a great sequel to Arkham Asylum
‘Arkham City’ is the second entry in the Arkham series of videogames, and serves as a direct sequel to ‘Arkham Asylum’. The story takes place about a year after the conclusion of that earlier game. You play as the Dark Knight, in a third-person adventure – involving lots of action (fighting) as well as strategy, detective work and puzzle solving. For this game, part of Gotham City has been sectioned off behind fortified walls, serving as a huge prison to house all sorts of criminals and other undesirables – and it’s here, in what’s known as Arkham City, that you must work out what’s going on, figure out who’s behind it, and stop them from completing their evil plans. This is a vastly expanded world to play in, and there are lots of enemies to fight ... from Bane to Poison Ivy, from Mr Freeze to the Penguin. The 'big' villains are the Joker (with Harley Quinn), Hugo Strange, and Ra's al Ghul. And, throughout the game, there's lots of puzzles to solve and death traps to survive as created by the Riddler. Arkham City is an open world environment, and you have total control over Batman – who is able to demonstrate amazing free-flow combat, as well as an arsenal of gadgets. It's a game involving fantastic graphics, a great soundtrack, wonderful voice acting, and an interesting story (written by Paul Dini). It is rather more diffuse as a plot as compared to the earlier 'Asylum', but the world in this game is far more immense and allows for multiple stories to be developed. If you enjoyed ‘Arkham Asylum’ (or any of the other games in this series), you’ll like this one. This is the standard edition of the game … to access to additional content (e.g. the Harley Quinn mission) you’ll need to purchase the various DLC’s. But I suggest you look around, and see if you can buy the 'Game of the Year' edition - which comes with many extras. I thoroughly recommend this game.

Best comic-book game. Ever.
This game was brilliant to play and keeps pulling me back to its immersive world. It's by far the best game based on a comic book that I've ever played (and I've played a *lot* of them). Don't hesitate to add this to your collection. I'm going to whiz through a quick list of pros and cons for the game, but this is overwhelmingly positive. + The game has a dark, gritty (but realistic) feel to it + Every character has a well-developed personality + The environment isn't just there to look pretty - there are beautiful details in even the most minor things - from graffiti on the wall to descriptions of exhibits in the museum + Huge landscape - much bigger than Arkham Asylum - with plenty to do + Great voice acting - many of the voices from the excellent "Batman: The Animated Series' have been carried over to this game + Strong plot - this is a story-driven game and the main story arch is excellent and unique to the game. Within the original, main arch, several characters are brought in from the Batman universe + Never feels cheesy - always worry with characters like the Penguin that you'll end up with more cheese than gripping plot - not so with the characters in this game + *Plenty* of side-quests and activities to keep you occupied long after the game is finished + Game extension after first completion with harder mode to keep the challenge fresh - Saving is based on checkpoints - I don't like this but sadly it's the prevalent form of saving on consoles for action/RPG these days +/- Some parts of the game are very difficult - not for casual gamers Go buy it. Now.

This is not the game I wanted, this is the game I needed.
I held off from buying this game for a long time. It didn't feature high on my "wish-list" as I had played Arkham Asylum and feared it would be just the same. In part I was right, but I don't know why I feared that eventuality. Arkham City does everything Asylum did but bigger, brasher and with more freedom. Although there is a lot to be said for the enclosed environment of Arkham Aslym, the selling-point and quintessential desire that these games fulfil is the longing to BE Batman. Arkham City gives the essential moment of ziplining into the shadows of Gotham's rooftops, and terrifying the criminals below. The storyline is written by comics and Batman: TAS legend Paul Dini, meaning the dialogue is all superb. The voice-work by Kevin Conroy (who to many is the definitive Batman) is great, and a special mention goes to the phenomenal Joker by Mark Hamill. The combat system is easy to understand but tricky to master, meaning it is not too difficult to start but can be incredibly rewarding. The storyline is excellent and the character designs merit especial mention, taking into account years of designs but blending it with the game's atmosphere. Robin and Catwoman both have excellent designs which are recognisable whilst defining themselves as Rocksteady's specific iteration. This game is incredibly fun, incredibly deep and has enough puzzles, Riddler challenges and side-missions to keep any player interested for months. Couple that with the fact that it comes free with the Catwoman downloadable content, this game is worth the purchase for any avid gamer.

A good game, but DLC pushed up the cost so better to buy "Game of the Year" version.
This is an excellent game set in the (almost) open world environment of Arkham City. Anyone who is familiar with the Assassin's Creed series will know what to expect from "Batman: Arkham City". In addition to the main story, the player can take part in a number of side quests, or even just roam the city finding collectibles or beating on street thugs which all add to a free-roaming, non-linear gaming experience. The combat system isn't too complicated but includes some stunning visuals and the gadget system is also simple to master. With this particular version of the game you can only get the "Catwoman pack" redeem code when the game is brought new and all other DLC will need to be downloaded from Xbox Marketplace which will add to the cost of the over-all game, so I would argue that it maybe cheaper in the long run to purchase one of the other versions such as "Game of the Year" which I'm told includes all previously released DLC.

A Superb Game in Every Aspect
Batman: Arkham City is one of those rare games where it takes all that made the first instalment fun, exciting and memorable and improved upon it in each and every facet. This game has a better story, better setting, better gadgets, more freedom to explore, better puzzles, better fighting, more and better characters, a tighter and more exhilarating plot and is wrapped up in a beautiful package of wonderful visuals that keeps the gamer enthralled for hours upon end. You will not get tired of Batman: Arkham City any soon. And if you do it has several excellent pieces of DLC to round out the experience. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes open-world adventures, stealth /action/martial arts fighting games, or one of the best interpretations of Batman and his rogues gallery. Special mention need go to Mark Hamill, his Joker stands out as one of the very best that has ever been played.

Batman arkham city
