This is a good alarm system that overall I'm v happy with. Installation was a piece of cake and done within an hour. Works as a standalone alarm without any additional payment. Downside is that to be able to make full use of the functionality on the app a subscription is required costing upwards of £15 a month. There is a cheaper option for recording footage only which is c.£5 a month.

I was impressed by everything I read with the Simplisafe system and wanted some protection for doors, windows, outside security camera etc, so purchased one of the packs. Setup was indeed simple, the whole thing was done in less than 2 hours including mounting the outside camera. All good. I wasn't ever really going to sign up to the professional plans at £20.00 per month but decided on taking the £4.99 deal for recording on inside and outside camera. So, onto the cameras and this is where my challenges begun. The Simplicam internal camera SHOULD operate with a privacy shutter. When system is OFF or HOME the privacy shutter should close, when system is AWAY and armed privacy shutter should open. But NO, I noticed the privacy shutter was open with the system off and home. All motion detected whilst at home was notifying me and being recorded. Surely this isn't right. You should also note the Simplicam does not get added to the Keypad and can only be controlled from the App which is limited unless you take the pro plan. I called Simplisafe the next day and explained what was happening. The initial troubleshooting consisted of me resetting, removing then reinstalling the Simplicam. Same problem and the supervisor was called. The answer came back that because I do not have a Pro plan I need to manually control the shutter from the Keypad - well that's not possible because the Simplicam does not add as a device to the Keypad, ah ok let me go talk to Supervisor again. Finally the response was yes, you cannot get the privacy shutter to act AS IT SHOULD without paying for a Pro subscription. If I pay for a subscription the camera will act expected, without that it will not do what it states in their own documentation as follows: "If the camera is paired with a SimpliSafe security system, the shutter will by default be closed in Home mode and when the system is Off. It will be open in Away mode while streaming video and under certain other circumstances. These defaults can be changed in the camera settings in the mobile app." The helper acknowledges this is a bug that they're trying to fix, but magically it will be fixed if I pay the money. She offered me a free month to test the plan, I declined I do not want any sort of pro plan, an alarm and camera recording is all I need. The Simplicam is now disconnected from the system and unplugged, this has left a bit of a bitter taste, and undecided whether to just pack the whole thing up and send it back or live without the Simplicam. The system is nice and simple to setup, but beware of the privacy shutter if you don't take their pro plan.

Simple and easy to install, option to sign up for a additional support but no long term commitment. Only gripe is that the outside camera is affixed in such a way that outside my front door (a flat) it could easily be pulled down or the even stolen. Otherwise I’m very happy with it. One feature I’d like is an option to open the front door but still have the camera on so if there was a problem it is being recorded.

Good combination of safety devices to keep your home safe

I purchased this as we were burgled the same week but ignored all the reviews stating the cameras are bad, unresponsive and disconnect regularly. Our Internet connection are very fast and stable and the cameras are WORSE than even the reviews state. Both cameras just randomly lose connection all the time and the quality of the picture is poor, both were highlighted on reviews but thought I knew better. Return process took 2 months as all the gear goes back to Simplisafe and without going into detail was a mess with 3 customer service live chats newded. Avoid the hassle of the return process and look at alternatives.
