The first time when you drive a car with these boots on is...
It's easy to knock a shoe but hard to make one without flaws, so here's an honest review from a person that loves his steel toes.I wear steel toes all day everyday. Worn a few boots, but nothing would make a person ready to wear these boots for the first time. They do loosen up fast, however the initial response from the boot is quite shocking - if you drive a stick shift you'll be laughing so hard you have to be worried about a hernia. The first time when you drive a car with these boots on is one of those unforgettable moments. They are THAT unbelievably stiff. There's ZERO tactile response from not only the soles, but the tongue of the shoe has a hard plate that goes down to the steel toe, that makes it near impossible for any sort of articulation until the boot is broken in. Driving in this state is almost impossible because you can't feel anything the boot feels, and it's much worse when you have a 1inch clutch pedal, brake and small accelerator pedal in a 1 foot distance. It's a very strange feeling. But that seems to be just the beginning. It seems to be well designed except for the laces and lace hooks. which I'm really not impressed by. Trying to lace the spaghetti thin laces with hard to hook onto lace hooks up top. These have to go, my fingers feel like they are pulling apart some cheap phone cord apart.Thats the bad. And why it's not getting a 5 star. Here's why I think these are awesome boots:1. The feeling the foot has in the boot is simply amazing. The feeling is very similar to wearing a good pair of hockey skates, solid and very comfortable at the same time. From the initial moment the entire foot is comforted by the impenetrable walls of this boot. If the dead were to arise, and there were foot dragging zombies trying to chase me, these would be the boot I would choose. 1. They feel THAT safe. I would double dare a zom zom to gnaw through these boots. That's the A game in steel toe boots 101.2. They do seem to break in, and pretty fast. If you're like me, you want some articulation around the toe area, but should not flex too much where you can feel the steel toe cap. Against the Catapillar 2 Steel toes, Carhartt wins. The steel toe CAT 2 boots are great boots, if a job requires a person to run in their steel toes on occasion. I don't think any other steel toes have that capability, so I won't knock points off these boots. But I plan to take them on a 3 mile jog to break them in fully.3. They look good... And they are Carhartt boots... yo... It's hard to go wrong with black boots but these are one of the better looking boots. They are sharper at the tip than the regular blunt edge toe hammers. Not cowboy boots sharp, but sharper than most other steel toes I've worn over the years.4. Rubber heel section! I can't express how much I love that idea. The heel areas are reinforced with a inner heel plate and have a thick solid rubber outer shell. They won't crush or lose support when you're not laced up. And you can smash stuff with your heel when the occasion arises you have to. And there are times like that. For some lines of work, and for some people in that sort of line of work.5. The insoles are the best insoles that come from a steel toe boot. I have no intention to replace the insoles, they provide ample cushion, and support, which is unusual for knee breaker insoles regularly provided with boots. Clearly designed to impress, and I'm pretty impressed.Overall 5 star. These are well engineered Steel Toe boots. -1 star because of the laces, and the fact that they are slightly narrow, even with the E option. But I'm also a 3E square foot. We'll see once they break in, but It's a GREAT product, and I'm an extremely picky guy when it comes to foot comfort, and product quality, and this boot is excellent.

Excellent work boot
I have been trying to find a comfortable steel toe work boot and this boot is comfortable and the quality is superb. I bought the wide and the steel toe comes to the top of the foot and it is still comfortable. I highly recommend this boot. I usually wear a 9.5 but I bought a 10wide and the fit is superb.

Progress
10/06/12The first week in these boots, things are a little stiff as is to be expected with any real boot.11/28/12I haven't stopped getting compliments about the way they look. The steel-toe and waterproof claim certainly holds true. After the initial break-in, these boots are very comfortable. I do commercial HVAC/R service and I wear boots out pretty quickly. The cons about these boots include:-The wide treads often have me picking smaller gravel out of the soles.-The leather/polish on the toe has made marks on one type of carpet (boot covers).Overall this is a great boot and I would recommend them. I would buy these again and probably will. I haven't ever bought the same boots twice.10/23/13*UpdateAfter over a year in these boots, they are still at least water-resistant. If I have to work in a puddle, I do end up getting wet but not immediately. The soles on each boot squeak with every step which I think is annoying. The insides of the boots are holding up well and they are still comfortable. The big fancy plastic/rubber heel has started to tear away from the "leather" near the top/rear of the boot. The top of the sole, where it is sewn on to the boot, has begun to crack in multiple places where you would flex your foot when you take a step, which could be part of the loss of water-proofness. I understand that these boots are able to be resoled so I may go that route and update this log again after that.I still have no regrets about this purchase.
