Silverline Combination Stopcock Key 970mm (MS135)

Always a good idea to have a stopcock key for the mains stopcock located outside your property in case of failure of internal house stopcock. This is good value for money and does the job, the added benefit of the key removal for your cover plate is a great idea. Check that this is the right type for your outside stopcock first, I have a water meter installed outside and this is perfect.

Delighted. Good sturdy Stopcock key with the handle having a flat side so you can lift the cover with it and turn off the stopcock with the other end. Good value, currently at £15.49 - it was an Amazon's choice one and I can see why - highly recommend this.

I am getting old and arthritic and some time ago I discovered I could not turn off my stop taps (yes my house has two for some reason) so I installed those "switches" along side them to make it easy to stop the water. Anyhow I needed to change a tap washer the other day and went to turn the water off and one of the switches was not working. Fortunately a young neighbour came to my assistance and got the old stop tap off for me. But the experience left me feeling I needed a "street key" to turn the water off to my house at the pavement, so I purchased this key. I have tried it and it works well. I now feel easier in my mind that if there is a water emergency I have the means to solve it myself, despite my age!

We’re in the process of fitting a new kitchen and realised that we’d need to be able to turn the water off in the street, in order to tidy up the plumbing under the kitchen sink and fit new cabinets. When we lifted the cover, in the pavement, there was nothing but sandy soil and road stone! After much digging, we finally revealed the stopcock at about 75cm down. This tool was just the job and will turn a ‘t-bar’ type stopcock with no issues. It’s worth noting that it will not turn the older style square headed valves… pre 1980s houses? The description mentions that the product is 1000mm long, but it is in fact 970mm, with the handle portion measuring 925mm. The radius across the key is approximately 22mm at the top, widening out to about 32mm at the bottom, thus allowing you to turn various sized stopcocks. The key appears to be fairly well made from approximately 10mm steel rod and 5mm plate steel on the key. The welds are good it’s finished in a semi-gloss bright blue paint, which will scratch with regular use, but this shouldn’t be an issue for the homeowner. I will certainly keep it handy, especially for any plumbing emergencies!

Stop cocks! Under the kitchen units and too stiff to move. This strong, light alloy key will sit under the kitchen unit until I need it. It's quite long but that doesn't stop you from hooking it onto the stop tap and giving it a turn. The tap moves a lot easier when your not at full stretch under the kitchen unit, - trying to turn a stubborn tap with the ends of two fingers. We had a slight flood after an electrician dislodged some plumbing and we didn't know until the wood flooring started bubbling up two days later (couldn't prove it). It was then you realise you need to turn the stop cock off by lying on the wet floor. This key is an insurance policy and I hope I'll never need it. My Wife and Mum couldn't turn the tap off if they were on their own so it's a good thing to have and for that reason I got one for my Dad too who had the same worry. I should have bought it for him at Xmas. Better than socks.

Must be honest and admit, I did choose this pretty much on price alone. As use would be very rare, the expensive ones were ruled out. The indoor stop cock became hard to turn years ago, and now has long passed the point where I'd risk putting that much force on it. This bit-of-kit is a very robust and well made tool that shuts off the water outside easily, so not risking problems indoors. My only regret is not buying one many, many years ago. At last I have been able to carry out minor plumbing jobs inside, without worrying. This really is a 'Must-have' for any home!

Not really suitable for modern stopcocks in Scotland where small valve straight stopcock fitted. Had to reduce width of key.
