Works fine with ESP32
Using this with an ESP32 over UART for location tracking. Works very well for prototyping!

Original waveshare product
It is an original board from waveshare. Worked in first attempt. I have used this with raspberry pi zero w. I found documentation and sample code in python from waveshare product wiki site with AT command manual in PDF .Some points to be noted when working with this. This is a power hungry chip. Not the board issue but the chip required good amount of power to search network operations, so consider a good rating 5V 2 amp supply. I started with 5V 1 amp, but it does not work.I tried with Raspberry Pi UPS BOARD rated with 2.5 amp, but no, it did not worked. So I think it needs an active power supply.Another thing, mounting screws provided with the kit. The screw head and nuts are very small. I find difficulties to attached with the Raspberry Pi as Pi and board holes are just to fit the heads.Needs some bigger screws.Over all it is awesome.

Outdated device
Comes with GPS antenna and USB cable, but no battery for the board. FYIs: requires constant 2A power supply or will turn itself off over and over again, also doesn't work with 3/4G networks, only 2G, which my phone doesn't support so not luck sending SMS with this. For those new to GSM/GPRS/GNSS, there's plenty of instructional info available from both Waveshare's site and Github. Still, useful GPS and clock features which is why I gave it 3 stars. Cool little HAT for beginners looking to explore raspberry pi expanded functionality, but if looking for phone functions, you'll need a more modern board.

A perfect device for IoT solutions.
Versatile and well documented, refer to the waveshare site. Said to be power hungry, so keep an eye on possible undervoltage issues, but I never ran into this.RPi hat note: it uses the builtin serial to communicate with the system, no USB needed.

Good quality board!
it comes in a nice package including all necessary parts (gsm & gps antennas, usb cable). Everything is made with good quality materials. The board requires 2A current otherwise it will keep restarting! I had some doubts, and I must say that I am impressed with the support I received from this vendor! They respond very fast and provide you all information you need. You can also find detailed information about the board, drivers and example code on their website. I would definitely recommend their products!
