In Traction , serial entrepreneurs Gabriel Weinberg and Justin Mares give startups the tools for generating explosive customer growth 'Anyone trying to break through to new customers can use this smart, ambitious book' Eric Ries, author of The Lean Startup Most startups don't fail because they can't build a product. Most startups fail because they can't get traction. Building a successful company is hard. Smart entrepreneurs know that the key to success isn't the originality of your offering, the brilliance of your team, or how much money you raise. It's how consistently you can grow and acquire new customers. Traction will teach you the nineteen channels you can use to build a customer base, and offers a three-step framework to figure out which ones will work best for your business. No matter how you apply them, the lessons and examples in Traction will help you create and sustain the growth your business desperately needs. 'Here is the inside scoop, the latest, most specific tactics from the red-hot centre of the Internet marketing universe. From someone who has done it. Twice' Seth Godin, author of Linchpin Review: Great for strategy — but the real traction comes from what you do next - As the founder of Freedom Builders Club, I work with solopreneurs who want to scale sustainably using AI, automation, and marketing psychology - so Traction was a must-read for me. This book is excellent for zooming out and seeing the full picture of growth. It breaks down 19 traction channels, from content marketing to unconventional PR, and introduces the Bullseye Framework - a simple process to test and double down on what actually works. That alone makes it worth reading. What stood out: - It gives you language for thinking strategically about growth - The Bullseye method helps cut through the noise and focus - It reminds founders that traction isn’t optional—it should take up half your time That said, Traction stops short of deep implementation. It’s great at telling you what to do, but doesn’t go far into how to execute at a system level. That’s exactly where our community steps in. At Freedom Builders Club, we take concepts like these and build the workflows, automations, and psychological hooks needed to turn strategy into scalable, personalized action—especially for founders doing it solo. If you’re figuring out how to grow your product, audience, or offer, Traction is an empowering place to start. Just be ready to go deeper if you want to really apply it. Review: Well worth the purchase! - Good read and very insightful. I would recommend to anyone who has just launched a new business.

Stands out in a crowded space
As a startup founder coming mainly from the technology side, I needed a good practical hands-on guide to go beyond the overwhelming number of generic sales and marketing books. The value in this book is that while we know the general principles of sales & marketing it’s great to have a well researched resource that provides scope, structure and a methodology for identifying, testing and adopting the most impactful traction channel for a company – particularly a new start. I used the methodology internally within my company and even with seasoned Sales and Marketing professionals, it brought out real valuable and insightful targets and actions. It also states that when you saturate a traction channel, reassess the 19 channels again, and move to the next to get the edge on competitors – great advice that’s often really difficult to act on. Similar to the Innovator's Dilemma. While I think it has been padded to substantiate it as a book, and while I also think several of the traction channels naturally go hand-in-hand, for the impact it has had on our company and my commercial thinking, I can only but say it deserves a 5 star. It’s really hard to stand out in this space but Traction really does that, and I would suggest getting a copy and keeping it on your desk.

A great book but....
The book covers both online and offline strategies, so for e-commerce stores, some of the content might be irrelevant. In addition, some of the content is slightly outdated and needs to be updated. Regardless, it’s a great book for newbies or even seasoned marketers as it’s well structured and easy to follow.

Practical and to the point.
Not sure why everyone is complaining about the depth of some of the traction areas. In such a small book it's impossible to go into major detail about each marketing strategy. The beginning was very useful and gives a great framework for finding and exploiting marketing areas. Definitely would recommend, very practical.

Must read for all start ups
Best book I have read on growth and marketing. The book covers 19 different growth channels in much detail. There were loads of examples to help understand the traction channels. By the time I got halfway into this book, I already had loads of ideas of different experiments and campaigns we can run at our company.

Lots of useful info, but needs updating.
Good book with many helpful ideas for getting traction for a new business, but quite a lot of the online advice is outdated. 2015 is a long time ago in terms of digital marketing. It's definitely time for a new edition, or at least a website that offers current digital advice.
