Flash Point Fire Rescue Expansion Veteran and Rescue Dog Pack

This is a small expansion which contains 2 new roles for use with Flashpoint Fire Rescue. The roles are Rescue Dog and Veteran. You get 2 minatures, specific to their character, 2 role cards with an additional special rules cards for these characters.For £10 its not a cheap expansion and you dont get a lot for your money, however the plastic minatures are pretty cool and if you paint them they would look even better. Go to Boardgamegeek.com to see some peoples complete painted minatures!Ok so the new roles.Rescue Dog: For me this the main reason I got this expansion. The rescue dog has 12 AP and whilst cannot fight fire, he can reach victims quickly, even getting through damaged walls. It does cost a lot to drag the victim using the rescue dog, but used in combination with other firefighters the Rescue Dog can get in and out quick. Caution with using this role is that he cannot open, close doors or move through fire. As a result he could potentially get trapped by an explosion or out break of fire down a corridor blocking his way. I do think this is a fun role to play with if you dash in to rescue a victim you can pretty much move across most of the board in 1 turn, although only moving 3 spaces dragging a victim may require fire fighting assistance. The risk of getting trapped adds to the tension in game.Veteran: Standard 4AP this role looks a bit boring and tbh playing with the Veteran is not as fun as other roles, especially just 2 player. The Veteran gives any firefighter within 3 spaces a 1 AP bonus. If you are playing with more than 2 players the Veteran is a great support role. The 1AP bonus can also be earned mid turn should a player move within 3 spaces of the Veteran. The other ability of the Veteran is that he can dodge explosions with saved AP and this ability is transferred to other firefighters within 3 spaces. My only concern with this is that with the Veteran only having 4 AP, the caution of saving AP to dodge means that you do limit your actions on your turn.In summary, a worthy little expansion to Flashpoint Fire Rescue. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but if you are a fan and want more choice of roles then I would recommend these 2 new roles as they will add to the base game. Certainly with more players this will offer more choice and the combinations of specialists sets up some exciting possibilities for fire fighting and rescue.
