does the pressure coming through the filtered tap reduce when cartridge runs out only this has happened to me and am not sure if its a faulty tap

Hi, I appreciate this answer is somewhat delayed by 7 years! Yes your pressure will reduce eventually as the filter nears the end of its useful period. Imagine how much water goes through the filter and it essentially catches the elements that make water hard, eventually that filter will get clogged up and this will mean the water will not flow as fast as the filter is clogged and not clean like day one. Depending on your water hardness eg london and birmingham, the filter can last longer in birmingham as the water is not as hard and may last several months well beyond the 90 days recommended hence why the people who replied have not seen a loss in pressure, whereas london water is harder therefore it will clog up quicker. Also depending on how much water you use will affect the life of the filter. Brita pretty much quote averages like others as you can not take everything easily into consideration to get an exact expected life cycle. Hope this helps someone.

How to i release the present cartridge from black housing.  i do not have a valve tube.  have pressed valve button.  no joy.

Turn the blue handles at the side of the cartridge head until they stop. Push or slide the flush valve button (this may release some water out of the grey tube so we recommend having a cup or cloth handy). Once these steps have been followed you should be able to pull the cartridge out. If the cartridge is difficult to remove we recommend placing a flat-head screwdriver between the cartridge and cartridge head and this will help you lever it off. - BRITACare

Are pictorial instructions on the packaging in the correct order?

Yes. Just remember to turn the tap on the filter housing off. Then it just slots (hopefully) into place. I just purchased my second replacement cartridge and it changed over with no problem.
