Works great!
I use this for pistol shooting competitions. As I have gotten older my eyes don’t focus close up, so it makes my front sight look blurry. If I wear glasses to help me focus on the front sight I can’t shoot with my red dot pistols because that makes it impossible to see past the dot to the target. With this, I can clip it to my baseball cap brim and flip it up and down when needed.

This actually should be 0 stars out of 5.
This item was ordered and returned three times. Each time the magnifying power was wrong. In trying to contact the original company, it no longer exists.

Using on cap for flyfishing
Much nicer unit than the big one that folds down for both eyes and works well with Sunglasses

Innovative Optical Solution For My Outdoor Activities
PROBLEM: I dislike bifocals and progressives, so I own several pair of single-vision glasses for different activities -- reading, computer, distance -- as well as prescription sunglasses. My distance prescriptions leave me with pretty weak up-close vision during outdoor activities, and especially in the early mornings or as the sun goes down I pretty much can't see up close as I rig my fly fishing gear. I've just learned to live with it. Sometimes I'll bring a second pair of glasses for up-close work that I will temporarily switch out, but I'm always concerned about scratching or dropping very expensive glasses into the river as I make the switch. I've experimented with some hat brim mounted magnifiers that actually work, but they are NOT subtle and make me look like the poor Junior High kid wearing orthodontic head gear.SOLUTION: The SportSpec uses a clever twist on the old monocle concept to provide temporary optical assistance for up-close vision enhancement, but instead of wearing the monocle dangling on a lanyard in a vest pocket like an English gentleman, the monocle is mounted under your hat brim for instant flip-down access. The lens is quick and easy to position and holds itself in place during use, and when you're done you just flip it back up under your hat brim and back to near invisibility. Only requires a couple of fingers to flip into position and is completely hands-free during use. It's about as minimal and subtle a solution as you could hope for, and it works VERY well. The design genius of the magnetic hinge cannot be overstated. Its fluid action allows for full articulation, and yet it is surprisingly stable in maintaining your selected lens position while in use. It also allows you to instantly detach the lens from the mounting clip for quick cleaning or to return the lens to its protective storage pouch. Magnetic re-attachment is just as easy. Very clever!About the only suggestion for improvement is that the mounting clip holds a bit TOO well to my hat brim and is difficult to remove when I want to fully detach the SportSpec with mounting clip for storage. A clip design that allows for easier removal would be appreciated.Overall, I'm very impressed with the ingenious design and utility of this clever little niche product. My in-the-field vision dilemma is SOLVED. Thank you, SportSpec!

Poor magnifying with 2.0
Tried 2.0 version to thread tippet on size 20 fly. Don’t waste your money. Many other flip cap magnifiers available with better magnification for flies smaller than size 18. Giving 2 stars for the idea but returned unit. Amazon was only offering 1.5 and 2.0 versions.

Very helpful. Stays clipped on.
It stays on hat, magnification is clear. Flips up easily.

Not so Sporty
I fished with and loved this item twice. The third time i scratched the lens right down the middle so bad i can't even use them to tie a hook. I guess by sport they meant just golf and only if you store your hat in the locker at the country club. For the other 99% of us, this thing is a terrible design. First off, the maneuver mechanism is just a magnetic ball allowing the lens to pivot. This means it can come off while the clip stays intact. Also the lens is glass and not even a scratch resistant one. I can scratch it permanently with my fingernail. (I only tried this after they were ruined.) I don't even know what happened to mine to cause the initial scratch.
