Hiking through Life takes mental Fortitude…
Thank you Phil for your honest and humorous adventure. It takes mental fortitude to hike the AT and you definitely shared how easily someone can lose patience with the process when challenged or hungry or tired or all 3!!! The ability to focus on the goal in the long game requires breaking down the goal into smaller tasks consistently. Using your recovery tools really helped you embrace constraints, practice self-compassion and remain mindful. So many life lessons are taught when we are challenged and for you to put yourself in a position which challenges you everyday for 189 days is commendable. To write about it all is even more admirable… You are resilient. I also know that spot where you took a wrong turn heading to Madison Hut on the Gulfside trail!!! Those cairns are not big enough when it’s foggy!!!

A great story about a life-changing experience
The book is a wonderful account of the author rising to meet the physical, mental and spiritual challenges of hiking the trail. I really enjoyed this honest, descriptive and funny story. I didn’t know what to expect but the writing about the relationships between hikers forged or abandoned were a bonus. Whether you want to attempt it or not you’ll appreciate what it takes!

Phil manages to tell the story of two journeys, recovery and the AT. What a great book!
The book is very well written. I read a lot and this is one of the best books I have read this year. I would highly recommend it for people interested in learning about through hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT) and also people interested in the journey of recovery. Phil brings to life the arduous journey of undertaking the AT in parallel with the journey of recovery. Both are not solo journeys and Phill shows how we walk with others on such journeys. Both journeys include families who support our dreams and are deeply grounded in spirituality. Even if you are not in recovery and even if you are not considering a through hike of the AT, this is a worthy read. We all have dreams, and we all have pragmatic considerations that can challenge us in following our dreams. Phil shows us what it means to take on a dream and in ways challenges us to do the same. If you have a dream journey, read this book and continue forward!

Loved it!
I bought Continue for my daughter who hiked her first 10 miles on the Appalachian Trail this summer. I had seen a friend's post about the book on Facebook, so I ordered it as a gift. I ended up reading it myself! The author shared fascinating and often humorous details of an AT through hike. I had no idea it is often such an intensely challenging physical, emotional and spiritual experience. I enjoyed getting to know the hikers that became the author's "crew" as well the stories about others encountered on the AT. I found the book life affirming.

Thought-provoking and fun!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story made me feel like I was an important part of the author’s ‘trail family’ and I was on an epic adventure right alongside all of them. The character’s were funny, interesting and caring and I fell in love with so many of them. I didn’t want the adventure to end! I found myself wondering what my trail name would be and if I could survive the Appalachian Trail. Hmmm… maybe one day? This book inspired me to break out of my comfort zone - it’s time to adventure again! If the author can do it with cancer and so many other things stacked against him, I can too! I highly recommend this book.

Amazing story of faith, commitment and adventure.
Although this is a great read from an adventure story standpoint alone of what it is like to thru hike the Appalachian Trail and the physical and emotional struggles that are inherent in such an undertaking it's the rest of the story that had me going cover to cover in two days. From surviving stage 4 cancer and committing to the journey after a higher power challenge, Phil uses all he has learned in years of recovery to get through the challenges he faces over 189 days on the AT. So well written it's like being there with him. Great read!

To Continue is tough sometimes
I found Phil's experiences both inspiring and eerily similar to the internal and sometimes external challenge of moving onward after losing my son to fentanyl poisoning.I turn to my gratitude for God's love as my fuel to Continue.Thank You Phil! Well done💜

RECOVERY MATTERS ONE DAY AT A TIME
I have never read any books about the AT trail, but my Dad had a friend who hiked it both ways at one time!Little did I know until reading Phils story. This book is for anyone who wants to understand the day to day life on the AT. Makes you realize how arduous and how all of your inner being is required. Recovery shows STEPS to a wonderful life. The Journey and beyond the destination. Leaving the dinner table and setting out. Having God incidences and miracles along the way. Phil IS a very good fisherman BTW. Shortcast.
