I enjoyed this book!
I was impressed with the very detailed personal history of his growth and successes in track during his high school years, and learned a great deal about the sport from reading it. I particularly enjoyed his personal touches about growing up in a religious family and conservative, small rural town of Connell, WA. I felt transported at times to a different era and culture in American history.

Read if you want to kick start your own exercise/training - inspiring!
I loved this book and as others have said, could not stop reading it. It was a treat at the end of my day, I felt less alone watching over the author's shoulder as he bravely faced many challenges, kept running like the wind, and never gave up. I found myself wishing boys today could have the kind of positive male mentoring, exercise and outdoor activities that Greg Gibson and his friends did, rather than computer screens, games and other sedentary entertainment. Of course I am writing this sitting at my desk...:)...so me, too!I have to say this book inspired me to exercise more, and appreciate the fresh air and embrace of nature. The stories of wholesome, (mostly) supportive community behind world class runners introduced me to a world I'd never known. I have new respect for the human capacity to train and excel, thanks to this author. I have already recommended it to others. A great read!

Fine read
Greg and I started at the UW at the same time; he as a Freshman and me as a grad student. We ran and trained together but I really didn't know his background. This book is a great tour of Greg's life through High School. It is fascinating to read about how he developed as a runner and a person coming from a very small community in the pre-Internet days. As one who never was recruited (for anything) it is fascinating to read about that process and how Greg navigated it. The book details the support which family, faith, coaches, and competitors all played; a wonderful community and well worth reading about.

Excellent read. Greg’s book captures you from the very beginning.
I loved Greg’s book and could not put it down. His drive, passion for running, Faith and obstacles he faced along his journey kept me wanting to know more. How do you continue and strive to be the best with hardships facing you? Maybe I loved reading about a fellow school mate, but it was more how he rose up and conquered any fears and never quit. He shares with his readers his integrity, confidence and love for the sport, his teammates, family and above all his faith in God. Greg is a tremendous writer. He takes you with him every step of the way. A heartfelt book that I did not want to see end. Thank you Greg for sharing your story with us.

One of the best
Over the years I've read A LOT of running books. This is one of the best. There is a delightful combination of two things: 1) Inspiration for running and 2) Stories that make you think about your own life and story. Most of us are in need of both. This is the kind of book that stays with you long after you've read it.

Great Story of Small Town Runner
A great book about a small town runner, who rose from a average high school runner to a National Record holder. His story is the inspirationalstuff every young runner dreams of. I had the pleasure of knowing and running against Greg in High School. I knew from my first meeting that he would be something special. His book is something any young athlete would love to read. As a coach for 40 years I would highly recommendany athlete to read his inspirational story.

Personal and inspiring. The best autobiography I've read all year.
I found "Rythm of the Stride" to be very inspiring and down to earth. No fairy tale stuff here, just down to earth grit and glory. I was personal challenged by Greg's life. Coming from a small town in Easter Washington with few opportunities, Greg's determination and drive propelled him to realize those dreams and become a world-class competitor. I found the book hard to put down. One of the most inspiring I've read in years.

True, deep-reaching reflections from a Runner's runner
Greg Gibson was an outstanding (national class) miler in the 1970s - and a top-flight NCAA competitor across other middle distances, too. We only met once, when I was a first year walk-on member of the University of Washington cross country team in 1976. Greg was the star miler, the first sub-4:00 miler at the UW. In those few minutes, it was immediately clear to me that Greg was a special class of athlete and person.I was immediately struck by his intense focus, supreme athleticism and humble, quiet manner. Despite being leagues beyond my modest level, he was courteous and served as an inspiration in my running journey.Four decades later, Greg and I have got to know each other a bit online as I returned to 800/1500m and mile track racing as a masters athlete in Scotland. And he remains an inspiring role model - not just as a fellow runner, but as a quiet man of family, faith and fortitude. His story and his book are captivating, inspiring and humble. He writes in a way that reaches into your being and stays with you. I recommend this book highly.
