Finally, something that works
Update: After reading some of the reviews I wanted to address the "slipping" issue. Putting it together and adjusting the device can take about a minute of practice. You have to hold it in your lap with the gradual side of the arch against your waist and steep slope side away from so the device is pointing forward. It has two pieces. Pull the top part you lie on towards you until it bottom front edge moves over and you can feel one of the securing slots on the bottom piece. Gently release tension and slightly slide the edge of the top part just a bit side to side into the slot in the bottom. Give it a little push into the slot to make sure that it's IN THE SLOT- shouldn't be that difficult. If it's not securely in the slot, the top part can slip when you lie on it. If it's secure, it will not slip- I weigh 220 lbs. and have never had a problem. I hope this helps. Also, I use the device both directions for different lower back stretch effects. I believe though that the gradual slope is supposed to be pointed away from your waist, closest towards your feet. My lower back has been really hurting and tight over the last couple of years. Mostly from getting older and sitting at the office for hours during the week. I've tried multiple lower back stretches which sorta/kinda work but don't quite hit the spot. This stretcher is very straight-forward and pinpoints the exact muscles I need stretched just by moving it around to the right place on my back. I started off with the lowest of 3 settings and was able to completely relax into that setting after about 3-4 days. I'm on month 5 now and can use the highest setting with no problem. During the day, my back is not sore anymore and lower back pain is virtually gone. Device is well-made and the material is strong-I weigh 220 lbs and have no worry that it will collapse. I can't recommend this enough- game changer for me. Best idea is to start off slowly at the lightest setting and don't be too eager to get to the next setting. Just give your back a chance to adjust. Also, I think it would be prudent to show the Amazon pic to your physician or PT clinician first, if you're being treated for back issues, just to be safe.

Research PROPER use
I’m a 58 year old male of average build. Ive been working out 4 days a week, hoping to alleviate Lower back stenosis. I’ve been working out regularly only a couple months with no relief of lower back pain, then I purchased this stretcher. There seems to be differing reviews on how to use it. My main point when using is positioning but I’ll address that momentarily. There are a number of videos on YT, from medical professionals discussing the use of stretchers. If used properly, they can give quite a bit of relief. Number one, There are three adjustable settings from low to high. Start with the lowest and make sure the adjustable slotted end is facing your head, not your feet. Number two, and most important, the main product video positioning of your back onto the product would only be correct for middle to upper back, not lower back. Basically, if you have lower back issues, make sure that when you lie onto the product, the main area of your discomfort is at the highest point,or slightly beyond, the Apex of the bend when lying back on it. I would also suggest having your knees bent slightly. Again, if you have lower back pain, you do not want to position your lower back(butt) at the start of the stretcher. Your back discomfort point should be at the apex (highest stretcher point) otherwise it will be extremely uncomfortable and make matters worse. If you are positioned correctly, this item has given me decent relief. 5 to 10 minutes of use at a time.

Excellent back stretcher for pain and spasms.
Ordered this back stretcher to try to alleviate lower back pain, which was causing pain through the hip and down into the thigh. Although I was dubious because the surface looks hard and knobby, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was to use. The knobs are somewhat soft, and provide nice pressure point stimulation. I have it set on the lowest height, which works perfectly for me in my 60s. With my arthritic hands, it was a little difficult to get into position, but flexed nicely when warmed. I have found that by slowly reclining over it, and relaxing on it for 10 minutes at a time, my back spasms stop, and it provides a good relaxing stretch. Also, by slowly lowering on it, it allows the back to adjust, popping into place. I have found the best time for me to use this is during a morning stretch, when my back is at its worst. My hip pain has definitely diminished, and I no longer have the pain through my thigh. Overall, this has been an excellent little back stretcher, and I would definitely recommend it.

Updated review
Okay, honest review… I am not sure if this thing is great or going to make me paralyzed. I have lower back pain a lot, I bought this to use in between massages. It’s really hard to put into place. There are not many instructions on the best was to use it. I used to last notch as it was the least amount of hump and seemed the best place to start. I leaned back on it and I don’t know if my torso isn’t long enough or I am just no longer able to bend my back at 46, but I am in shape. With my bum off the ground completely, but my back on it and arms resting on the ground, I felt like I couldn’t breath. It was not comfortable, it has ridges that hurt. The back pain isn’t chronic, so I am unsure if it will help when I have it. However, it’s my back, my spine, I might be more comfortable laying on the bed and letting my limbs hang off the bed, as the massage therapist instructed. I think this thing could possibly hurt me. I am going to do more research, but I am a little scared of it. Update; after using this thing a couple days a week and trying to see if it would work or make a difference, I noticed mid back pain, that I had never had before. The pain became so bad that I was unsure if I really had hurt myself using this device. I have been on a heating pad for days now, trying to fix it. I never had pain in my mind back. The pain was in my lower back and only when I woke up in the morning. I called an orthopedic doctor and he said that most likely I was stretching a nerve pain, which can cause way more harm than good. I am now completely afraid of what I have done. My back hurts 24/7 and it’s been days. I will be going to see a doctor to see I caused damage to a myself by using this device. I don’t recommend this. I should have known better. This isn’t a beginner, middle and advanced. It’s an advanced, more advanced and gymnast. I looked for other reviews like mine and only saw 1 where someone said it was causing more harm than good, which surprised me because I am 5 7 and 138 pounds. In good shape, I didn’t think I could hurt myself stretching on the beginner level, but I have and it is not like anything I have ever had before.

simple but effective
At first, it was very hard to use. My back was tight and not very limber. Even now, the first minute or two seems like I am laying on a huge mound. I found that having my knees bent at first helps. As my back loosens up I am able to lay my legs flat. I can feel it loosening my back and it feels good after the first minute or so. I still can not go past the first slot / level of adjustment but it works for it intended purpose and I feel better after using it.

Good product for short term pain relief.
If you have more serious back issues such as bulging or herniated disks, spinal stenosis or degenerative disk disease, this is not a miracle cure all. However it can give some temporary relief. It works by realigning the spine and taking pressure of the nerve roots. It helps improve your posture and it is also very sturdy. I'm 240 lbs and it held up just fine. The first time I used it I felt two disks pop and had almost instant relief. I used it about 5 minutes then stood up and was mostly pain free (for a while). You can also use it while sitting in a chair or driving. I've been dealing with back issues for several years and I can say for the money, this is a good product.
