No frills powerful cleaning (and anti-rash) soap
After encountering coal tar soap for the first time in "How to be a Victorian" by Ruth Goodman, I decided to try it out for myself, as she noted that companies were still making it, or at least reasonable copies of it. Coincidentally, when I first tried this stuff last summer, I was also dealing with some rash issues, and let me tell you, it took care of the problem noticeably even with the first shower. I also felt incredibly clean, and highly recommend it for people getting dirty out in the garden, after working on the car, or a typical day on a construction site. On that note, it is not exactly the most moisturizing of soaps, and when the crisper temperatures hit in late November, I changed hats back to more moisturizing options. Now that the warmer times are back upon us, however, I came back to this ancestral soap, and I have no regrets about my decision. The bars are slightly smaller than an average bar of Irish Spring. As Ruth notes in her book, the smell is not for everyone, a slight "hospital" anti-septic smell to it, but after you rinse off, you smell like you! This soap comes in minimal packaging and is made in Canada just outside of Toronto.

Light scent. Gentle on sensitive skin. Gray-ish lather, but it's worth it for me.
I originally purchased this for my son because he has had eczema since he was a baby, and I read that Coal Tar soap helps with it. He uses shampoo with coal tar in it and this stuff. It definitely helps him more than the overpriced eczema soaps they sell in the grocery stores. One day I started using it because I ran out of my own soap. I liked it and kept using it. A side effect I had was that my body acne was severely reduced to nothing. I have no idea why, but that's what it has done for us. I am a person that despises strong smells of any kind, even strong natural smells. This bar has a clean subtle smell to it it, I love it. Cons: it has a gray lather, but it washes off my washcloth clear for the most part. I don't mind it at all. If you use this you will have to clean your bathtub/shower regularly. Just as you normally would, because sometimes I go a while without cleaning it and there is black residue left on the floor of the shower. It comes off fine just like any soap scum, but since it's dark it can put off some people. Just a tip. So if you have sensitive skin that's itchy, or you have a little body acne like me, this can probably help!

Seems to be an effective product for psoriasis
This soap seems to do better than other products I ordered to deal with the case of psoriasis I have. It has a pleasant scent and lathers well also. Furthermore, it is relatively inexpensive! I didn't give it 5 stars because I have only gone through about half the first bar and have not gotten a chance to be sure of its effectiveness. But I am trying a half dozen products and I feel better after using this soap than all the other products except one which seems equally effective.

Great soap similar to pine tar soaps
My new favorite soap! I love the line tar soaps but not the cost. These are very similar at a much better price. My only recommendation for the manufacturer would be not to put the label directly on the soap (will stick to the soap at times and needs to be removed when soap is dry) or use a label that pulls off the soap with no residue left behind. This is a minor issue amd forgotten when showering w this great soap.

Seams like a decent soap, but question coal tar content.
Seems like a decent soap. Lathers well. Rinses well. Cleans. Soothing. Not all perfumed up like so many soaps. However, I question the coal tar content. There really is no coal tar scent at all. I’ve used coal tar soaps in the past and they always have a distinct scent, somewhat sulfury. If it works, okay. But I think stating what percentage of the product is coal tar would be helpful in the listing. I’ll be looking elsewhere for a different product for now.

Happy
I don’t know if coal tar is effective as a soap or not. I cant tell a huge difference but if I’m going to use a soap anyway- I might as well treat my psoriasis while I'm at it. It’s actually surprisingly hydrating and doesnt dry my skin out- so that in itself is a plus for soap

Love this brand
Love everything by this brand. This one is a little drying as mentioned in other reviews but it works great for skin issues. I use it for my scalp face and body. I also use their emu oil bar to help counteract the drying effects of the coal tar. Highly recommend.
