about all. There’s a lot of peace of mind knowing you’re replacing a $13 case instead of incurring Apples insane repair costs! You can see the air cushion technology built into the corners of the phone case. They are unintrusive little air pockets. Think of them as tiny air pillows! As this review comes from a person who absolutely hates phone cases, I am now a believer in this one. I actually would buy it even if I was not worried about dropping and breaking the phone. Yes, it is that good! The phone actually looks and feels better with it on! Plus, the peace of mind it affords me is indispensable.

I rarely write reviews so you should really read this one as I really love this product. For only about $13 you get the following: 1. Protection: Minimalistic design that doesn’t sacrifice protection for looks, the former being the most important factor when buying a case. I feel confident that this case will protect my phone in case of a regular accident (3-4 feet drop) 2. Looks: Looks great. I got the transparent one and can see the beauty of the iPhone X with the case on. I can even see the coolness of the stainless steel sides of the phone. Also, the words “designed in Irvine California Made in South Korea” imprint on the right side of the case looks good in my opinion. 3. Volume and Side Buttons: The volume buttons and the side button feel great to the touch. Sure, not as good as the touch without the case, but it’s still not unpleasant. You know what I mean? 4. Protection (again): I’ve dropped my 3 year old iPhone 6s many times with this brand’s case. Never has the glass on the screen shattered or even gotten a crack. Granted, this version being reviewed for the iPhone X has to be proven as protective given that the iPhone X also has glass in the back of the phone. So I guess I’ll update this post after dropping my iPhone X for the first time 5: Feeeeel: I knew that buying this case would make my experience with the iPhone X better. The iPhone X is an incredibly slippery phone. I had to be very careful while handling the phone X while waiting for the case to be delivered to my house. As soon as I put it on I was able to really enjoy using my iPhone X Cheers!

I buy a lot of phone cases. For different reasons. For me, it is finding one that can take a few drops. Good ones. Like on cement stairs. But I don’t want anything like an Otterbox or something that you have to encase with multiple pieces. I want it to be light. I want it completely clear. I want it to look like glass, but feel like rubber because I need a certain grip. Unfortunately I am on the phone too much. That’s another issue. I have an iPhone X and my phone gets dropped from time to time. It happens. We all know what that situation feels like: you are opening your car door, keys or purse or wallet or groceries everywhere, things are going on, it’s Tuesday, and you drop it. And time stands still as you calculate the potential cost of what fate could soon bring. Did you buy a cheap case? What is cheap? Am I feeling lucky? This case was tested twice. By accident. Right off the bat, you can see and feel the quality of the case. Full disclosure, I use this company’s (Spigen) magnetic phone case holder that simply consists of a powerful magnet that slides between vent slots and a flat piece of metal that you stick to the back of your phone case. I love that product because it actually works. That’s another review I will do if it helps anyone. I spent a lot of money on junk on here. It happens. It’s not like I am getting ripped off by hundreds, but through the years I have bought plenty. And shatterproof glass screen protectors, which you also have to have to compliment your case. If you aren’t going to put a good screen protector on your phone, don’t waste money on this case or any other. My opinion. But it is based on having lots of experiece. Like 2 teenagers. I invest in quality screen protectors and it has paid off. This review of this case includes the fact that I had an excellent screen protector on my phone as well as this case. I didn’t have the case for more than 30 hours before two good tests. The first drop was the classic too much crap in my hands at the mailbox straight up drop on cement. It was dropped from approximately 5 feet. Wind conditions were normal. Visibility was clear and there was a fairly significant amount of humidity which is normal for Miami. Picked up my phone already convincing myself it was cracked. It’s an unpleasant experience to say the least. The result? No damage. Nothing. Nada. The second drop was me running to my truck in the rain. It was pouring and I was waiting for the rain to let up before making a break for it. No pun intended. I started but immediately realized I wasn’t going to make it without getting soaked and ran a few steps back and slipped just a little. Just enough to grab the rail hard with my phone in my hand. Pretty good impact on the rail and then immediately it was dropped. About 3 ft. Nothing. No damage whatsoever. I love this case. It’s light weight and firm. You can tell by the quality of the areas that cover the volume controls, etc. because they are very responsive and line up exactly. Clear. The drops were a result of my clumsiness and decisions and not a result of grip. This is in no way slick or glass like. I have a case that I love that works wth little magnets and it creates air pockets and other cool stuff. But it is slippery. It’s curved too. You cannot use a slippery case even if it is the coolest case and it could under the right circumstances change your life. You can’t. So if you are getting away with that right now, a slippery phone, you should quit while you are ahead. I am really happy with this case. If you want to get into details about what they claim is “air cushioned technology” you can check the specs. What I notice is all 4 corners widen slightly to absorb impact and the molding on the bottom outside raises slightly at all corners to prevent full impact if dropped flat. I am going to get a few more for this price. They are good gifts. Especially for people who break their phone a lot and you pick up the bill. Buy.

No bs discounts for reviews here, I just appreciate honest reviews from people because I put a lot of weight into those before I buy something. So here ya go. Clarity/Appearance: Case is nice and clear, I wanted to show off the back of my pretty new iphone and the stainless steel rim- this is one of the few cases that is entirely clear (as opposed to some others with frosted or black rims). The cutouts are accurate. With any clear plastic though, it does show your gross oily fingerprints. But maybe you'll clean the case more often and get that nasty bathroom germ party off it then? Writing on the side: Something I don't like and almost returned it for is the "Designed in Irvine California made in South Korea" engraved along the right rim of the case. Bad taste, ruins that nice clear edge that makes the case so valuable. Get that crap off of there. Protection: Hard TPU on the back with rubberish bumper along the rim. Comes up above the screen enough that dropping the phone face down will give you slightly less of a heart attack than cases with no screen lip. That's another reason I went with this case. I don't give this 5 stars yet for the bumper writing but also because I haven't dropped the thing yet to test the protection. I think it will hold up well so long as i don't launch it screen first into a blunt object, but that won't be the case's fault then. Bulk: Probably the slimmest but still protective case you'll find. Adds some weight and about a half cm of bulk on each side, but feels adequate for cushioning falls. I hate bulky otter box cases, but did consider them for my $1K device that I really don't want to break. This one appears protective enough. Fit: Saw some people complaining about this but I had no problem, fits well. Price: Can't beat it, and it's decent quality for the ~$10 you'll shell out. I've bought many o' ebay cases for $3 that were terrible quality. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the heft of this plastic for the money. Overall: Working well for me after a week of use. Shows off the gorgeous design we all fell in love with, which aside from protection, was my goal. Haven't given 'er a good drop yet, but I'm fairly confident it should hold up to your typical waist height drop. Wouldn't throw the thing against a wall though- you'll need something more intense for that aggressive lifestyle. If you can deal with the ugly writing on the right rim, give it a try.

I purchased the completely clear, IPhone X case about six months ago and have dropped my phone plenty of times. Not a scratch on my phone and the case still looks pretty good. If you want something sleek and fairly stable that still shows off the design of your actual phone, this is a great case to consider. I work in an office environment, but have taken this everywhere I go, including camping. If you want a case that you can take to battle, this may not be enough protection. But, for the typical civilian user, I have no complaints. I will say that after six months of CONSTANT use and abuse, I am choosing to order the same case as a replacement. It has been dropped enough times that I am worried about having a case that was dropped “one-too-many” times. Plus, it looks to have started to yellow (just slightly) around the edges. Because it’s a clear case, it does have some very fine surface scratches that only I notice. But, I know they are there. On top of that, it’s fairly inexpensive, so it’s not like I am dropping much money purchasing a new case for purely aesthetic reasons. One reviewer noted that lint sometimes enters through the bottom holes on the case (open speakers and cable port), which is true. But that is a phone design issue (bc it happens without the case on the phone, too). I wouldn’t say it’s been a big deal. When I have noticed any lint starting to collect, I just blow in the holes I truly don’t believe this is an issue unique to this case. Any case with open vents is going to deal with specs of lint that enter open holes when you shove it in and out of your pocket all the time. I highly recommend this phone case. I’ve looked and cannot find something as durable or attractive. For me, this is the next best thing to a naked phone.

I don’t usually take the time to write a review, but since I was ordering another case for my X, I figured I’d leave one. I’ve been using Spigen since my iPhone 5s days and I’ve never strayed since. I’ve gotten my immediate family using it too and since then we’ve never had a cracked phone or screen. Spigen is the only case I trust to protect my phone when I drop it...and believe me, I drop it all the time. When I purchase my X, I immediately purchased this case because I didn’t want to risk breaking such an expensive phone and it hasn’t failed me yet. This case has just the right amount of lip over the phone so that it protects my phone if I drop it face down. The same goes with the camera on the back. The design of the case retains its minimalistic look which is great because no matter how much I want to protect my phone, I would never put it in one of those bulky otter boxes or other cases. The only issue that makes me sad is that the clear case does even become discolored after time probably due to exposure to light. I don’t leave my phone sitting in the sun, but all the side edges of these clear cases even turn a rust/brown color within a year of use. But that’s a small issue to deal with and usually when that happens I just order another case.

Not only is this one of the most affordable cases out there, but it's design and performance is outstanding. After dropping significant $ for an iPhone X, getting a case that preserves the thin sleek design was a priority. I looked at Apple and nothing at the time was of interest. All too large, not to mention over priced. Then to Amazon where I purchased two cases; One from Speck at $38 (known solid products); the other being this case from Spigen. I figure for $12, I can't go wrong. And WOW this case is awesome. Crystal clear, just grippy enough around the side and top edges, and little to no bulk. The X feels and looks almost like an X without the case. All the required protect features - softer rubber edges, display side perimeter is raised, button operation as good or better than the bare phone, and clever backside corner design that just raises the corners with a radiused ridge. Only question I have is how durable the polished clear polycarb on the back will be over time. But lets face it, for $12 I guess I could just replace it if it gets to scuffed up!! Performance wise, I have not attempted to test the limits, but based upon 10 yrs of iphone usage I have no doubts about adequate protection for the iPhone X from this case.

I don’t know what it is about this cheap, simple little case, but it is so amazingly resilient! I drop my phone multiple times on the daily. I bought two of this case a couple years ago, using it for a year and then replacing it with the same one a year later. I have dropped my phone probably three times a day during that two year period, so about two thousand drops in all! My phone is still working and looking amazing. One day I had taken the case off to clean my phone and dropped it without the case on, and boom, shattered screen. Just goes to show how awesome this case was at protecting my phone. Luckily I had Apple Care and my phone has been with me another year. I’m about to purchase another one of these cases, as I like to replace them once a year (not totally necessary), and I wanted to drop a review recommending this product to all my fellow klutzes out there! No fancy, giant case necessary—this one does the trick. I didn’t receive any kind of compensation for this review, nor did the company prompt me to write it. Just a satisfied customer!

Es muy resistente y ligera, protege muy bien al celular sin quitarle estética. Después de un tiempo se empieza a poner amarilla, pero es normal por la manipulación diaria. He comprado tres veces la misma y en promedio me duran 1 año cada una, hasta que decido cambiarla por el color amarillo, pero nunca se ha roto.

Fast delivery and great quality. Was a bit hard to peel the protective lining off of the inside of the case, but once that was off the case is perfect for protecting your phone without taking away from the phone design. This is my third Spigen phone case, and I have never had an issue with any of them, the only reason I buy new ones is when I get a new phone. They are the company that I think of first when I get a new phone as I know they are good quality yet they don't cost a fortune.

UPDATED: FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I DROPPED MY IPHONE X FROM 1.2m/4ft UPDATED: 14th February 2018. SECOND DROP!!! Last night, (13th Feb 2018) I dropped my phone using the classic "put it in an inside pocket, miss the pocket and watch it drop!" This always happens when I use my motorbike jackets with liners in. The slit in the liner isn't attached to the actual pocket, leaving a gap. The phone fell from chest height, I'm 6ft (183cm) so it must have been 5ft/1.5m. As I caught the end of my phone falling onto the pavement and landing face down, I was expecting at least a scratch on the glass and the edge of the case. On close inspection there is nothing, no damage at all. Isn't that remarkable? If you're still debating whether you should buy this case, then what more proof do you need? Unfortunately, today, 1st Feb 2018, I dropped my brand new iPhone X. It wasn't even a week old! As with most of my drops, they've been getting in and out of cars and on and off motorbikes. Today was no different. As I was closing my car door, I somehow managed to drop my new phone onto asphalt/tarmac in a shop car park. The phone landed face down (YIKES!!) and bounced underneath my car so it was completely hidden from view! Imagine the colourful language that ensued as I watched my phone bite the dust, allegorically! Fortunately, a passing lady picked it up for me, since after major surgery I can't bend....See swearing can be useful sometimes! Yeah, yeah, yeah, get on with it, "what happened to your phone?" I hear you ask. NOTHING. Though having said that at the time I didn't have time for a close inspection or deep scrutinising of said phone, but it did look OK. When I got home I removed the phone from the case and there isn't a mark anywhere on my phone! Additionally, it would be expected that the case would have taken a bashing and got scratched up. However, the case is TOTALLY UNSCATHED too!! I was expecting some impact damage or at very least some scratching on the case, but it's still in perfect condition. THERE YOU HAVE IT. IGNORE SPIGEN'S DROP TESTING. DOTTORE HAS DROP TESTED HIS IPHONE X FROM 1.5m ONTO ASPHALT/TARMAC AND THIS CASE PASSED WITH 10 STARS OUT OF 5!!! ================ ORIGINAL REVIEW Initial impressions are that this a great case for such a small outlay. I have to get something of my chest first before I continue with this review. Why do people spend £1000 on a phone but then put it in a cr@ppy case? People spend less than £100 to protect their very expensive case and it makes no sense to me. Then they go on and moan on Amazon reviews how poor the product was. What do you expect for a tenner or a fiver? Now I've got that of my chest I will firstly tell you why I have spent £8.99 on a case....It's a temporary solution until my hand made leather case arrives from Spain. You can buy Piel Frama cases on Amazon, but if you want a custom one you have to go direct to the manufacturer. Now, on with the review. As usual, Amazon Prime proves valuable, with yet another "Free" (actually inclusive not free) delivery. The case arrived less than 14 hours after ordering. Well done! The case itself feels nicer than a Tech 21 clear case that I used as a temporary case on my iPhone 7 Plus. That was OK, but the Spigen Ultra Hybrid feels like a whole level up. Firstly, the Spigen case comes wrapped in three layers of protection. The first layer is the card box, then comes an opaque plastic bag, finally there are two plastic films to be removed. The first plastic film is on the outer rear of the case and the second, is on the inner of the case where your phone's back will rest. This for me tells me that the manufacturer wants the case to be in A1 condition when you receive it. Considering my Tech 21 case (for my old iPhone 7) cost 3 times as much the Spigen puts it to shame. The removal of the films is a little fiddly and there is a worry that you might scratch the surface with your nails. However, I'm quite kack-handed and I managed to get them off without damaging the case. The case fits snuggly on my phone looking almost like a second skin. There is no gap between the back of the case and the back of the device. Others have mentioned scratching on the silver bezel after time. However, I've only had the case on for 3 hours and have no intention of removing it before my nice premium case arrives. I think that the scratches reported may be due to constant removing and re-installing, but that's only an unproven opinion. The phone looks magnificent in this clear case. I gave my phone a good cleaning with a good quality microfibre glass cleaning cloth before I put the case on. I also cleaned the inside of the case. The overall effect is a very good looking case/iPhone X combination. The actual iPhone X is very slippery and definitely needs a case. The Spigen Ultra Hybrid Clear Case gives excellent grip. I don't know how much protection it will afford my phone, but I think it'll be adequate if I'm careful, which I normally am! At this point in time, that is more or less on first installation, I would highly recommend this case. Now, I am going to say something about the iPhone X since I am not allowed to leave a review since I got mine from my network provider, (hopefully this will not be bounced by Amazon!) The iPhone X has had a lot of hype and I upgraded on an early upgrade plan because the deal was too good to turn down. A small part of me wasn't really bothered about having a shiny new phone. I've been with my provider for over 10 years and have multiple devices, so I always have the latest iPhone available. However, with my iPhone 7 Plus, I started to think that there isn't much more that you can achieve with the current technology. This means that there would only be incremental improvements in devices from now on. So I am not as excited about the iPhone X as I have been with getting my first iPhone 6 Plus. In terms of looks, the iPhone X looks like a 3 GS mated with an iPhone 4. So we have the nice curved (Chrome on mine) bezel from the iPhone 3GS and the glass back of the iPhone 4. Thus it's hard to get excited about the looks of the case because we've seen it all before. Frankly, I think the best case form factor was the original iPhone/3/3GS with the nice curved back which snuggled in your hand. These new iPhone form factors from 6 onwards, are very slippery and definitely need some form of case. This is essentially a design flaw because the "naked" iPhones always look expensive and well designed, so it's always a shame to hide them away. It's early days yet as far as the lack of a home button goes.I don't really think this will pose a problem in the longer term. What is a bigger problem is a lack of instructions on how to operate the iPhone X with the new gestures. They flash up once, or not at all, then you're stuffed! Last night after I finally remembered my encrypted back up password, I had 20 Apps open and didn't know how to close them! In the end, I had to go on a Mac fan website. This isn't good enough. Why was there no online manual as they've done in the past? I searched iBooks and now, 3 months after launch there still isn't a manual available? I think it's Apple maximising profits. Producing an online manual costs money, like the printed manual they used to supply. Now they demo and inform the review websites and tech journalists and they effectively do Apple's job for them. Face ID....I know that's what you want to know about. I must admit it's pretty cool, if almost magical, how the phone unlocks. It's so unobtrusive that you have to double check it's happened. Of course, this is not new technology using a sensor array that fires beams of individual light at the object/face. Microsoft did it with the Kinect Sensor in the Xbox 360, many moons ago. However, this implementation is very accurate and refined. When I woke up at 0500hrs this morning, in the dark, my phone unlocked at first attempt. They say that the algorithm adapts for glasses, hats, hairstyles and ageing. I have unlocked the phone with neat hair, and bedhead hair (and believe me my hair is wild in the morning!) It's also unlocked with my glasses on and off. I also used it for Apple Pay twice yesterday. The first time was surreal, the second time was simple and much quicker (in terms of the communication between phone and reader) than my old Touch ID 7 Plus. Thus, as far as Face ID goes, it is an improvement. My wife, son and myself have had hours of fun doing funny messages on animoji messaging. It's not exactly a reason to buy this phone, but it's great fun. The super duper pooper OLED Retina screen doesn't seem any better than my old iPhone Retina Screen. My wife still has an iPhone 7 Plus, so I should really compare them, but it hasn't really knocked me back with improvement. The form factor which as everyone knows buy now, allows more screen space than a Plus, in form factor smaller (in height) than a Plus, and not much bigger than the regular size. However, whilst this is true, the width is smaller, and just like the Japanese cars which are precariously over the centre of gravity, the iPhone X doesn't look right. This is because of the height to width ratio looks abnormal. One of the nice things about an iPad is the fact that you can (almost) fit an A4 document in portrait orientation. On the iPhone X, the screen doesn't feel right or comfortable to look at. This impacts the size of the keyboard when typing in portrait. It does however, feel easier to hold than a 7 Plus! The screen isn't a reason to upgrade. There don't seem to be many good quality apps at present which can take advantage of its features. I'm sure this will change over time, as much as I am certain that the iPhone 8 will be the last iPhone with a Home Button (maybe 8S might survive). An iPhone 8 Plus with no home button would be something to get excited about, but I'm still not excited by owning this phone. I have yet to try the camera, but I think it'll be the same high quality that I'm used to. In short, I don't think anyone upgrades unless they're due an upgrade, but if you buy your phone outright, wait until the next iteration comes out!
