Great product - no more cat mess!
Worked a treat. Cats steer well clear of the areas they cover, but it doesn’t seem to cause them any distress.

Got rid of fox poo: up-dated review
I bought these on the recommendation of other reviews. We had a persistent problem with a fox visiting the garden at night and leaving a mess day after day. Our garden is about 200m2 with a fenced off raised-bed area so I reckoned I needed three at least to cover most of the garden effectively. Two for the grass and one for the raised beds. We have had no mess at all in the garden for three months. Just once, right at the end or the raised beds when I realised that the batteries had run out. I had them on medium sensitivity and dog/fox setting (4-6). So the batteries lasted about 3 months and the product seems to be totally effective so far. We are very pleased. Two years later: I have been able to prevent foxes coming in as well by stretching some chicken wire at the end of our garden. However one unit lasted one year before it stopped working. The other two have now become useless. The battery compartments have signs of rust and whether it is that or water inside (visibly) they have all failed now, permanently. So they worked perfectly for a year, maybe two. This makes them quite expensive in my opinion, but there is not much alternative to buying new ones this year I suppose.

These actually work!!
I admit it, I’m a naturally skeptical person but was at the end of my tether after my newly landscaped garden was held hostage to cat poo. This wasn’t just any cat poo. This was dog quality cat poo. Left by, what I can only describe as, half a lion rather than a cat. A shaggy, long haired huge beast of cat which kept leaving steaming, smelly piles right in the middle of my nice (white!) shingle. I tried various lemon scented sprays but one downpour and it was gone so I wanted something heavy duty to get rid of this monster cat. I’d read the reviews of the product and most seemed to say they work. The hints and tips left about screwdrivers were spot on and really helpful. Putting them together was a doddle but the minute I put all of the batteries in I could hear this click click click and this almost inaudible sound. I’d read some reviewers notes that said the sound left them nauseous and feeling a little car sick. Absolutely spot on! I felt quite queasy after assembling them but forged on as I had a cat to remove. I’ll be honest I didn’t expect much. I thought maybe if anything the blue light that comes on when they are activated may scare a cat off. I have two of the three (one is spare) at certain points in the garden and one facing the usual poo patch. From the day I installed them zero poo on my nice white shingle! Nothing at all. Success!! However my joy was short lived when I spotted a swarm of bluebottles in another part of my nice new beding area. That bleeping cat!! Undeterred I figured out that the current range and angle of the scarers needed moving slightly so all of the garden was covered. I’m now three weeks into using these and I’m poo free for three weeks. Poo free people!!!! I’m staggered just now well these work. Set them at halfway on both dials and enjoy a kitty free back garden! My neighbour saw me install these and only recently asked what I was doing. I explained about the cat and she said “oh yes that beast, it jumped on my conservatory roof and gave me such a fright as it was so big and loud!” The beast of a cat is still around but the blighter is no longer in MY garden!

These didn’t last long but did keep cats away when they did work!
Unfortunately all of ours have already stopped working. We used them for about a month during summer successfully, then brought them inside for Oct & Nov because so much rain = no cats. Now can’t get them to work. New batteries in but no idea why they’ve just stopped. :-(

Havent deterred the foxes after 6 weeks, fiddly to keep changing the batteries.
Not great, we have a small garden and I purchased 3. I read which settings are recommended as a fox deterrent but 6 weeks of use and the fox still sleeps in the flower bed where one is positioned and another one points at from across the garden. I purchased rechargeable batteries (4 per unit) and thats where the functionality again isnt great, its very fiddly taking the back on and off, 4 tiny screws per unit. I should have found some which have a battery back inbuilt so you can just charge the unit directly. Sadly I cannot recommend these. Quick delivery and well packaged.

Used for Foxes!
Sceptical with all the mixed reviews but plunged into buying these as I was getting sick and tired of the mess the foxes were leaving in my garden and using it as a thoroughfare into neighbouring properties.. Anyway, product is a s described and I didn’t find the assembly hard at all.. used a screwdriver and held on to the nut with my thumb until it was securely fixed.. yes a little fiddly but no major issue. Concerned that the instructions were not clear as to what the dials were meant to do and what settings were ideal for each purpose.. anyway, easily resolved by trial and error.. First few days I was beginning to think this was a hopeless purchase and as I covered up the holes that were dug underneath the fence on the day of installing I found that this product wasn’t working as the holes were dug up again.. Anyway, a few days later SUCCESS!! No more fox poo and no more holesdug so I am overwhelmed!! This works a treat and for the sake of a handful of batteries every month this is a small price. Those of you who are looking to deter squirrels then you will be disappointed, though foxes have gone I am still seeing the same amount of squirrels.. Not what I was looking to deter but would have liked them to have done one too.. Great purchase and 5 stars from me!

Flawed design; moisture ingress.
Bought this due to being ostensibly waterproof, a UK company and having variable mounting (including a sturdy zinc plated ground spike) and frequency options. It initially appeared to perform well, certainly sensing me in the detection zone. Unfortunately, after a couple of dry weeks, we had our first rain, and moisture appeared in the PIR “lens”, presumably, from this, the chance of it surviving the winter are slim at best. Thankfully this was within the return window, so back it went. Disappointing to say the least, you would think a UK company might anticipate the weather.

New packaging same quality??
We have been buying these cat carers for a number of years now and we always review again each time we reorder. We find that these scarers are a deterant in our wrap round front, side and back garden, noticing when the batteries run out and not spotted the cats start to take their chances again leaving their calling card! Reading other reviews some cats walk past them. We wonder if the scarers need the settings upped, or maybe like humans some cats have hearing problems and would walk past a pneumatic drill without a flinch. These cat scarers require some assembly as the ground spike needs to be attached. This is the most difficult part getting the screws in at what is an awkward angle and the screws are not magnetic so hard to keep them in place (but better screws than our previous order). Put the spike on first not the batteries in as the scarer will activate all the time whilst you are handling it especially if the settings are turned up. Some children can hear the clicking sound the scarers make and adults may if the settings are high. We have ours set at three quarters round and hear nothing, but the cats do as if they are picked up by the scarer activating they run so fast and can't get away quick enough let alone leave anything behind in the garden. Previous orders of this item have come in plain buff boxes in a larger buff box. This latest order came nicely packaged in 3 printed boxes and a large outer printed box displaying the contents. The contents look the same along with the more professional looking packaging. Our thoughts as the packaging has changed has any other improvement been made, but all looks the same. When we first started buying these scarers they seemed to last a long time. Subsequent orders they seem to have had a shorter life. The cost of replacing multiple scarers as they fail can be quite expensive on top of battery cost. We use 4 rechargeable batteries in each as much cheaper than the one-use type. We have a spare set so there's never really much time where the scarers are inactive. Batteries last longer in areas were the scarers are least activated and nobody walking past or kids playing (take them out) and put back later. If facing a pavement where people are walking batteries will drain quickly. Our biggest bug bear is that these scarers are advertised as waterproof and can stop out in all weather conditions. Stop out in all conditions yes, waterproof no. We have never found these to be waterproof despite it saying that on the box. Some of ours have failed over time for reasons unknown, however, we've had many that have clearly failed because water has found its way into the battery compartment where the connections and the battery tops have both gone rusty. Would suggest if watering the garden remove the scarer or water around it. All that said, these do the job they were puchased for, we are not troubled by visiting cats. However we would like to see these scarers living up to their advertised description of being waterproof which could be corrected somewhat by changing the design. If the batteries were to be inserted from the bottom or a wrap around back cover that may help to prevent leaking and rusting happening and prolong the life.
