Perfect, soft butter
I've heard about using a butter bell and decided to try it. I didn't want a really big, bulky one, and this one is the perfect size. It even comes with a cute little butter spreader. It holds one stick of butter (or 1/2 cup). I used Kerrygold salted butter, softened, to the point where you can leave an indent if you squeeze the stick. Too soft and it'll be harder to spread inside the bell.To spread, make sure the bell is totally dry, use the back of a spoon and really pack that stuff in...all around the edges, and then the bottom, working your way up. You want to prevent any big air bubbles in the butter so it doesn't fall into the water reservoir. As you can see from the butter pic, I have a couple of tiny bubble holes in the butter, but it didn't make a difference. I've had this butter in the bell for about a week, It's still fresh and soft, no rancid smell at all.I keep the bell on the kitchen counter and change the water every day, to just below the fill line in the reservoir, sometimes every other day if I forget. It's best to use salted butter...it stays fresh longer, and I keep a small container of salted water in the fridge to use when I change the water, as salt is a natural preservative.Obviously, it's working because after nearly a week on the kitchen counter during 85 degree temps outside, the butter is still perfectly soft and fresh with no mold or rancid smell. So if you're tired of ripping your bread or muffins to shreds trying to spread cold butter, then you need this butter bell. It's a game changer!

Perfect!
If you love butter, there's nothing worse than wanting to have some toast or just a slice of bread in the middle of the day, and the butter is cold and stiff. For this reason, I purchased this crock/bell, and now my problem is solved! This one fits a whole stick of butter. All you have to do is wait until it's 50% soft. If it is too soft, the butter might fall off the bell and into the water, and we don't want that. I use the back of a spoon to cut the stick into smaller pieces and press them into the bell against the bottom and sides. A small square of parchment paper to level the butter, and that's it. Here's a tip: don't fill the crock with water up to the water line — when I did that, after placing the bell in the crock, I had water all over my counter. I recommend filling it up to 2/3 below the water line. I also add some salt to the water to keep it fresh.Do NOT listen to those saying that the butter gets mold. You're supposed to change the water every other day (I change mine daily) to ensure the butter is fresh. There's no need to be lazy; changing it takes less than 30 seconds.

Does the job
Great for keeping butter at room temperature for ease of use and spreading. Beautiful ceramic finish to container. Keeps butter fresh because of the water stopping air from contacting product. Butter stays soft and clean up easy for reuse. Knife perfectly spreads butter evenly.

Great buy
If you are complaining about mold do your research! I wasn't sure how these worked but grew up in a family that just left butter out. Watched a lot of videos to see what people thought. Used salted butter and added a little salt to my filtered water in bottom. Been over a week now and no sign of mold. Bell itself is well made, cute, and convenient. Love that you can turn lid over and it sits on counter.

Never have hard butter again
This butter bell was a great purchase. We use Irish butter because the taste is so rich and this bell keeps it fresh and spreadable. It’s nice when the butter spreads evenly on your toast. It’s easy to use. Just soften the hard butter and add it to the top portion of the bell. A good tip is to cut the butter into small chunks and push the butter in with the back of a spoon and it will conform to the shape of the bell. Change the water in the bottom portion daily and keep it just below the black fill line.It takes up no space on the countertop and is cute.I’ve seen butter bells in local boutiques and high end kitchen stores at much higher prices.
