This jar is perfect for those new to creating a sourdough starter (that’s me 🤣) Everything, from the time band, the thermometer, to the skinny spatula and silicone cover, all make it less intimidating for someone just starting out! I am in the Northeast, where it is freezing and very dry right now, so I have been putting my starter inside the oven with the light on at night, when we keep our house cooler. The thermometer allowed me to see that putting the jar right next to the oven light with the oven door closed was a bit too warm, but moving the jar to the opposite side of the oven away from the light, puts it at a perfect 75-79F range. The silicone cover was the key to my starter not crusting over and preventing growth - I had reached out to Meni (CEO) and asked how to resolve the dry layer on top because it’s been so cold here, he suggested putting the silicone cover on top and it was exactly what it needed.Oh, and let’s talk about customer service…. Meni personally answered every single question I sent to him, and helped me to have a very successful first bake (yesterday) with a very young starter (12 days old at time of making bread). Between emails back and forth, and the extremely helpful walkthrough videos available (I am a ‘need to see it’ kind of person), this newbie was able to bake sourdough 🤣I need to mention the quality of the packaging as well (for all of these products). I understand that it is not important to everyone, but I feel if a company takes time and effort (and $$$) to present their products in a nice way, it speaks volumes. The packaging is very high quality and esthetically pleasing, and it is clear that a lot of attention goes toward presentation. I love this starter kit. It comes with a linen cover for when your starter is on the counter and the silicone base can be used as the lid when you store it in the fridge. It includes basic instructions, 1 glass 34 ounce jar, a thermometer, a rubber spatula, and a feeding schedule band.The jar is easy to read and tells you the empty jar weight so you can easily figure out how much starter weighs and how much to feed it based on the ratio you are using. It's easy to clean and I think it's durable enough it wouldn't break easily if dropped.The rubber spatula is easy to clean and has no lingering odors like cheap plastic ones but it does not swipe the sides of jar as clean as my other rubber spatulas do and it's difficult to stir with if you have arthritis/carpal tunnel. I use a wooden spoon to stir and then use the spatula to scrape the sides.The feeding schedule band has the days of the week and markings to tell you the time. I wish mine had smaller lines for more hours because it's marked for 6 am, 12 pm, and 6 pm.
