Bartoline TX10 Paint and Varnish Stripper 500ml

I painted the tiles around the shower a taupe gloss. The colour wasn't much different than the original mock marble style. However, over time the paint became scratched and looked a mess. I bought two bottles of this but only needed one. I applied it with a soft bristle brush. I was surprised at how quickly the paint started to bubble up and come off (see video). It didn't take me a long time, but it did take more than an hour to remove it. I should have covered the bath to make clean up easier after. Because the paint turns all gloopy. I am quite sensitive to strong smells, but I was pleasantly surprised that this did not give off a strong smell. I only used one bottle. Its easy to use, and wipe off. My tiles were restored to how they looked originally. I would recommend this product.

Used this paint stripper to strip multiple layers of paint from the stairs. It does work quickly but i found will only remove one layer of gloss paint at a time. In my case there are about 5 layers to be removed so lots of patience and elbow grease required. Consistency is that of pva glue, did not dry out and i did not cover while waiting for it to work. I did lay it on thickly with a paint brush... Will probably need to use 5 bottles of the 500ml to complete the job. So Quite inexpensive. Another plus side is i found it did not hardly smell at all, somewhat of a slight sour smell but not a strong chemucal odour i expected. If you have the time and patience for the money you cant fault it.

So. Made the mistake of putting the wrong type of paint on wooden panels in the dining room. Went off and was like a thick black lacquer metal paint. Even my belt sander didn't touch it after it went off. In hindsight, it was for metal gates and posts, so a dark oil based black paint. Through me eggs in one basket after seeing the reviews on this stripper... and my god it works. It PROPERLY works. Applied a thickish coat over the top of the black paint, and left it for 1.5 hours. Literally, I could scrap it off like butter, the black rock hard set black oil based paint... that was on wood. I don't leave reviews, but this time, it's worth it. This product does what its says it does, and does it with ease.

I spent hours looking online for an affordable paint stripper that would remove around 4 layers of paint from a wooden bannister. I needed some on a budget so purchased this. Other paint strippers were too expensive. Some reviews said to apply a thick layer then for best results wrap it in cling film and leave it. I did this first and it didn’t work that well. It doesn’t say on the side of the bottle to cover with cling film so I tried again by following the instructions on the bottle and it worked so much better. The first coat probably lifted 2 layers which bubbled up and scraped off easily, the second coat took off the bottom 2 layers which again scraped off easily. I’m really happy with the product and I’ll be buying a bigger sized bottle to continue to take the rest of the paint off of the handrail and posts. All I’ve done so far is apply some then go out for a few hours then scrape it off and apply some more and get on with the rest of my day. Definitely would recommend if you’re someone with patience for a DIY job and are happy to do it progressively instead of expecting miracles on the spot!

As many folks will know who have been through the ordeal of having the outside of their house professionally painted... it is a blessing that it will not be required again for a good few years... The tradesmen were ok... but incredibly messy. The main painter guy was absolutely covered in pain, I don't know how he did it. It wasn't as though someone had taken a brush and painted him along with the house... but as if someone told him to stand still whilst they slowly dripped 2.5l of white paint all over him. Amazing really. As amusing as that was, it was the amount that fell on the ground, roof tiles, grass, plants, the bin, etc, etc... that bothered me more. Having been told several times to lay down sheets, they never appeared. He may have had paint in his ears. It was left to me (us) to remove the spots, of which there were thousands. We started by using a scraper, hot water, pan scrubber, or a combination of all three. It worked, but slow going. Eventually I decided to buy paint stripper, and did some research. The well known name(s) were not particularly liked, and expensive. I didn't want a really aggressive one, and the Bartoline TX10 seemed to fit the bill. It was reasonably priced. As suggested I was surprised how lacklustre reviews are of paint strippers in general, and to some extent I can now see why... The product was easy to apply, didn't smell particularly, and did the job... sort of. The paint spots were easier to get off, but there wasn't the near instant peeling I recall from my youth, whenever my father would break out the paint stripper for whatever reason. I put it down to regulation and the use of safer chemicals. I assume this is a net benefit, however it leads to average performance, especially as the paint was only a few days old in my case. On balance I do not regret making the purchase, it did quicken the job... but whilst I did not buy the most aggressive paint stripper available (there was not a stand-out performer per Amazon customer reviews), I did expect a but more hustle... which for me was sadly lacking. Three Stars, it might be worth three and a half, but definitely not four.

Tried this (TX10) and the Bartoline paint predator, and both were a complete waste of time and money. I put both the strippers up against a hot air gun, a small belt sander and an electric planer. The attached images show both the Bartoline strippers progress after 2 coats at 40 minute intervals with scraping after 30 mins of each coat. In between wasting my time with the Bartoline strippers, I had a little break and spent a few minutes on separate pieces of the veranda with the hot air gun, belt sander and planer, where I made considerable progress as can be seen in the attached images.

Firstly, it's necessary to familiarise with the product description and instruction of use for your own safety and satisfaction from the product. Product is emitting low odour, which is good for sensitive surroundings if working inside. It's slimy-gelly consistency helping to stay on vertical surfaces quite well. In low temperatures its performance can be low and may require longer time to start acting on painted surfaces, and it may be required to repeat it's application more than once. Applied layer must not be thin as it will dry quickly and/or will be absorbed by old paint and will become significantly less effective. Any surfaces covered by multiple layers of paint will require more repeats of its application for complete paint removal. It will work on variety of paint types with different level of performance. Some old paints will be completely dissolved whilst the others might be just softened enough for easy removal with, for example, spatula or similar tool. Do not expect lightning fast effects, it needs time to do it's job. Be aware that it may damage badly composite and plastic materials, including synthetic clothes. May cause discoloration of many materials. So far I have used it for paint removal from the floor wooden skirting, old wooden doors, and from metal flower stand. It did great job as well while cleaning some automotive parts as it removed stubborn dirt from the engine block and from the gearbox. Overall, I think that the size of bottle is wisely chosen for DIY jobs. And the results make it worth the money paid for. Yes, some types of paint may be difficult to remove. But it will work on most well.

I used it on some varnish and it worked ok. However, I don't think it would handle any proper established old paintwork. On a positive note, it doesn't burn you skin like the old Meth Chloride stuff did. Good for light tasks
