Loved it, felt ripped off
.Excellent product. Sadly the company has gone out of business. I was appalled that I was charged three times as much from my previous order. Shame on you Amazon for taking advantage of your loyal customers

not your Hershey'e Cocoa
I usually buy Ghiradelli and it's good but oh my! America's Test Kitchen ranked this above several others including Ghiradelli so I thought I'd try it for the brownies I was making for my son's birthday dinner. Immediately upon opening the package I could see and smell the difference. When I was mixing the brownie batter I knew they'd be amazing, the batter was almost black. I was using a vegan recipe and they were still rich and decadent, fudgy and so chocolatey. ATK was right, this is far superior to any other cocoa I've used. It is a little pricey at over $8 a box but it is well worth it. I would have attached a picture but they're all gone.

Best Cocoa, Been Using It For Years
This makes the best hot cocoa. Been buying this brand for years. I use one level tablespoon per 10 oz. of milk. I fill the mug 1/2 full, dump the cocoa in mug (don't mix), microwave for 55 seconds. Then wisk the cocoa. Add the other half and put in microwave for 1 minute. Whisk. And voila hot cocoa. Add a few mini marshmallows and whipped cream. YUM!!! And not all the additives of instant cocoa and cheaper.

No longer available?
The best cocoa powder ever. Rich and smooth, dissolves well. I am sorry it doesn't appear to be sold on Amazon any more.

Chocolately chocolate
I've bought this cocoa for about 5 years. It has a good chocolate flavor. It has a fine texture. In order to economize, because it is expensive I usually use half Droste cocoa and half Hershey cocoa in my recipes. That's the best of both worlds as each cocoa has it's strength. Try this hot chocolate recipe: In small saucepan add 1 cup milk, 1 and 1/2 tbsp of sugar, 1/2 tbsp of Droste cocoa, 1/2 tbsp Hershey cocoa and a tiny tiny bit of salt. Stir as your heating. Heat just to drinking temperature - don't boil. Top with whip cream if you want. If you happen to have heavy cream on hand substitute part of the milk with the cream - that's really good! Final word: I do like Droste cocoa - try it.

Best replacement for Peet's cocoa in coffee
I buy cocoa to put in my coffee. I was a fan of the Peet's cocoa, which I can't seem to find anymore. This is very similar, and may actually be the same. I can;t be sure, but Peet's can says their cocoa was shipped from Holland, and this is also made in Holland, and has a very similar appearance, flavor, and nutritional labeling. At any rate, for coffee, it seems best to have Dutch process cocoa, which is less acidic than natural process cocoa (like Hershey's). If you do buy dutch process cocoa to put in a brownie recipe that calls for natural process cocoa, remember you will need to use baking powder instead of baking soda, using twice the amount called for, to make up for the lack of acidity. While this is the closest I have found as a Peet's cocoa alternative, I have also tried the Guittard Cocoa Rouge and Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa, which are also quite good, each having a unique flavor different from the Droste. I look forward to trying the Valrhona next. I did knock one star off because the price on this item seems a bit high compared to what it might be in a store, if I could find it in a store. I did receive the item in the box as pictured. It says 'Cacao' on one side and 'Cocoa' on the other. The liner bag is in there, and attached in a clever way to the folding box top to help prevent spills. Another person got a knock off in a box with no liner, so probably safest to stick with a high rated seller. In my research into cocoa, I founf an excellent article at King Arthur Flour's site, called the A-B-C's of cocoa. I think if I put a link here it will get stripped out, but a quick Google search will turn it up.

Tried a lot of coco powders, this is the best.
For Christmas, we had a lot of family over; because we planned on spending a lot of time outdoors at night, we thought serving hot coco would be fun, and it was; people enjoyed it a lot. But that started us on a quest to find the best cocoa. We tested about 8 different kinds and in the end, the clear favorite is Droste. It is reasonably price, it is Dutch processed cocoa, it mixes better with milk than any other brand we tried, it does not come pre-mixed with sugar allowing you to develop the sweetness profile you like best, and it has one of the best flavors. Enjoy!
