Easy to install; easy to use; but ...
This bike rack was relatively easy to put together. It feels fairly sturdy, although with only one base arm on the top of the trunk (tripod stability), I did notice with my first use that the rack did shift slightly when driving extensive distances. For some reason, the clasp part of the anchor straps on one side of the rack were practically inside the frame; and on the other side, they were about 4"-6" away from the frame, which made it much easier to adjust the straps on one side of the rack versus the other. Main complaint about this rack: as it is designed to have the lower arms sit on the bumper, not the back wall of the trunk lid, it makes it a challenge to open the trunk, because you must line everything up just-so in order to close the trunk. I used it for long-distance bike hauling, which meant when I wanted to get something out of the trunk, I had to readjust the rack every time I needed to open the trunk, making sure the feet lined up so they would not get in the way of closing the trunk, and that all the straps were still in place. As I was on the road for four days, and did not want to leave my bike unattended on my car overnight (despite security strap into trunk), I had to open my trunk each night to put the security strap anchor back inside the trunk, so this was not something to not fret about. (Also, historically, I have simply left my bike rack on my car for long periods of time, and this trunk open/close issue means I'll only keep the rack on the car when I actually need it.) On this rack, as with previous bike racks I've owned, I do wish there was a bit of rubber on the clasps to help make the straps feel more secure once everything is tightened up. Minor complaint. Ease of use once assembled/in place: feel like it is pretty easy to get bikes onto this rack. Second bike was a little bit of a challenge to get it on, but I think that was more due to how the frames of the two bikes aligned more than a flaw of the rack design. I do wish the strap on the lower part of the rack, meant to secure the vertical bar of the bike frame, was perhaps two inches longer. There are holes at the end of the straps that you can loop a lock through (or a thin cable wire lock). They're more theft-deterrent than theft-preventative, as they're plastic, so a determined bike thief could cut through them, I think. Overall, compared to my previous rack, I like this one quite a bit. Feels sturdy. Straps drive me a bit nuts, but honestly, I have yet to have a bike rack where the straps aren't aggravating in one form or another. Easy to remove rack from car.

This Bones 2 rack is very nice - especially for the price
I purchased this to carry road bikes. This is a very high quality product that is worth the price. For practice I just mounted this rack on my 2013 Hyundai Genesis and then on my Cadillac CTS 4. Neither of these vehicles are allowed to get a scratch. That was the main requirement. The rack definitely passes the no-scratch test for the three pads that touch your trunk and bumper. You could probably drive a few hundred miles without any abrasion under the three main pads. I will probably put a decent coat of wax under the pads anyway. The straps are a very sturdy design. There is plenty of extra strap. They are easy to latch down and loosen. I think they will survive a long trip if they are strapped according to the instructions. The buckles are metal, which is a good idea. The rungs that hold the bike are well designed. They are easy to use once you get used to how they work. The anti-sway rung is a very nice touch. Many other racks make you deal with keeping the bike from swaying. I want to share a mistake that I made during my first installation that you should try to avoid. On my first install, I put the top pad as far back on the trunk lid as I could. It was near where the trunk lid meets the back window of the car. This configuration allows the inner bike's inner pedal to strike the back trunk lid, and also allows the strap buckles to strike the surface of the lid. The solution is to move the top pad toward the back of the car a few inches (away from the back window). Just rotate the top spar downward until the spars that hold the bike are further from the car. It is that simple. The first time you install this rack, it might take you 20 minutes. The second time you install it will take 5 minutes. Once you figure it out, the rack is very easy to install. Taking it off the trunk takes a minute or two. As is probably true for most racks, it is our responsibility to keep the front wheel from turning and flopping in the wind. I would love it if racks had some way we could lock the front wheel down. It would be a nice touch if these racks came with the Saris straps to take care of that (they have them). For now, I am going to use a bungee cord to keep the front wheel still.

Fits my Nissan Rogue perfectly
I purchase this product in order to put my new fathom29er on my Nissan Rogue. I really like that the top straps are nice and tight. The bottom legs rest on the rear bumper and there are a few different ways to adjust the legs, so the bike can be really close to the car or just a bit off it. The quality is good. Very sturdy materials, but what I do not like is that the straps do not have a way to secure them. I have had to come up with different knots and ideas to not have them hanging and flapping around. One of those things is that I am using the really long hanging straps to tie around the tires, so the bike does not move around. This is a positive, but it do not always work the way my brain things it will. The bike supports, do not really fit perfectly with the new mountain bikes, since the horizontal bars are not straight. I am making it work and I am playing around with how to place the supports and straps. Conclusion: This was a good purchase and we are very happy with it. It does the job, it feels secure and I do not fear my new bike is going to fall off.

Does a great job of keeping my bike latched in!!
Feb 17th, 2016 - Update So I've had this guy for about 1.5yrs now. One time, I forgot to take it off the trunk of my car and went into a carwash at the gas station and one of the arms broke off... My car jerked and I initially didn't know what happened and found out after I got home. I called up Saris to see if I can buy just the arm since everything else was still in tact. I didn't want to have to spend another $140 for the whole thing, when just one arm was broken. And Saris, as awesome as they are, I was able to get just the arm for $35-40. Maybe it was cheaper... I forget the actual cost... But having it for so long, I do see more scratches on the top of my trunk, but what do you really expect for a bike rack that goes on your trunk... there's going to be some consequence. My next car, I do plan to get a rooftop rack, but still, if you have a sedan or don't want to spend $400-500 on a roofrack, just get this guy. It may scratch up your car a tiny bit, but it's compatible to most cars and super convenient. Just ask yourself, which one's more important? Your bike? or your car? If you're like me and say, your bike, just get this guy. I have an old car so I didn't really car about tiny scratches. _______________________________________________________________________________________ June 2nd, 2014 I've had this for over a month now and have been using it maybe 1-2x a week, but so far so good!! I only have one roadbike (GT Attack 2.0) and it fits nicely. Been on the freeway, driving approx. 80 mph and no problems there. 2 things I would have liked to be different. 1. So as many of you are familiar, on most bikes, there are 2 locations where you can place your water bottle holder - 1 being diagonal and the other right under your saddle standing upright. For the upright location, I actually have my portable air pump docked in. I always have to take that off every time I place it on my bike rack. 2. My front tire wobbles back and forth and bangs on the back of my car every once in a while. Would've been nice to have some sort of system that could keep the front tire stable. Maybe I'll think of a workaround to try to stabilize my front wheel...

This fool promises it's foolproof
I am a grade-A dolt when it comes to assembling or using mechanical objects. Yeah, thatโs me over there, looking perplexedly at the tiny, language-free instructions printed at some plant in China. Yeah, thatโs me looking back and forth from the diagram to the assembly objects and wondering why they donโt look like each other. Yeah, thatโs me damaging my new purchase because I assembled it wrong. Yeah, thatโs me posting some screed on Facebook about why nothing comes with decent instructions anymore. To make matters worse here Iโm not really an experienced bicyclist โ in fact I had never before transported bikes by rack before buying this. I got this because I was tired of bicycling with my daughter on the same old streets in our neighborhood, and I wanted to get away to somewhere we wouldnโt have to cross traffic every few pedals. So basically, if there was a way to mess up the installation of this bike rack I would have found it. And then I would have posted a critical review about it. But this thing was foolproof enough that even I was able to do it. And when I say foolproof, I do mean foolproof, because I am a top-of-the-line fool. Basically the rack consists of three legs that mount against the bumper and the trunk of the car; theyโre quite easy to adjust and to lock in place. Then you have little clips that respectively get attached to the top, side and bottom of your trunk. Finally there are three connection points for strapping each bicycle into place. I was able to get the rack mostly into place without difficulties. On the test run I found that Iโd not pulled the side straps tight enough and so the rack was bouncing around too much. But I was able to fix that and our subsequent transporting seems to have gone quite easily with the rack staying firmly in place. Of all the design elements of this rack Iโd give the highest marks to the straps for fastening the bicycles โ very well designed and easy to manipulate and keep the bikes secure. Of course I still managed to do things imperfectly at first, not positioning the second bike in the optimal way on the first run (had a little trouble with the curved bar of the girlโs bike). But I figured that out by the second run. The most challenging (relatively speaking) element of the rack is the set of clips for attaching to the sides of the trunk. It takes a little work to make sure those straps are tight enough. And the clips take a little dexterity to get in and out of the slots. Now, this was where my natural incompetence truly came into play โ after taking the rack off I belatedly noticed that the clips are clearly marked โTOP,โ โSIDE,โ and โBOTTOM.โ And of course Iโd reversed the side and top clips. No wonder it was hard to get those side clips out โ they were actually the top clips, made to attach to another place entirely! Iโll get that right next time. Anyway, well-designed, foolproof, easy to transport and store. Very easy to detach, fold up and store in oneโs trunk. Quite happy with this!

Excellent Bike Rack and Customer Service
I bought the bones two bike trunk rack for my 2025 Caddy CT4. Fit like a glove, solid on the trunk, good quality plastic, quality straps, and never worry about my bike falling off. Had a problem with one strap not wanting to let go. Contacted customer service and within a week I had a new arm delivered. The strap cannot be changed out because is is sealed at the factory. Excellent customer service. Highly recommended.

Saris Bones 3-Bike Trunk Rack - Perfect for my needs
So I bought this rack a few months ago. After doing plenty of research on the various rack options for my Jetta Sportwagen,(roof racks, hitch racks, trunk racks) I ended up with the Saris. I went with the 3 bike as opposed to the 2-bike for no reason whatsoever, except I knew there might be a day where putting 3 bikes on would be nice. It has 2 upper and 2 lower bracing points, as opposed to 2 lower and only 1 upper joint for the 2-bike setup. So far, I have only used this for my road bikes. Multiple trips (~30 miles or so) with just one road bike. It has worked flawlessly. Took me about 15 minutes to initially set it up on my wagon. The great thing about the Saris is the flexibility of the design. I have it mounted so that I can still open up the hatch when it is attached. That is a big plus for me, as I haul stuff around quite a bit and need access to my cargo area. This past weekend I put the Saris to the test. 3 road bikes, 600 miles of high speed (75+ mph) highway driving, bad roads, and gusting winds. Putting the Bones on the car once it is adjusted correctly is a breeze. 3-5 minutes at most. I tie a few of the longer straps together in a bow to keep them from whipping around during the drive. Three bikes was no problem for the Saris. With a bike on the last mount (farthest from the bracing) I did notice the arms flex slightly in the wind with the weight of the bikes. This is going to happen with any plastic material like the arms are constructed with. But it was slight enough that I never worried about my expensive frames crashing to the road into a billion pieces. So many parts would have to fail simultaneously for anything to ever happen to the rack. I would recommend this rack to anyone who needs a small, lightweight, and removable bike rack. The price is a little higher than other racks, but it is worlds better. You get what you pay for.

MAJOR DISASTER WITH THIS RACK - THE PLASTIC TORE APART AND BIKE HIT THE ROAD
Two weeks after writing the below review, I was driving with my bike on the Saris Bones rack. I went over a bump at under 20 mph and I saw the bike jump up and then fall down. I pulled over to inspect what had happened. One of the three plastic straps had popped off of the plastic groove into which it had been welded. Unfortunately, my bike wheel then hit the road and is damaged. I am calling Saris tomorrow since this is supposed to have a "lifetime guarantee." I was really shaken by this event and will probably not want a replacement but my money back and price to repair bike and I'll buy something more substantial. BTW, all straps and buckles to the car were still tightly in position so it was not the fault of the straps or buckles but of the plastic that holds the plastic that goes around the bike frame. I WROTE THIS 2 WEEKS AGO: I've now had this for 3 months and have a sense of its pros and cons. Pros: basic & simple; light weight; good price; sturdy construction; easy assembly only if you watch a video of it; no damage to car from it; holds bike securely though I still add a long strap to keep front wheel and frame stable to the carrier. Cons: cannot lift hatchback with rack in place with or without the bike on it - to do this you really need a hitch-type carrier; neither the carrier nor the carrier with the bike on it can be locked in place - fortunately I live in an area where theft is rare.

Perfect, you will need the beams though!
I drive an rx450h Lexus and a c class Mercedes, so needed something that i could use easily. Due to the "lexus" I had to get something that was going to fit it! No way I was paying the HUGE bill to get roof or tow bar styles. My "bones" arrived today and was installed in a few minutes.... yes that fast! Then my woe began, sigh, mountain bikes with strange frames are not going to fit easily and OFC both of the ones i was fitting were indeed oddly shaped. I began to mutter in disdain and struggled to get 2 bikes on it. MMMM new plan, order the 2 beams for 50 pounds more and sweat a whole lot less. Safe in the knowledge that this will last for ever, it is a design master piece but your gonna need dem bars ^^... Still beats paying the huge cost for my car and still fits the wifes. Brilliant buy but Amazon needs the beams at 25 each.... So if you know your bike isn't standard then this will cost around 160 pounds for 2 bikes or 195 for the 3. Did i mention it looks good or as good as a rack gets.

It fits Nissan Qashqai & it works!
Never having used any product like this before, I was a bit apprehensive and wasn't sure it if was going to fit my car or if it will work. As suggested by another reviewer, I chose to watch a video instead of following the 2 page instructions, which was a good call I think. Wasn't too difficult to set it up, having 2 people helped as one person was able to hold the rack in place while the other put on the clips to various places on the car & tighten the belts. Took about 10 mins to set it up and we were ready to go. We needed to use only one bike for now, which fitted quite well. I had separately ordered a couple of straps to keep the front wheel steady, which came in handy. We drove from Birmingham to Cambridge on combination of motorway & A roads, and had no issues. By the end of the trip, we did notice the rack had gotten a bit wonky, most probably because I didn't tighten one side of the belt properly. Or perhaps the clip could have moved a little, loosening the belt a little. Overall, quite happy with it. Now the issue is where to store it, as it's not small :). Need to find a place in the shed.

Best Purchase Ever
This is one of my best purchase ever, the portability and the ability to interchange this from car to car is awesome. I use the bike rack system to use for my road bike out in the countryside. This bike rack does not interfere with my driving and holds my bike nicely. The bikes are secured and mounted without rubbing from each other. This guide allows the bikes to be mounted individually. I highly recommend this product.
