ALTRAMen's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX Hiking Shoe

A bit ugly but very comfortable. Love the light weight and wide toe box.

I tried these on along with 5 other “mid” style hiking boots. These were extremely comfortable and seemed high quality, however they looked like clown shoes. The toe box is extremely wide, almost comically so. The price is ridiculously high compared to the 5 other similar models I tried on, and the ankle support is not as good as a few of the others.

I wear a nine in women's but I didn't like any of the colors on offer for women in this shoe. Fit and comfort are great and held up well on a 10 mile hike (no packback) - no sore feet! I love the color and styling on these shoes and I think they look great on me. I highly recommend!

I had higher hopes at this price point. I have Altra Olympus 4s, low…I love them but I needed ankle support so I took the leap for these. First hike, was an AllTrails “hard” hike of about 10 miles. I figured they just needed to be broken in a little so I waited for another hike before reviewing. 2nd hike was wildly uncomfortable because the inner mid-section where the lace eyelet is located was just pushing on the top of my inner ankle bone with every step. I had to stop several times to adjust it, tying and retying, loosening, trying to move the tongue around to figure something out so I could keep going. What I ended up doing was skipping that eyelet as pictured so that it wouldnt press against my foot and that worked. But figuring that out and trying a bunch of things was a real pain. I have never had issues like that with any other hiking shoe.

I hike every other day, 5-10 miles in any weather and these boots have out performed all others. In the last 2 months I have been primarily in snow. So I have used gators and snowshoes. They have worked great. My feet have stayed dry and warm.My only concern is the sizing, they run small. Oder them one size to big and you will love them. I have attached a picture of about 5 months of hard use.

I thought this is a Wide fit. At the toe it’s comfortable but very tight in the middle of the shoe. Not the best fit for me

The media could not be loaded.  I typically prefer minimal shoes. However now I am hiking and running daily with 30 pounds of baby and backpack. My feet screaming for something more. This is it. Killer support that won’t make my feet sad. No issues so far. I will definitely change this review if my feelings change on them. Very good quality and craftsmanship.

By the time I got the boots I had requested a refund. This was more UPS's fault, but that factors into my experience and rating. I received the boots after I needed them and sent them back. Seemed to be of high quality though.

Diese Schuhe sind der Hammer Man läuft damit wie auf Wolke. Sehr angenehm weil die zähen viel Platz haben und somit die Reibung ausbleibt 👍🏻🤩

Ich nutze seit Jahren Altra Schuhe.Die Lone Peak 5 und 6 Modelle . Bin sehr zufrieden mit diesen Modellen (5*) .Für den Winter sollte nun ein weiterer Altra Schuh her. Die Lone Peaks sind mir zu wenig isoliertund zudem nicht Wasser- und Schneefest.Der Olympus 5 Hike Mid Gore Tex erschien mir eine gute Wahl.Die Bestellung lief problemlos.Nun. Der erste Eindruck:Wow.Ein Beast. Richtig klobig. Der Absatz sieht im realen Leben noch fetter aus.Meine Frau sprach von einem Huf! Design ist ja bekanntlich Geschmacksache.Der Olympus musste 1 Nummer größer als der Lone Peak 5 bestellt werden ( und der Lone Peak 6 eine halbe Nummer größer als der Lone Peak 5) .Der Test in der Wohnung startete sehr vielversprechend.Gefühlt wurde ich erst einmal 2 cm grösser.Und es stellte sich umgehend ein gutes Altra-typische Gehgefühl ein - nun mit Wolke-7 Faktor. Schwammigkeit war nicht zu spüren.Klasse!Leider stellte sich beim Test auch sehr schnell ein potentielles Problem dar.Die oberen äusseren Schnürhaken drücken sich so dermassen ins Bein,das der Schuh für mich so auf Dauer vermutlich nicht zu tragen wäre.Würde man auf schrägem Terrain wandern, würde sich der Druck wahrscheinlich noch erhöhen.Ein Vergleich mit meinen alten Leicht-Winterschuhen eines anderen Herstellers bestätigten diesenpotentiellen Schwachpunkt. Das kann man also ggfs. auch besser realisieren.Da ich den Schuh nicht ausgiebig (in der Natur) testen konnte, vergebe ich immer noch 3 Punkte.Würde sich das Problem in der Praxis bestätigen, gebe es nur einen Stern, da der Schuh für michnicht zu nutzen wäre.Bei dem Preis auf Risiko zu spielen, um den Schuh ausgiebiger in der Natur zu testen und ihn damit behalten zu müssen, kam nicht in Frage.Schade. Schuh ging jedenfalls umgehend zurück.
