I just installed this, I used forscan and the install was pretty easy. After installing it showed brake module fault. I thought it was garbage and was angry at first. However, after some research, I realized I needed the 30 mini fuse in slot 24. It does work. I had no trouble braking while towing about 200lbs under my trucks max capacity. When I squeeze the triggerz while driving I can feel the trailer brakes engage and slow the vehicle down. No battery issues like the other reviews state. I towed 500 Mile's round trip. The only issue I ran into is the dash will show no trailer connected sometimes. When it does I test the brakes and keep going. Since there is a issue with the product I feel 4 stars would be right. However since this product saved me $260 compared to ford's outrageously over price oem part, I threw in the extra star.

It works but, I noticed on a couple really cold days, id run only my floor heater all the way on the Hot setting.. my feet get cold easy... about 20 minutes into my drive to work, I kept getting a message on my dash every few seconds saying.... "trailer brake gain X.X" or whatever it was set to! Couldn't figure out why that message kept popping up and then it dawned on me.. heat was turned all the way up, the floor duct runs right behind the brake controller... maybe it was getting too hot! I turned down the heat and it stopped popping messages up on my dash! Did it the following day as well, tuned my heat down, messages went away! I figured the heat was causing the metal contacts in the controller to bend or flex eaiser... either way, haven't gotten the messages since I quit running my floor heat full tilt!!! Cheap contacts used in the controller, don't know if that's bad or good but.... I'm going to replace it with an authentic OEM fomoco controller!

I bought this use in a 2015 Expedition that already had in-dash brake controller but for unclear reason the original controller fried when getting ready to leave the campground so we left our trailer 3 hours from home. I bought this as an inexpensive replacement. The fault message for brake controller immediately went out when I plugged it in so I thought great, except the face would not fit into the panel because it us a slanted square whereas the original was square. Being in a situation I switched the actuator faces between units and installed. At that time I observed the inside circuitry is very different and more intense on tge original unit. The vehicle instrument panel message says no trailer connected when I pulled the brake controller slide, so I thought I would be all set to go retrieve our trailer until I realized the next day the Expedition battery was completely drained. This might be a great init for the right application. Don’t do what I did.

Installed in my truck, used Forscan program to enable trailer brake controller modules in the onboard truck computer. Works just fine.
