Superlux HD668B Headphones

Extremely good headphones for the price. Sound is nice and clear, no distortion or other problems. This is my second pair, where I gave my second one as a gift. The detachable cable is great and should be on more headphones. Be noted that the headphones leak sound and that you can hear everything around you. This is the nature of open back headphones, and not the fault of these headphones. The only things I do not like are that the head-band pad things are not great. They only have a limited amount of play, so if your head is on the larger side, they might not sit as comfortably. The overall construction is plastic and feels a bit flimsy, but I never had anything break over the 4 years I had them. The thin coated bands running along the top have cracked in some places, but that is only cosmetic damage. The ear-pads are very nice and soft at the start, but after having the headphones for about 4 years, they became quite hard; but not uncomfortable.

First of all, these are great headphones for a budget, or if you want to find out the hype behind "audiophile" equipment like I did then this is a good gateway. These headphones by no means are real audiophile equipment, or particularly amazing at anything. They have a V-shaped sound signature which means they excel at music with highs in, but music which keeps in the mids is really not that great. They have a good amount of bass for open back headphones and at the volume I usually listen at they do not leak too much, though these are not headphones you should be wearing outside really. Overall I would say the sound is quite good after burning them in, when you consider the price, they are cheap but hit above their price really, just if you really want some good headphones be prepared to spend much more. Their build quality, to say the least, is bad. While I have no gripes with the nearly all plastic build, as they have not broken after almost a year of use, they are mostly plastic and their feel is just cheap. A lot of people replace the earpads that come too because the pleather material is not very good but I have not had as much issue with sweating or clammyness so it just depends on the person. They clamp quite hard depending on your head size but I have not had issue since day 1 using these, though the head rest 'wings' still are not exactly the most comfortable things in the world and I would recommend that you bend them back. They have a removeable cable which is a big plus if you are worried about a pet chewing through them, I didn't really factor this when buying them as I won't break it with abuse from bringing them out (I only use IEM's outside, and wouldn't wear these in public) but it's nice that you can do this as even on very high end equipment you don't always find it. I use these mainly for just listening to stuff on my computer which mainly centers around gaming, music and videos. They work fine for this and are good enough for that, because they're open back sound positioning in games is very good so I can recommend them for that, they work much better than most much more expensive "Gaming" headphones when paired with an external microphone. (Note: I never ran these through a proper DAC or AMP, I do not know how well these benefit from them but I doubt too much difference) In conclusion, I can definitely recommend these headphones, they have a nice V shaped sound which meets my music preferences and don't lose too much detail. In gaming they are ideal when paired with a cheap microphone as a budget solution versus a gaming headset. Get these if you want a decent sounding pair of cans with plenty of mods available, if you aren't on a budget look elsewhere at other real audiophile grade gear, you won't regret it when you hear the difference.

It's been several hours since I first received these pair of headphones, and here I am with a first impressions sort of review. Build quality 3/5: I'll say these are decent for what you're paying for. These pair of headphones are made of some sort of plastic that doesn't exactly scream 'Reliability,' but they do seem to apparently do the job of holding the thing together. Time will tell whether the build quality will hold up, so I'll update in a year or 2 to see how they're doing... assuming they don't break before then. Sound Quality 4/5: Although it doesn't quite reach ATH-M50X's level, the HD668Bs are pretty much one of the best bang for the buck headphones that money can buy. For £38 the sound quality you are getting is an absolute steal for the price, and although some may say that the highs are a bit 'too defined' and too harsh, it's nothing a bit of equaliser software (or even equalising hardware) can't handle. Most computers today may already have their own equalising software, mine for example is the Realtek Audio Manager. Tweak a few settings, adjust how you want to hear the sound, and the result is a very pair of lovely sounding headphones. I'll be honest however, there's still a bit of a sharp edge even with equalisation, but I'll say that I doubt you'll be able to notice it unless you're an audiophile. Comfort 4/5: Usually I wear these headphones for 3-4 hours at a time and I'll have to say that they are truly very comfortable when you adjust the height of the headphones as well as the 'head rest' (those Audio-Technica esque wings). Yes, they are slightly adjustable, but I am very concerned whether the build quality will hold up with several height adjustments. You'll need quite a bit of force to adjust these headphones to suit you, and that's where I seem to doubt whether the quality of plastic used is sufficient enough for the lifespan of these headphones. The size of the cushions however, are very large, and although they're not made of the most spongy foam, they are quite soft to the touch and I can definitely say that these really do engulf your ears in soft leathery goodness. Whether it's real or fake doesn't concern me, but they do feel good on the skin even after 3-4 durations. I personally have large ears with abnormally large anti-helixes, so they're the part of the ear that receives most of the discomfort when it connects with the cushioned driver. These aren't exactly the deepest headphones on the market, but they are fairly deep for most people and is usually not an issue with the other people I have asked to try these on. The most important issue however, with me personally, is how my earlobes are squashed into my face when putting these on. Although not a concern to some people, I'll have to say that it's been a bit painful to me after longer durations. Overall, if you take sufficient breaks in between headphone sessions then I doubt you'll receive any discomfort with using these. Maybe take regular 10 minute breaks every hour or 2. Price 5/5: This is exactly the main reason why I bought them. I wanted a cheaper alternative to other major headphone brands such as Audio Technica, Sennheiser, Philips etc, and the HD668Bs stood out of the crowd with its amazing balance of sound quality, comfort, etc at an affordable price. Have I mentioned that it also includes a detachable cable? Although not truly detachable from the base of the headphones, rather, there's a sort of cord that extends outwards with a female end that you plug another cord into. It's still a detachable cable and therefore you reap the benefits of one, Including but not limited to: replacing the cord if it deteriorates or is accidentally damaged. Overall 4/5: These are a pair of fantastic headphones that I'd absolutely recommend to family and friends. The sound quality is absolutely astonishing when considering its £38 price tag (at the time of writing this review) and simple equalisation merely just spices things up to your taste. If you have a very low headphone budget but you still have standards, then these are the headphones to get.

There are better headphones out there, but you absolutely cannot get better headphones than these for the price so I'm quite comfortable giving it the full 5/5 rating and full recommendation. These are semi-open(as opposed to closed or fully open), but the distinction between these and fully open headphones is negligible, quite honestly. Definitely consider these open headphones, just with a bit less sound leakage. And despite that lessened sound leakage, these are not short on sound stage whatsoever. Superb for gaming especially. Sound quality is also surprisingly good. Being open-backed, they will never be for bassheads or even close, but they do still have sizeable 50mm drivers that deliver satisfying and balanced low frequency response that is better than many other others in the open-backed space. The mid range is strong and clear. The one weakness is the higher highs that can be a tad harsh. EQ can sort this out quite well, but not everybody is in a position to use an EQ, so it's still worth mentioning. But that really is the only 'knock' I can give to these in terms of sound. Sound quality overall is very respectable and you wont find better without venturing into the £100+ category, and even then there are honestly some I'd put these above. At 56ohms, they're not super hard to drive, but a bit of extra amplification does help. The construction and feel of them is pretty cheap. You can tell this is how they've managed to offer such good sound for so little a price. Nevertheless, I found them very comfortable. They are light and dont have any tight clamping force that puts pressure on my head/ears. I can wear these for long periods of time, no problem. You can also fairly easily replace the earpads with velour ones for even better comfort for another £10-15 or so, which is worth doing if you plan on using these as primary headphones for a good while.

The sound quality is amazing and the comfort around the ears is excellent but the lack of ability to change the volume on the headphones directly can be a slight annoyance but the headphones have one major problems. For smaller heads the Headphones grip far to tights with the bottom of the ear pads clamping down and digging in to the sides of the neck. This was initially bearable but soon started to cause aches and pains in my neck before causing large headaches leading to some strange positions needed to wear these headphones which then lead to cramps in my jaw as well. This did not change over the course of three months and there was still absolutely no give in the headphones even after attempts to stretch them wider. This could have been easily managed if the earpads were on a hinge to prevent the cutting angle or if there was any kind of adjustable part of the headphones at all rather than a silly one size fits all model. In short these are great for people with wider or taller heads (or at least higher up ears) than I have but otherwise these will lead to large amounts of aches and headaches rendering them unusable without large amounts of pain that can last even a couple of days after a long session even if you don't use them at all after that session.

*There is a TL;DR at the bottom These are a good pair of headphones that come with some useful accessories. The two included cables allow me to walk around my room without having to take the headphones off. This is a welcome change when compared to the short cable on my old gaming headset. -- Music Performance -- When listening to music, especially on my phone, the sound is great, if not slightly treble heavy. My OnePlus One allows me to adjust the bass and treble to my liking which makes these even better than they already sound. -- Gaming Performance -- When playing CS:GO, or gaming in general, the treble is noticeably pronounced though. It seemed to be slightly overpowering. This might be because my old headphones could have had a lot less treble than these, meaning I may not have gotten used to the amount on these headphones. I did notice that my positional awareness increased greatly when it comes to telling where people were based on sound. -- Listening to Video -- When I first received these, I watched some youtube videos, notably an episode of Painkiller Nearly and a Tek Syndicate video. In both of these I noticed a massive difference from any audio experience whilst watching youtube before. The voices on PKN were a lot clearer than before using these and in the tek syndicate video, I was able to pick out some background audio I had never heard in one of his videos before. -- Comfort -- The clamping force on these headphones seems to be noticeable for me, even though I don't have a massive head. Despite this, I am sure after some use, they will become much more comfortable. The earpads are not the best. Due to the over-ear trait these headphones have, your ears will become quite sweaty even after a half hour of use. Although they seem expensive for a good pair, buying some replacement pads would be a good idea and is something I am going to look into. Despite this, the pads no not cause pain on the ears like my old headphones did. Also, the headband is good but does seem to take a while to get used to. The pads on the headband can be pulled out further but require some force to do so. -- Conclusion/TL;DR -- PROS -Good Cable Options -Good for music -Good Sound Stage -Very Crisp, easy to pick out each sound in a scene. -The ear pads are nice and soft -The headband can be adjusted and is relatively comfortable. CONS -Slightly treble heavy, more noticeable in games. -Clamping force is heavy at first -The earpads do not breath well, causing sweaty ears. -The headband can become slightly painful after long periods of use -The pads on the headband require quite a lot of force to adjust.

I've been using these for around 3 years now, when I got them I can distinctly recall how the headbands dig into the top of your head, they still do three years later and cause headaches after more than 2 hours of use I found wearing a beanie under them helped a lot but naturally having fabric between your ears and the driver muffles the sound. in terms of audio they're genuinely amazing for the price, probably the closest thing to a set of reference headphones for the price and despite being open backs and typically not bassy you can crank the bass to get some without destroying the top end. the worst part about these headphones though is the design, superlux have a protruding 3.5mm male out of the bottom of the left earcup and it will always break within a few years of use from flex and stretch, the worst part is that its clearly a designed failiure point. I bought these over the 681s I previously had because they came with what appeared to be a thicker wire housing coming out the earcup, and certainly the case. Unlike the 681s, it's actually got a stress relief built into it, but it's still an exceptionally tight male port, making the stress relief pointless because of the force needed to disconnect the cable, and then it occurred to me. It doesn't need to be a male port at all, superlux could move the failure point to the wire and put a female port in the earcup then the broken component is the cable which you can replace far more cheaply than an entire set of headphones. but you sell less headphones that way.

As a pc gamer I found it hard to find a good gaming headset for my budget that was of good quality. I decided that a headset and mic combination would give me the best quality for money. I read extensively about this headset and its nearest counterpart the HD681 and this piece of hardware came up trumps. I play FPS games such as Battlefield and Counter strike and this headset is excellent I hear every last detail without having to max out my volume. For gamers comfort is paramount as we can spend extended periods of time playing and being uncomfortable does not make for an enjoyable experience, this headset is extremely comfy for me although I do not have a large head I do have a fair amount of hair which this headset can easily incorporate with its winged design. As for build quality I am very impressed receiving a carry bag two wires and a connector is more than i expected for what I paid. the headset is light whilst maintaining a robust build quality and the wires could be a little more flexible or possibly braided but considering the price you can expect much more. I plan to pair this with a ModMic 4.0 to rapidly turn it into a headset, I recommend watching Linustechtips video on this as well and listening to his sound tests. Overall the product is fantastic for gaming of all genre's and I strongly recommend you get a pair before the price goes up.

Ante todo, no soy ningún experto. Antes de comprarlos, consulté varios análisis del producto, y leí todos los comentarios (sobre todo los negativos) sobre el producto en Amazon. La verdad es que he quedado muy contento con el envío. En mi caso, ajustan muy bien, cubriendo toda la oreja, y no paso excesivo calor con ellos. Las almohadillas son de falsa piel, pero a mí me resultan cómodas. Había leído por ahí que al ser de 56ohm, en vez de los usuales 32ohm, en los dispositivos móviles, tablets, pcs, etc se perdía potencia de sonido, y que había que subir mucho el volumen para escucharlo bien, pero yo no he notado nada en ese respecto. De hecho, utilizo incluso menos volumen que con auriculares internos, o los que me vienen con el móvil. En cuando a la calidad de sonido, muy bien. Apenas noto distorsión, y se aprecian muchos detalles. Los utilizo para escuchar música, ver películas y jugar videojuegos, y da gusto. Además, los cables son extraibles, lo cual es de agradecer, ya que por lo general he tenido que deshacerme de otros auriculares porque acaban tazándose el cable. Espero que esta característica alargue al vida útil de los auriculares. No tengo ni idea de cómo son en comparación con unos profesionales, pero por este precio, me parecen una pasada. Si bien es verdad, no son para sacarlos a la calle, pues son voluminosos y no se pueden plegar, tampoco los quería para eso. Incluye cables de 1m y 3m, así como un adaptador para clavija jack 'gruesa' y una bolsa de tela para guardarlos si te los quieres llevar a alguna parte (lo cual es un detalle). Yo recomiendo la compra. Sin dudarlo.

These are the underdog of headphones! I have never heard music the way i heard on these headphones and that's when i actually understood that music is really complex and deep. It's not just about the bass. It's about how all the instruments come together with the right amount of bass,treble and mids and create that perfect balance and harmony. I stopped chasing bass after listening to these headphones. About the headphone sound quality: 1. They are not for bass heads 2. Super awesome sound-stage(Google that if you don't know what that means) 3. Really Really Really crystal clear ( Maybe a bit too clear for some people) The treble would be a bit sparkly for some people and it needs some time to getting used to. 4. GETTING TO THE BASS!!! - Well they aren't bass monsters, but what they are, are great awesome bass headphones where you wont see that the sound gets muffled when the drums or lows hit. Everything is so clear even when the bass hits. This is something you don't find in cheap headphones. Now i can only explain to a certain point about the sound. So if you are not looking for head thumping bass and looking out more for the most accurate sound on a budget and definitely audiophile sound quality, this is one of the top ones to consider!
