It seems like the charging function of this does not actually work ...
Edit 7/20/2018. It turns out this unit does work mostly, but you can't just attach the controllers and expect it to charge all the time. If its plugged in to a USB power source it will charge the controllers as you play, but it eventually stop. If you access the controllers menu on the switch you can tell when its charging and when it isn't. Final verdict. It takes some getting used to, and the internal battery seems weak, but it does charge, and its wider. It seems like the charging function of this does not actually work very well. Plugged this in, left it on with the controller halves plugged in over night, when I woke up the red light was solid, which I think means charged, after a day of play using this, my right side controller is out of juice. This does not happen when I use the actually switch for charging over night. Basically the right side controller died after the expected 40 hours of use, and the battery controller didn't charge it in any way, nor extend its use. The wide form factor is nice.Edit; 7/6/2018. I figured out the issues with the charging. 1. The unit does not charge the controllers when plugged into USB, it only charges itself. Red led blinks when charging, stays on solid when charged. 2. It seems like it will only charge the controllers when unplugged from USB. Blue led will light when the controllers are plugged in and charging. However, sometimes one side doesn't get set correctly, so plugging it in while in the controller screen from the main menu of the switch will reveal if a controller is actually taking charge. It should light up full green on the switch screen for each side. 3. The battery appears to be an oldschool nicad, no eneloop tech, so it discharges when it sits around, this means that it came fully discharged, and the battery may be in need of rehabilitation. I'm doing a discharge, freeze it for 2 hours, charge it process on it a couple of times to see if the battery will last more than a couple hours. As it stands the unit will extend or charge a pair of controllers for about 2 hours, so probably around 50% of a full charge, maybe less. My battery rehabilitation may change this.Things that would have made this unit worth $40; Replaceable double AA or quadruple AAA rechargeable battery holders instead of an internal battery. Ability to charge its own batteries, and the controllers at the same time.Dear Balerion, if you make these changes, I'll definitely buy another one or two. Also make it about 1cm wider in the center, thanks.

joy-cons fit a little too tightly and charging status indication could be better
I purchased this product because I wanted a grip for my second set of joycons and while I was at it, I wanted an easy way to charge those controllers.Whie this grip looks like it will do everything I need (it will charge the joycons while connected to the power adapter or on battery power and it provides a satin grip that keep the controllers secure), execution could have been better. Here are some of my complaints:-- The grip has a satin surface which is somewhat outdated, I think. Most manufacturers mold textures into the plastic to give them grip. My past experience with satin surfaces is that after a few years, they become a sticky mess.-- Perhaps it is the product that I got but I charged the grip overnight without the joycons inserted and the red charging light was still on when I checked on it in the morning so there is no indication that the charging has completed. This might mean that there is no cut-off for when the battery is fully charged.-- The joy-cons fit too snugly. It is actually a little difficult to slide the controllers in and out of the grip. This could be because of the satin finish that is sprayed on to the underlying plastic.Other features:-- Charges the joycons with the built-in battery pack. A blue light indicates that the controllers are charging.-- Not much heavier than the original switch grip.-- Wider than the original grip. For me, this is actually more comfortable.Again, this will meet my requirements but I wonder how long the internal battery pack will last if there is no charging cut-off.

Good for adult hands.
Got it for my son and he seems to really like it. I like it also and always use this one instead of the one that came with the switch when I played with him. It's bigger than the original so it's much more comfortable for me to hold. The original is kids size and is way too small. Not sure how long the battery last since he's the one making sure everything is charged but he hasn't complained yet.

Pretty great, only real complaint is that it is ...
Pretty great, only real complaint is that it is a bit snug so getting joycons in and out of it is pretty difficult. The joycons are almost always left in it though so that isn't really a problem. just a heads up for others who do a lot more with their switch. (Wife uses hers as a home system only, I take mine around so I wouldn't get this for myself personally)

Great for non-stop fun!
This charging controller is great if your wanting to play your Nintendo switch, but your joy cons are low battery.Even though this isn't a official nintendo brand charging controller it actually serves the same purpose just the cost is less. Our joy cons fit perfectly, the grey version which is the newer model and the red/ blue joy cons both slide on the charger controller with no issuesIt easy to hold and comfortable as the controller is very smooth and soft texture feeling on the hands

Great design, lacks finishing details
I like the overall design of this product when I received it and it feels great in my hands, unfortunately when I remove my joy cons I noticed some marks on the back. The screws for the grip protrude too much thus scratching the joy cons. Might have to file it down to make flush

joy cons DO NOT WORK while inside
I rated this Item 2 stars originally but after making multiple attempts to play with this thing, i had to go back and drop it to one star. The joy cons dont even slide into this thing all the way, i have to use a ton of brute force to slide them in and it doesn't even click. then, while attempting to play super smash brothers, the joy cons will periodically stop working. they work just fine when they are outside of the grip but they stop working at random while inside the grip.I know what your thinking: cheap joy con charging grip because i don't really care that much about quality. However, this thing just flat out does not work, take your money elsewhere and spend the extra 5 dollars for a product that functions like it should
