Nice and Powerful and Does the Job
this is either a solid 4 star item or maybe a "weak" 5 stars. it certainly de-thatches well. i did not use the scarifier at all...and only de-thatched at the highest level. the tines on the the de-thatching rotor seemed to get clogged with (some) of the bermuda grass that has crept into my yard (bermuda grows on rhizomes, kind of like underground strings) so i would periodically stop and rip them out. however, i'm not at all sure that that was necessary as the machine seemed to continue to do it's job. as was mentioned in other reviews, the bag is not very helpful. it will accumulate a little bit of material, but that's about it. it's easier to remove the bag and just run the machine and go back over the area with a rake to remove the thatch/clippings. that's the hardest part of the job! assembly was easy and the machine is powerful. lots if plastic, but for the price, it is a solid little unit. overall, i'm pleased and would recommend this. however, my yard is less than 1/4 acre, if you are wanting a machine for a larger yard, you might want to do your research.

Very Effective Dethatcher
This is a very nice machine and a great value. I have attempted to rake thatch out of my fairly large lawn over the years and it is exhausting work and only moderately effective at best. This dethatcher rakes out that much more effectively and very quickly. I used it on the highest setting (raking tines at highest setting above the lawn). The collection basket fills with thatch very quickly. I've read complaints about the baskets on these machines being too small, but I don't agree. Dethatchers are not like lawn mowers. Lawn mowers have blades that create a powerful suction that blows the clippings into the bag. Dethatchers have metal tines (like a rake) that spin on a drum. There's no way for them to blow the thatch very far into the basket. I'd say this machine does a pretty good job of that, but it backs up pretty quickly. A larger bag wouldn't make any difference. The result is that. you have to empty the bag frequently. The machine does the hard work, but there's still considerable work involved in emptying the bag so frequently. My lawn had a lot of moss growing in one area. The dethatcher pulled it out very effectively, but it filled the bag really quickly and required emptying the bag many, many times. The amount of thatch and moss was incredible and the job was exhausting. Assembly is straight forward and probably took 30 minutes. I like that it can fold down to a fairly small size for storage. Contending with a power cord makes using the machine more awkward, but that's the trade off for a very reasonable price for a 16 inch width and 15 amp power. I'm mindful that I'll probably only use the machine once each year, so dealing with the inconvenience and saving on the cost of battery powered equipment makes sense to me. I definitely recommend this dethatcher.

Great machine despite a couple of drawbacks
It’s a great little machine, quick to set up and use. I took one star off as handle is not collapsible for storage and the storage bag could be bigger. I had to empty it every 10 steps, so a large area took hours!! But a great little machine and worth the expense, but is labor I tensive with constant emptying.

powerful and did the job extremely well.
Used on about 10,000 square feet of lawn. Massive amount of grass came up. Grass grew back thicker and stronger than before. Seems very powerful and will chew up the dirt if you move to slow as it is spinning fast. I wondered about how long this would last, but it seemed like there wasn't any smell from the motor struggling so thats a great sign for lasting a few seasons. At this price, cheaper than doing the HomeDepot rental. If I get 5 uses out of it I'll be happy. Highly recommend for its power

Easy to assemble and use
I bought this machine instead of hiring a crew to dethatch and aerate my front lawn. Used it twice so far (once for each side of the lawn on separate occasions). The lawn had been overtaken with moss and had bare patches. After applying moss killer, I used the machine on the one side that was worse - used the dethatching blade first, then switched to the aerator. Managed to fill two large green bins from the one side. Used the aerator only on other side of lawn and was able to pull up lots of dead grass. The machine is light compared to gas powered machines. I didn’t bother with the catcher - used a combination of mower and hand rake instead. Blade is easy to swap out. The aerator blade pulls the machine forward but easy to control. Electric cord is manageable. For those willing to put in manual labor, the machine works and you already cover the cost of purchasing it from one time rental of two separate gas machines to do the same job.

This thing is AWESOME!
Bought this to see if it would pick up pine needles. Did a great job on the needles! had several trees cut down and needed to level the ground after grinding out the stumps. Put on the auger and made quick work of breaking up the grass and dirt. Absolutely worth the money and one of my favorite tools!

Powerful, bagger is tiny
Small and light weight, but don’t let that fool you. This thing is a beast! Sturdy, powerful with adjustable depth. Easy to assemble and switching from dethatcher and scarifier is very easy. It is corded, so your range is limited to extension cord length. The only negative is bagger is tiny. It filled up in about 10-15 yards and was slowing me down. I took it off and used my blower after it got it all up. Otherwise lawn looks great, it got about 12 lawn bags of thatch up for my first spring yard day.
