Dynamic Aging: Simple Exercises for Whole-Body Mobility : Bowman M.S., Katy, Allen, Joan Virginia, Wilgus, Shelah M., Woods, Lora, Faber, Joyce: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Easy to put into practice - I bought this with my 87 year old mother in mind (she is still reasonably mobile but slowing down quite rapidly now). The print is quite large and it is an easy book to read. The exercises are mostly doable for her, but also interest me too (in my 50's). Review: Excellent - Nice book. It deals vey well with really basic stuff that older people may have issues with e.g walking, standing on one foot, sitting on a chair and standing up again, movements used in driving a car, how to get more movement into your life. This is all stuff we have been doing most our lives, but there are lots of ways to (mis)use your body, and you might find that some of ways you do some of these things could do with some work. Thought provoking and very good.

Surprisingly effective!
Clear, convincing, well illustrated, and an enjoyable read. Katy Bowman's approach is practical, realistic, and very much based on "start where you are", but it's also remarkably effective. I've seen for myself that if you keep up the exercises you really can make surprising gains.

Very good book. Bought for my 84 year old mother ...
Very good book. Bought for my 84 year old mother who was initially reluctant to read it "I'm not going hiking along the sea like those women on the cover!" But then I caught her reading it and commenting on how useful she found both the text and the images. Katy Bowman is brilliant.

goo. Buy this one
all golden girls like myself will benefit from this. Geared to what is good and fun for us rather than gym bunny extremes.

I would recommend this book to anyone with a body. This book helps to eliminate restrictions we place on ourselves as we age, both physically and mentally. The best years are ahead and this book helps us step into them with strength, grace, hope and health! An easy understandable and actionable read.

it is great to read about people around 80 years old moving so freely. if most 80 year old could move more the world would be a better place.

Over many decades of stretching and exercise, I've gathered a shelf of books on the topics and perused many others. Yet I cannot think of a more uniquely helpful book than this one . Most books of this ilk just give the reader a list of exercises, with instructions, photos, and some encouraging words. This book does much more by educating the reader about the mechanics of this/her body, what happens to it during disuse (quite different from aging, she points out), and how and why certain exercises actually work to improve matters. It's like she respects your body AND your mind too! This motivated me to do the exercises rather than procrastinate because I can now see how they work. And BTW they do! My favorite chapter is the one on feet, too often neglected in other books, which she sees as the very platfrom of standing and walking, and gives simple-to-do exercises to loosen up the dozens of joints there. Anyone, a beginning or more advanced exerciser, has much to learn from this book. The book is engagingly written and does not overwhelm you with too many dozens of exercises, but the ones that are functionally the best.
