Amanda Seyfried stars in this biopic based on the life of the eponymous '70s porn star. A year after an unplanned pregnancy forces her to move back into her parents Florida home, 19-year-old Linda Boreman (Seyfried) falls under the spell of manipulative local bar owner Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard), and ends up marrying him shortly after. Traynor, however, quick to exploit an opportunity, soon produces a private film of Linda performing various sex acts that comes to the attention of porn director Gerry Damiano (Hank Azaria). Liking what he sees, the director immediately casts her, now under her new stage name of Linda Lovelace, in his latest release, 'Deep Throat'. But although the film becomes the most successful porn movie in history, Linda soon realises that she has become a pawn in the game, as she begins to suffer increasingly violent abuse and exploitation at the hands of her husband.

A tale of survival.
In "Lovelace", Amanda Seyfried plays the star of "Deep Throat", the most famous blue movie of all time, a wonder of its time: the first fully scripted pornographic feature film shown in the theatres and claiming to gross $600m.Having been a poster girl for icon for an era of sexual liberation, Linda Lovelace wrote in her autobiography that she was forced into making pornography at gun point, being regularly threatened and beaten by her then husband, played by Peter Sarsgaard (and oh dear, can he play a psychopath!).Seyfried said the project was the riskiest thing that she did and could had ruined her career. But I thought the film was excellently done, it felt like a good drama, a nail-biting thriller, and it even had Mr Big in it (ladies, you get my reference). And, for such a difficult and controversial subject, the film is surprisingly watchable, catching on the empathy and compassion of the viewer - I certainly felt for Ms Lovelace. Seyfried blossoms on screen portraying a complex character.Despite a somewhat weak ending, I still give the film 5 stars.P.S. I almost missed Sharon Stone in there! I guess my attention was compromised as I was watching Amanda Seyfried, who gives an extraordinary performance!

excellent biopic
Excellent bio pic showing the true story [ maybe ] of Linda Lovelace . Loved all the 70s detail [ as a Boogie nights fan this is heaven for me ] and great to see an American movie that isn't aimed at a teenage audience . Excellent performances from Amanda Seyfried , Peter Sarsgaard and Sharon Stone [ yes it was her ! ]. maybe I felt a little cheated by the white wash ending [ which didn't really show the whole truth about Linda and her character ] . Still a great attempt at the time when the world loved porn . Watch along side The look of love and Call girl for my favourite films of the year .

Based on a true story, this film has merits beyond the norm & can clear up some hazy/murky points.

Lovelace.
From what I know of the life of Linda Lovelace, this biopic provides a fairly even-handed telling of her brief and troubled career as a pornstar. The film cleverly portrays two versions of her story leaving the viewer to make up their mind which parts to believe – it is all told from Lovelace`s viewpoint and the narrative is sympathetic towards her regardless; that she was abused by her husband and exploited to an extent by the porn industry of the time is not in doubt, but the narrative leaves out her exploitation by the anti-pornography movement and her participation in films before the infamous “Deep Throat” that made her name.Sayfried is excellent in the lead role, as is Sarsgaard as her sleazy husband; the film is well-cast and it captures the seedy, ambiguously darker nature of the porn industry of the period.A good, if not great film; there is only one extra on the DVD – a 13 minute “making of” documentary that doesn`t add much to the film.It does have subtitles in English, though you may have to adjust your screen settings to see them properly.
